Top 20 K-Pop Songs of 2019

Red Velvet

As with 2017 and 2018’s lists, this is just my personal twenty favourite K-Pop songs from 2019 (as it’s so late I’m only doing 20 this year!). As with the previous years a group will only be mentioned on here once but soloists and sub-units can be mentioned even if the group has already been on here. Here goes nothing!

20. Rocket Punch – Bim Bam Bum

Rocket Punch Bim Bam Bum gif

Rocket Punch had their debut in 2019 with this song and I loved it from first listen. It’s not my favourite song ever but it was a solid debut and I’m looking forward to seeing what else Rocket Punch release in the future. Good luck to them!

19. G-Friend – Sunrise

G-Friend Sunrise gif

Whilst I still love G-Friend I wasn’t feeling their releases last year as much as I have in previous years. ‘Fever’ really isn’t my bop although I did like ‘Sunrise’ – it’s just not as iconic as previous years like when they released ‘Rough’, ‘Fingertip’ or ‘Memoria’. I still love the group and will be keeping an eye out for their 2020 releases because I’m sure they’ll continue to have good comebacks.

18. Oh My Girl – Bungee

Oh My Girl Bungee gif

I mentioned in 2018’s post that I hadn’t been too keen on ‘Oh My Girl’s releases. They just really weren’t my cup of tea and I found them a bit boring. I much preferred ‘Bungee’ because it was much more lively and a really fun song. It’s not their best song but it’s still a lot of fun and it’s really cute!

17. Itzy – Dalla Dalla

Itzy Dalla Dalla gif

Another girl group debut that was pretty good – it didn’t blow my socks off or anything but Itzy did have a solid debut and I also enjoyed their comeback with ‘Icy’. I don’t think Itzy will ever be my favourite group but I enjoy their songs and their concept so far so you never know. I’m looking forward to seeing what they release in 2020!

16. Chungha – Snapping

Chungha Snapping gif

When it was announced Chungha was going solo I was really excited – she’d been my IOI bias and I was looking forward to seeing what kind of songs she released. Unfortunately I wasn’t fond of her debut and I found that I didn’t love her early comebacks. I still loved her but I wasn’t really vibing with her music. I’m pretty sure I heard ‘Snapping’ at a K-Pop Night in Birmingham so decided to check it out and suddenly I had this song on repeat and couldn’t stop listening to it. I’ll be looking forward to more Chungha releases in the future!

15. Dreamcatcher – Piri

Dreamcatcher Piri gif

I love this song but I have a feeling I’ve listened to it one too many times – otherwise I think it would’ve been further up the list. But objectively it is still a good song and I wish I could’ve seen Dreamcatcher live last year but unfortunately their show was on a week day and I really didn’t want to take two days off work to go and see them again. More weekend concerts in the future please!

14. SuperM – Jopping

SuperM Jopping gif

I won’t lie to you, I wasn’t thrilled at the thought of ‘SuperM’. I think as a one-off collaboration I’d have been more down but a permanent group as a mix of members from already established groups just seemed like a really weird idea? I’m not a massive boy group stan (except for BTS really) so although I liked all the groups individually I wasn’t too hyped to give this song a listen but everyone on Twitter was talking about it so I put it on and actually really liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Still not sold on the idea of ‘SuperM’ but I have to admit, ‘Jopping’ was a good song.

13. Cherry Bullet – Q&A

Cherry Bullet Q&A gif

Yet another girl group debut that I loved – it seemed like a lot of groups debuted last year, I swear we’re getting more and more every year. I love the gaming concept Cherry Bullet have so was excited to listen to their debut and they didn’t disappoint. I did like their comeback with ‘Really Really’ but I don’t think it was as good as ‘Q&A’. This is another girl group I’ll be looking out for in 2020!

12. AleXa – Bomb

AleXa Bomb gif

This came up on my YouTube recommendations and I quickly discovered this was AleXa’s debut song and for the first verse I wasn’t 100% sure on the song but by the time the chorus hit I was sold. It’s super catchy, the choreography is incredible and AleXa is just clearly super talented. I’m looking forward to seeing what she does in 2020!

11. Nature – Oopsie (My Bad)

Nature Oopsie My Bad gif

I gave Nature a listen in 2018 and liked their song ‘Some (You’ll Be Mine)’ – it wasn’t incredible and not a song I had on repeat or anything but it was a decent song and made my list last year. Then last year Nature came back with ‘Oopsie (My Bad)’ and I actually loved this song upon first listen. So catchy and fun! I’ve said this with most of the songs I’ve chosen but I’m looking forward to seeing what else Nature comeback with.

10. Hwasa – TWIT

Hwasa Twit gif

Although I wasn’t massively keen on most of Mamamoo’s most recent comebacks I’ve still been keeping an eye out because like you never know. Then suddenly Hwasa released a solo song – I think all the members of Mamamoo are insanely talented so I’d always check out any solo songs the girls decided to release which is how I heard Hwasa’s ‘TWIT’ and instantly loved it. The girl can do pretty much everything – sing, dance, rap and she definitely showcased her talents in this song. I hope she gets more solos in the future!

9. MOMOLAND – I’m So Hot

MOMOLAND I'm So Hot gif

Last year wasn’t the best year for the group as two of the members have officially left with another pending a final decision. Two of the members didn’t participate for this comeback earlier last year but the song was still really good and one that I loved instantly from first listen. I’m proud of how far MOMOLAND have come over the past year but I hope the fact they’ve lost a couple of members and only had one comeback last year doesn’t affect them too much.

8. TWICE – Feel Special

TWICE Feel Special gif

To tell you the truth I wasn’t too fussed about this song or ‘Fancy’ when they were first released but for some reason in November I went through a TWICE phase and only wanted to listen to their songs. Whilst ‘Fancy’ is a good song I definitely ended up preferring ‘Feel Special’ for some reason. I’m not even particularly sure why because it’s not my usual type of song but TWICE smashed it and I absolutely love it – not as much as some of their comebacks from previous years but it’s still a great song!

7. Red Velvet – Zimzalabim

Red Velvet Zimzalabim gif

You know what, I don’t care what people have to say about this song – it was one of my favourite comebacks last year! Yes, it was a bit all over the place but plenty of good songs are – look at Girls’ Generation’s ‘I Got a Boy’. A bit of a mess upon first listen but once you get used to it it’s a lot of fun and really catchy. If you didn’t like it then fair enough but I really did!

6. BTS – Dionysus

BTS Dionysus gif

To tell you the truth I wasn’t the biggest fan of ‘Boy With Luv’ – it’s a good song but it definitely would have been lower down on this list but I absolutely loved ‘Dionysus’ which was the song they opened with at both the Wembley concerts. It was a good song to get everyone lit and it makes me happy whenever I listen to it. I’m sure BTS will have another amazing year in 2020 and I’m looking forward to it! Here’s hoping they come back to the UK.

5. Somi – Birthday

Somi Birthday gif

I hadn’t realised Somi was having a solo debut until my friend Jess asked if I’d listened to ‘Birthday’. I heard it briefly at K-Pop Night in Birmingham, came home, listened to it and suddenly I was hooked. I’m surprised that many people are saying Somi can’t sing – the song didn’t have the largest vocal range and was presumably supposed to be a fun debut rather than show off what her voice can do. And a lot of people are saying she can’t handle being solo but I think it was a really good debut like I genuinely don’t understand? I’m sure Somi has a good career ahead of her.

4. Black Pink – Kill This Love

Black Pink Kill This Love gif

Black Pink absolutely smashed their comeback last year, this song will probably go down as one of those iconic K-Pop songs and honestly it deserves it. Although I like the majority of Black Pink songs this was the first one that I immediately loved upon first hearing it. It was instantly on repeat and is definitely my favourite Black Pink song to date.

3. Mamamoo – Hip

Mamamoo Hip gif

When I first listened to this song I was like ‘it’s okay’ but upon the second listen I was suddenly hooked. I’m pretty sure I had this song on repeat for two days and still didn’t tire of it but forced myself to listen to different songs so that I wouldn’t suddenly hate this one. Again, this is probably my favourite Mamamoo song released yet and I loved pretty much everything about it. The girls also looked incredible for this comeback, I loved Solar’s pink and black hair (although I’m pretty sure it was a wig but she should go for that look in the future). It feels nice to love Mamamoo’s songs again because I’ve always loved the members!

2. CLC – Me

CLC Me gif

Let’s be real, CLC slayed the game last year. I had trouble narrowing it down between ‘No’, ‘Me’ and ‘Devil’ but in the end settled on ‘Me’ because it’s definitely my favourite comeback last year. However, congratulations to CLC for finally receiving their long-deserved first win with ‘No’! I’m so proud of them for finally achieving this goal and ‘No’ was definitely an award-worthy song. I loved every comeback they had last year so much, CLC just keep providing solid comeback after comeback ever since they released ‘Black Dress’. I bet their songs will be just as amazing in 2020!

1. Weki Meki – Picky Picky

Weki Meki Picky Picky gif

Although I’d enjoyed ‘I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend’ I hadn’t LOVED it and it’s not a song I can listen to on repeat. Then after that I wasn’t overly fond of Weki Meki’s comebacks but then I saw a meme on Twitter of someone saying ‘Why don’t you have a boyfriend?’ and someone responded with the ‘I’m so picky, picky, picky’ part from this song. It intrigued me so I listened to the full song and as with some of the songs on this list I was hooked from that first listen. I’m not sure what’s made it my number one song for this year, maybe because I’ve listened to it over and over again and it still hypes me up as much as it did the first time I listened to it. I requested this song at K-Pop Night in Birmingham and had so much fun dancing to it. It’s definitely making me look forward to more Weki Meki comebacks.

So there we have it, my top twenty K-Pop songs from 2019! Feel free to leave a comment with your favourites from last year.

30 Favourite K-Pop Songs of 2018

TWICE.jpg

I’ve only made this for fun, similar to when I made last year’s post. This is just my opinion, feel free to disagree or leave comments with any songs you think I missed this year! I’m only featuring groups once on the list and the songs could be comebacks, debuts, solo releases and it’s not just K-Pop some Japanese songs may be included. Here goes nothing!

30. KHAN – I’m Your Girl?

KHAN I'm Your Girl.gif

I don’t know much about KHAN but I came across a tweet on Twitter hyping up this song so I decided to check it out. It’s a good song – not my favourite from 2018 but still a good song nonetheless. I wish KHAN every success for the future!

29. Moonbyul ft. Seulgi – Selfish

Selfish gif.gif

Considering Moonbyul is my Mamamoo bias and Seulgi is my Red Velvet bias it’s safe to say that when I heard about this song I was super excited. The girls suited each other so well and it was an amazing collab. We need more collabs between companies, this song was amazing!

28. Oh My Girl – Secret Garden

Oh My Girl Secret Garden gif.gif

Last year Oh My Girl were at number 16 on my list with ‘Colouring Book’ but unfortunately this year they’ve dropped a few places because I wasn’t really a fan of their comebacks this year. I’m not sure what it is because I know I’m not a fan of like the chill vibe in songs but ‘Closer’ was relatively chill and I love that song so much. I’m not sure; I just wasn’t a big fan of Oh My Girl’s releases this year. But ‘Secret Garden’ still made it to the list because it is a sweet song!

27. Pristin V – Get It

Pristin V Get It gif.gif

My friend Jess probably would’ve placed this song a lot higher up the list because she loved this song. I remember at one point she’d give me a lift places and this song would be on repeat the entire time. We went to a K-Pop Night in Birmingham and she requested that the DJ play this song (I don’t think he did which she was disappointed about). It is a good song but not really 100% my taste. Still a good song though!

26. Nature – Some (You’ll be Mine)

Some gif.gif

Nature only debuted this year and I think this was another song I found through people raving on Twitter. At first I’m not sure this is the song for me because it’s quite sweet but then the chorus hits and it goes hard. The girls’ dancing is amazing and the song is really good! I hope they’re another group that continue to do well.

25. EXID – Lady

EXID Lady gif.gif

Everyone’s been raving about EXID’s ‘I Love You’ but truthfully, I wasn’t a massive fan. Obviously I’m over the moon that Solji’s back so I wanted to love it but unfortunately I didn’t. To be truthful I’m not the biggest fan of EXID’s new stuff because it doesn’t feel as iconic as their old stuff but ‘Lady’ was still a good song and I’m still looking forward to future EXID releases.

24. NCT U – Baby Don’t Stop

Baby Don't Stop gif.gif

I feel like the only reason I listen to NCT songs is because Becca sings them on repeat so I end up checking them out because they’re stuck in my head. I first heard this song when on holiday in Greece. We were driving through Crete and Becca was in charge of the playlist and she played this song. I actually enjoyed it so the next day I asked if she could put it on again. I’m not the biggest NCT fan but they do have some bops, this one included!

23. Cosmic Girls – Dreams Come True

Dreams Come True gif.gif

Cosmic Girls came in at 26th on last year’s list with ‘I Wish’ – with hindsight I probably would’ve ranked that song higher because I love it more as time has gone on. No doubt something similar will happen with ‘Dreams Come True’ because although I think it’s a good song, it’s not my favourite song ever. But it’s still a great song; I can’t wait to see what Cosmic Girls release in 2019!

22. Laysha – Pink Label

Pink Label gif.gif

I only discovered Laysha this year with their song ‘Chocolate Cream’ which I instantly loved. So when they dropped their ‘Pink Label’ comeback I was quick to watch it and loved it pretty much straightaway. It’s a cool song!

21. J-Hope – daydream

daydream gif.gif

J-Hope is my BTS bias so when I found out he was releasing a solo song I was over the moon and he definitely didn’t disappoint. I loved pretty much everything about it, the song, the music video… It was all amazing and you could tell how hard he’d worked on it. I’m so proud of my boy and I love this song so much!

20. Hyolyn – Dally

Dally gif.gif

Okay but to have a body and able to dance like Hyolyn… Would actually be a dream come true. This song is absolutely perfect for Hyolyn and she absolutely slayed it. I think it took me a couple of listens to get into but once I did I was gone, it’s such a good song.

19. Jennie – Solo

Solo gif.gif

I’m a bit sick of people moaning that this sounded like ‘Gashina’. I love this song and I think Jennie did amazing. As the first member of Black Pink to do a solo I think she did incredibly well. It’s a good song and I loved it from first listen. I hope more Black Pink members get solos in the future because this one was awesome.

18. 24K – Bonnie n Clyde

24K Bonnie n Clyde gif.gif

So 24K made the announcement this year that Kisu was joining the military and that they’d added a new member called Kiyong. It was their first comeback without Kisu and I was a little disappointed as Kisu’s always been quite high on my bias list. But this song was still amazing and I love Kiyong, he’s so sweet. I went to see them in Paris and had the best time ever; hearing this song live was amazing. I can’t wait to see what 24K comeback with in 2019!

17. Oh My Girl Banhana – Banana Allergy Monkey

Banana Allergy Monkey gif.gif

Okay, there’s been some divide about this song… But I don’t care; I think it’s a cute and fun song! I don’t care if it’s a bit childish; sometimes music can just be fun! I preferred this song to Oh My Girl’s main releases this year and loved that they didn’t take themselves too seriously and just went for it. I wasn’t 100% sure at first but as time went on I loved it a lot. Definitely one of my favourite songs of 2018!

16. Hyo – Sober

Hyo Sober gif.gif

I wasn’t 100% certain on this song at first but after a few listens I suddenly couldn’t stop listening to it. I don’t normally like English versions of K-Pop songs but I ended up preferring the English version to this song for some reason. Hyoyeon just absolutely killed it. I also loved ‘Punk Right Now’ as well but ‘Sober’ was definitely higher up on my list of favourite 2018 songs. I can’t wait to see what she releases in 2019!

15. LOONA yyxy – love4eva

love4eva gif.gif

Pretty much every K-Pop fan has heard of LOONA due to the loyal fan base who constantly spam pretty much everything with comments saying ‘anyway stan LOONA’. Ever since I’d heard about LOONA’s concept I’d wanted to become a fan but didn’t really enjoy their debut. However I loved the yyxy subunit song of ‘love4eva’ right from the first listen. I also love the music video and just pretty much everything about it. It’s such a good song!

14. Oh!GG – ‘Lil Touch

Lil Touch gif.gif

Girls’ Generation were at 24 on my list last year with ‘Holiday’ – it’s safe to say I was way more impressed with this year’s comeback. Although I’m sad that there are only five members left it’s also good in a way because members who previously didn’t get many lines are now getting a chance to shine. I’m so glad Sunny got a chance to showcase her talent, although was annoyed at comments like ‘wow where has Sunny’s talent been all these years?’ Um right there in front of you, she’s just now getting a chance to actually show it. ‘’Lil Touch’ was an amazing song and if you haven’t heard it then you’re honestly missing out.

13. Mamamoo – Egotistic

Egotistic gif.gif

I didn’t really feel like giving Mamamoo much of a chance after listening to ‘Starry Night’ because I wasn’t really a fan and figured I was going off them. Then Jess gave me a lift home and this was her current song that she had on repeat. I gave it a listen on Spotify and actually ended up loving it. It really suits Mamamoo and I feel like they’ve found a sound that suits them. It doesn’t make me like ‘Starry Night’ though.

12. (G)I-DLE – $$$

G(I)DLE gif.gif

Although I liked LATATA I wasn’t over the moon impressed with it. I still liked (G)I-DLE so when this song came up in my recommended I decided to give it a listen and instantly fell in love with it. (G)I-DLE are so talented and I’m so glad I discovered this song because it’s amazing.

11. TWICE – Yes or Yes?

Yes or Yes gif.gif

TWICE can sometimes be a bit hit and miss with their songs but I feel like they’ve done nothing but impress me this year. Each new comeback has been my favourite – I put ‘Yes or Yes’ on the list as that was their latest release and I loved it at first listen. But ‘What is Love’ and ‘Dance the Night Away’ were amazing as well. I can’t wait to see what TWICE release next year but I really hope they take a well-deserved break soon!

10. Black Pink – Forever Young

Black Pink Forever Young gif.gif

I loved DU-DUU DU-DUU at first listen but wasn’t so sure about ‘Forever Young’ initially because once the beat dropped it was almost like listening to a completely different song. But it grew on me and overtime became my favourite Black Pink song. I just love pretty much everything about it – even the beat drop I initially disliked.

9. SoRi – Touch

SoRi Touch gif.gif

I love CocoSori so much but I hadn’t been a big fan of Coco’s solo song. That didn’t put me off trying SoRi’s solo and I’m so glad it didn’t because I LOVED ‘Touch’ so much. I had it on repeat for ages when I first listened to it because I loved it. SoRi is amazing and I love her, she’s so talented. I also loved ‘I’m Ready’ from this year but ‘Touch’ is still definitely my favourite.

8. G-Friend – Memoria

Memoria gif.gif

G-Friend have had some good comebacks this year but there was something about ‘Memoria’ that I automatically loved. This was another song that I had on repeat for ages and is probably my favourite G-Friend song at the moment. It’s just so sweet and so very G-Friend. I love it!

7. gugudan – Not That Type

Not That Type gif.gif

To be honest I’ve never really listened to gugudan – well I did listen to a couple of songs but wasn’t particularly impressed so didn’t bother again for a while. Then I decided to give ‘Not That Type’ a listen and oh my god, I was blown away. This song was amazing and I will definitely be checking out more gugudan in the New Year!

6. AOA – Bingle Bangle

Bingle Bangle gif.gif

A few people were worried that without Choa that AOA would flop, but let’s be real… ‘Bingle Bangle’ was one of the best songs that AOA have ever released. Jimin’s rap part is definitely the best bit but it was a good song all around. I love AOA so much and this is definitely my current favourite song by them.

5. MOMOLAND – BAAM

MOMOLAND BAAM gif.gif

It’s crazy that on last year’s list MOMOLAND were at the bottom of the list with ‘Freeze!’ This year has been a good year for MOMOLAND’s careers since they blew up with their song ‘Bboom Bboom’. Unfortunately MOMOLAND have also low-key become the ‘in group’ to dislike but I love them and I loved ‘BAAM’.  While most people preferred ‘Bboom Bboom’ I much preferred ‘BAAM’. I hate that everyone’s moaning that ‘BAAM’ sounds quite similar – after the success of ‘Bboom Bboom’ of course they were going to play it safe, they need to establish a solid fan base before experimenting with different sounds. I’m proud of all MOMOLAND have achieved and I hope they continue their success in 2019.

4. BTS – Idol

BTS Idol gif.gif

I’d been worried I was going off BTS last year but this year they’ve definitely reclaimed their place as my favourite boy group. It might help that I finally got to see them live at their own concert (after previously seeing them at K-Con Paris). I loved so many BTS songs this year but my favourite title track was almost definitely ‘Idol’. It’s just so much fun and was an amazing song to see live (from what I could see considering I was at the back of the venue).

3. Red Velvet – Really Bad Boy

Really Bad Boy gif.gif

Red Velvet are another group that released bop after bop this year but I especially loved ‘Really Bad Boy’. I know a few people will disagree but I actually preferred it to ‘Bad Boy’, I don’t even care. I loved it from first listen and the music video is amazing. I can’t wait to see what Red Velvet release in 2019 because I have no doubt that it’ll be amazing.

2. Dreamcatcher – What

What gif.gif

I love Dreamcatcher but ‘What’ absolutely blew me away. I’d seen it was released but take a few days to actually get around to listening it – when I did though I loved it instantly, it reminded me of when I’d first heard them with ‘Chase Me’. I couldn’t stop listening to it until eventually I’d listened to it one too many times. But it’s still an amazing song and one of the best of 2019. Here’s hoping Dreamcatcher come back to Europe one day so I can see them live all over again!

1. CLC – Black Dress

Black Dress gif.gif

I did like ‘Hobgoblin’ but nothing could’ve prepared me for how much I loved ‘Black Dress’. It was definitely my favourite comeback of 2019, I knew from the moment it was released that it would be. CLC are amazing and can slay pretty much every concept and they did amazing at this one. I love everything about it and if you haven’t listened to it then what the hell are you doing? I wish CLC all the success in the world for 2019.

Feel free to let me know if you think I missed any amazing comebacks, debuts or whatever in 2019!

Favourite K-Pop Covers

Oh My Girl.jpg

Occasionally K-Pop artists do covers of other artists songs, both K-Pop and western ones. I haven’t listened to tons but I did want to write a list of my top ten favourite covers performed by K-Pop artists. Enjoy!

10. TWICE/G-Friend – Gee

TWICE & G-Friend - Gee.gif

It was awesome to see TWICE and G-Friend covering each other’s songs and interesting too considering they have different sounds. TWICE covered ‘Me Gustas Tu’ and G-Friend covered ‘Like Ooh-Ahh’. Then certain members of both groups came together to cover Girls’ Generation’s ‘Gee’, arguably one of the most iconic girl group songs. It was great to see the two groups collab as there are so many fan wars these days and it was a fun performance for their fans.

9. BESTie – Mamacita

BESTie Mamacita gif.gif

‘Mamacita’ is arguably my favourite Super Junior song so to hear BESTie had covered it was pretty cool. BESTie have amazing vocals and their cover of the song was really good and showcased their talent well. I definitely think they should do more covers in the future.

8. Girls’ Generation/f(x) – Sorry, Sorry

Girls' Generation & f(x) - Sorry Sorry.gif

Another girl group collab! Interactions within companies are always lovely to see so to watch Girls’ Generation and f(x) performing a Super Junior song was awesome. They absolutely rocked it, I just wish they’d done the entire thing. The outfits were good and the whole thing was just on point. I’d love to see another collab stage like this.

7. Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation) – Please Don’t Stop The Music

Hyoyeon Please Don't Stop the Music gif.gif

I grew up listening to Rihanna so was excited to hear Hyoyeon had covered this song. It suited her voice so well and I love it when she gets solo songs because it proves the haters wrong – Hyoyeon CAN sing and I’m sick of people saying she can’t. A song like ‘Please Don’t Stop The Music’ was perfect for Girls’ Generation’s dancing queen and I’d love to hear more Hyoyeon covers in the future – although her own solo songs are amazing too!

6. 24K – Talk Dirty to Me

24K Talk Dirty to Me gif.gif

24K usually do a few covers at their shows, at their most recent one Jeonguk danced to Black Pink’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’. Back when I first saw them they performed this along with a few other covers including Big Bang’s ‘Bang Bang Bang’. ‘Talk Dirty to Me’ was one of my favourite covers of the night, I remember getting so lit with Becca watching this at the Amsterdam concert even though I hate watching back the video I took because all you can hear is me yell “TORK DIRTEE TO MEH” and then a lot of screaming. But honestly, it was lit!

5. Dreamcatcher – Really Really

Dreamcatcher Really Really gif.gif

To be 100% honest with you I didn’t like this song until Dreamcatcher covered it. I didn’t really give Winner a chance but when Dreamcatcher dropped their cover I loved it. I think I still low-key prefer Dreamcatcher’s version and I wish they’d performed it in full at their concert, they sang a little bit of it but not all of it. It was a good cover, they do quite a lot of covers so I’ll definitely keep checking them out!

4. Jessica Jung – Gravity

Jessica Gravity gif.gif

I included this song in my ’10 Slow Songs I actually Like’ list and that felt like a bit of an achievement for me. When it starts it doesn’t sound like a song I’d be interested in but Jessica’s vocals really suck me in and I just love everything about it. It’s an amazing cover and really showcases Jessica’s amazing voice. I need to listen to more of her solo stuff.

3. Sooyoung (Girls’ Generation) – Sway

Sooyoung Sway gif.gif

This isn’t necessarily a song I would’ve picked for Sooyoung to cover but I’m so glad they did because the whole performance was amazing from Sooyoung’s dancing to the vocals to her outfit, the whole thing was just perfect. Sooyoung is an amazing singer and it’s a shame she doesn’t get as much of an opportunity in Girls’ Generation to showcase that. Hopefully we’ll get more solo stuff in the future!

2. Mamamoo – Delilah

Mamamoo Delilah gif

The vocals in this absolutely blow my mind. Solar, Wheein and Hwasa absolutely go for those high notes and it kills me every time. And Moonbyul’s rapping definitely brings a bit of individuality to the song and they owned the entire thing. I just love the entire thing, it gives me goosebumps pretty much every time I listen to it and I love it.

1. Sunny (Girls’ Generation) – 3

Sunny 3 gif.gif

I’m not really sure why this is my favourite but I’ve listened to it a ton of times. Sunny is my absolute Girls’ Generation bias and it really annoys me when people claim she doesn’t get many lines because she’s not a good singer. Yes, she is and this song proves that. It was the perfect song for Sunny to sing and I love the entire performance. I wish I’d been able to see it live but there’s no chance of that now. I just have the cover on my iPod to listen to over and over again.

Well there we go, there’s my ten favourite K-Pop covers – feel free to leave me a comment with some recommendations and your own favourites!

Top 10 Favourite K-Pop Girl Groups: UPDATED

Sistar

I already posted a list of my favourite K-Pop girl groups but that list has shifted slightly and changed so I wanted to give it a quick update. Here we go!

10. Black Pink

Black Pink gif.gif

I’ve finally decided I’m definitely a Black Pink fan. I go through phases of not particularly liking them to absolutely loving them and since I like all of their songs I think it’s safe to say I am a fan. I was a big Blackjack but I still disagree when people say that Black Pink sound like 2NE1 2.0. There hasn’t been a Black Pink song that I could imagine 2NE1 singing and Black Pink generally sound a bit cuter than 2NE1’s sound so I wish people would stop comparing the two. Ultimately, I think Black Pink are great and if only YG would promote them better I’m sure they would continue to do even better than they already are.

Favourite Song: Boombayah
Bias: Lisa

9. EXID

EXID gif.gif

Unfortunately EXID have dropped a couple of places on my list. Although I still love them I feel like they’ve lost something in their songs, for a while they were releasing absolute bangers but lately their songs have been a little average. Of course, that may just be my opinion! I still think they’re amazingly talented and they’re a group I’ll always love.

Favourite Song: Lie
Bias: LE

8. CLC

CLC gif.gif

I feel like I was a bit of a CLC fan after ‘Hobgoblin’ because that was good and I also liked some of their earlier songs like ‘High Heels’ and ‘Oh No No’ but ‘Black Dress’ honestly blew all of those songs out of the water. I fell in love with that song immediately and I think it’ll place quite high when I do my ‘best K-Pop songs of 2018’ list at the end of the year. CLC are extremely talented and can do pretty much any concept so they’re quite easy to love!

Favourite Song: Black Dress
Bias: Sorn

7. Cosmic Girls

Cosmic Girls gif 2.gif

Originally I loved the idea of Cosmic Girls but couldn’t really get into them. I loved their aesthetic music videos and their look in general but their songs were a little too chill for me at the time. However now they’ve quickly grown on me and I love Cosmic Girls. I can’t believe the fans managed to convince people that two of the members were Chinese billionaire lesbians like that is honestly iconic. Cosmic Girls are amazing and they have some of the prettiest looking MVs, I honestly recommend them so much.

Favourite Song: I Wish
Bias: Yeonjung

6. TWICE

TWICE gif.gif

TWICE were at the bottom of this list last time but I’m beginning to realise how much I actually love TWICE’s songs. TWICE are a good group to stan because they’re promoted quite regularly but their comebacks are always impressive. I don’t get why people trash them just because they hate ‘cute’ songs like TWICE have some bops and at the end of the day their songs are happy and fun, I can totally get behind that. People complain they have ‘weak vocals’ and this, that or the other but the girls are talented – they wouldn’t be idols if they weren’t.

Favourite Song: One in a Million
Bias: Dahyun

5. AOA

AOA gif.gif

I used to be a casual fan of AOA but now I love them so much. I’m still gutted that Choa left but hopefully the girls can continue to promote without her. AOA are really good and totally own the sexy concept and honestly I just think they’re amazing. Everyone moans that Jimin sounds ‘squeaky’ when she raps but I actually love her voice she’s one of my favourite rappers. AOA are just a brilliant group and I don’t understand people who hate on them.

Favourite Song: Miniskirt
Bias: Jimin

4. Red Velvet

Red Velvet gif.gif

Red Velvet are so amazingly talented and I’m glad they’re starting to explore more concepts. I didn’t like ‘Bad Boy’ when I first heard it but now it’s completely grown on me and I love it. I can’t wait to see what Red Velvet do in the future because I feel like they could slay any concept. The only thing that annoys me is the amount of people that hate on Yeri and act like she’s useless – people wouldn’t complain if she’d been in Red Velvet from the start, it’s only because she was added later. Personally I think Red Velvet are much more suited to be a five member group but that’s just my opinion.

Favourite Song: Peek-A-Boo
Bias: Seulgi

3. Girls’ Generation

Girls Generation gif.gif

I love Girls’ Generation so much but they’ve dropped a couple of places simply because they’re not going to promote as much in the future now that Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun have left SM. I think Hyoyeon announced that the girls would be promoting for their anniversaries and that’s it. I love my girls but it’s hard to be a proper stan when the girls are all off doing their own things. But ultimately I will always love Girls’ Generation, they have some amazing songs and I love every member.

Favourite Song: I Got A Boy
Bias: Sunny

2. Oh My Girl

Oh My Girl gif.gif

Oh My Girl have risen on the list, not entirely sure why but I just love them. They’re another group who usually have quite aesthetic music videos and quality songs. Honestly I love them so much. It’s sad that JinE had to leave but I 100% understand and I hope she’s doing a lot better now. But still Oh My Girl are doing amazing – I’m not sure how much I liked ‘Secret Garden’ even though the music video was aesthetic as hell but I did end up loving ‘Banana Allergy Monkey’ a lot more than I thought I would. Oh My Girl are brilliant and if you haven’t listened to them then you’re honestly missing out.

Favourite Song: Liar Liar
Bias: Hyojung

1. G-Friend

G-Friend gif.gif

G-Friend have risen to the top spot on my favourite girl groups because honestly the girls are insanely talented. They have brilliant vocals and are probably the best girl group when it comes to dancing (in my opinion). I like pretty much all their songs but I do need to give some a few listens before I like them (I hated ‘Love Whisper’ when I first heard it but now I love it). I was really impressed with ‘Fingertip’ and I kind of wish they’d give that concept another go because they keep returning to their same sound and although I love their songs it was really good to see them mixing it up a bit.

Favourite Song: Fingertip
Bias:
Umji

So there we go, that’s my updated ten favourite girl groups list! Feel free to leave your favourites in the comments or leave me any recommendations.

K-Pop Bias vs. Bias Wrecker

BTS 4.jpg

I liked my post about original bias against current bias so I thought I’d do a post about my bias’ and my bias wreckers! Because let’s face it, it can be hard having just one bias when there are so many amazing members. So here is a list of my bias’ vs my bias wreckers.

Oh My Girl

Bias: Hyojung

Hyojung gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Yooa

Yooa gif.gif

I don’t know much about Oh My Girl personally but they have some of the best songs ever in my opinion. Hyojung is my bias because I used to only like the song ‘Liar Liar’ and her parts were my favourite. I think now Hyojung is still my bias but Yooa is really sweet and I can’t help liking her a lot too!

G-Friend

Bias: Umji

Umji gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Yuju

Yuju gif.gif

When I first became a fan of G-Friend Yuju was my bias because of how professionally she handled falling over during their ‘Me Gustas Tu’ stage. But the more I got into them the more I started to love Umji until she eventually became my bias. However I still love Yuju because I think she’s such a talented singer and I love listening to her parts in any G-Friend song.

ASTRO

Bias: Moonbin

Moonbin gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Sanha

Sanha gif.gif

I think Sanha is so sweet but the fact remains that he is seventeen and I am twenty-one. In fact when I became a fan I think he was only sixteen. It’s not the biggest age difference in the world but he’s underage and I’d feel weird about having him as my bias. Luckily I like Moonbin that little bit more but I’ll always think Sanha’s sweet.

Girls’ Generation

Bias: Sunny

Sunny gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Hyoyeon

Hyoyeon gif.gif

Sunny has been my bias ever since I got into Girls’ Generation and there’s nothing I don’t love about her. But if I was going to pick another bias it would definitely by Hyoyeon. Hyoyeon’s another member where I love pretty much everything about her. She’s so funny and so talented. I loved her solo sings and I’m sick of people acting like she can’t sing. Same for Sunny though to be honest, she has an amazing voice and everyone’s like ‘nah she can’t sing’. Just be quiet.

BTS

Bias: J-Hope

J-Hope gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Jin

Jin gif.gif

I love BTS so much and I’ve always been more of a fan of the hyung line rather than the maknae line so my bias wrecker tends to switch between Suga, Jin and Namjoon. J-Hope will probably always be my bias in BTS because I love him but Jin is definitely in second. I hate the people who act like he’s a useless member. He’s an amazing singer and he’s so sweet to his fans.

Seventeen

Bias: Jeonghan

Jeonghan gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Woozi

Woozi gif.gif

In a previous post I wrote that my current bias was Vernon… Well, it’s changed again whoops! I really like Jeonghan now. I don’t know why. I don’t really know anything about the members personalities I just really like Jeonghan. But my original bias Woozi is still a complete bias wrecker because I think he’s really sweet.

Mamamoo

Bias: Moonbyul

Moonbyul gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Hwasa

Hwasa gif.gif

If I could look like any K-Pop idol ever I’d definitely pick Hwasa. The girl is absolutely stunning and so insanely talented that it makes me jealous. Moonbyul is still my bias because I think she’s funny and I love her to pieces but Hwasa is honestly such a bias wrecker. She’s amazing.

24K

Bias: Cory

Cory gif.gif

Bias Wrecker: Kisu

Kisu gif.gif

But also: Hongseob

Hongseob gif.gif

Look, after the fan meet in London back in August [x] I love pretty much every member of 24K. But I’m only human and I have my favourites. Cory’s always been my bias and I doubt he’ll ever stop being my bias at this point but I love Kisu and Hongseob too. In person Kisu is honestly just so stunning and he’s really sweet but so is Hongseob! To be honest all the members are bias wreckers AND IF YOU HAVEN’T LISTENED TO THEM ALREADY THEN DO IT NOW!

So there is my list of bias’ vs bias wreckers, feel free to leave yours in the comments!

Top 30 2017 K-Pop Songs

BTS 2.jpg

Before I start I wanna make it clear that as with all other posts this is just my opinion! I’m pretty sure there are tons of debuts and comebacks that I missed this year so I may at some point change my mind about this list but right now, I wanted to make a quick list of my top thirty favourite K-Pop songs from 2017. This could include comebacks, debuts or solo releases. This list was originally only supposed to have twenty songs but there were so many good songs this year that I had to extend the list to thirty!

Any artist listed won’t be included again with any other songs they had this year.

30. Momoland – Freeze

Momoland Freeze gif

This song is really cute and I like the music video for it. Momoland are all really talented but unfortunately pretty underrated. I did enjoy this song but it wasn’t one of my favourites this year. I still recommend giving it a listen though!

29. Winner – Really Really

Winner Really Really gif.gif

I wasn’t really a big fan of this song when I first heard it but after listening to a cover of the song by ‘Dreamcatcher’ I realised that actually it’s brilliant. I do low-key feel like Winner got robbed of the Song of the Year award because this song was extremely popular. Although it wasn’t one of my favourites this year I did like it and I hope Winner continue to rise in popularity!

28. CLC – Hobgoblin

CLC Hobgoblin gif

This song was amazing, I hadn’t listened to much CLC beforehand but I am a fan of ‘High Heels’ and ‘Oh No No’. I’m sad that most fans dropped CLC after the hype of ‘Hobgoblin’ but to be fair although I’m a fan of some of CLC’s older songs I did think ‘Where Are You’ was pretty boring and probably wasn’t the best move by Cube after the success of ‘Hobgoblin’. Either way this song was great and brought some well-deserved attention to CLC.

27. Weki Meki – I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend

Weki Meki I Dont Like Your Girlfriend gif.gif

I hated this song when I first heard it, I thought it was really annoying. But after a few listens the song did grow on me. I wouldn’t say it was one of my favourites or anything but I am looking forward to seeing what Weki Meki release in 2018. I hope they can continue to do well!

26. Cosmic Girls – I Wish

Cosmic Girls I Wish gif.gif

For a while I really couldn’t get into Cosmic Girls. I thought their music videos were so aesthetically pleasing and I liked the idea of them but I wasn’t a big fan of their songs until eventually I started liking ‘Happy’ which lead me to start liking ‘Secret’ and ‘I Wish’. Although ‘Secret’ is probably my favourite I still think ‘I Wish’ is brilliant with such a pretty music video. Cosmic Girls are great, they deserve more views!

25. Hyuna – Lip & Hip

Hyuna Lip & Hip gif.gif

I wasn’t particularly a big fan of ‘Babe’ but I do love Hyuna so when she released ‘Lip & Hip’ I gave it a listen. It’s such a good song! And I love the music video, I don’t care what anyone says. This song was lit and now I’m willing to give ‘Babe’ another chance.

24. Girls’ Generation – Holiday

Girls Generation Holiday gif.gif

It was the comeback I’d been waiting for, I was counting down the days until their ten year anniversary so I could finally hear something new from my favourite group. Although I loved both ‘Holiday’ and ‘All Night’ I’m a bit disappointed that there wasn’t particularly any meaning behind the two songs to celebrate ten years of them being together. ‘Sailing’ was a nine year anniversary song and it held so much meaning. I’m not saying it had to be slow but I don’t see the point in either of the songs like they’re great as just songs but ten year anniversary songs? Anyway I’m getting a bit salty. Either way I’m glad my girls finally came back this year.

23. NCT 127 – Cherry Bomb

NCT 127 Cherry Bomb gif.gif

I’m not a massive fan of NCT, mainly because I’m not a fan of the amount of members and units and I just find the whole thing a bit confusing so I don’t really want to get invested in them personally. I gave this song one listen and didn’t particularly like it until my friend sang it nonstop on a trip we went on. I came home and had it on repeat for ages because it’s actually a pretty decent song. It hasn’t quite convinced me to get more invested in NCT but I can’t deny it’s catchy.

22. EXID – DDD

Exid DDD gif.gif

Although I’m sad that Solji isn’t currently promoting with EXID I can’t deny that this song was good. Although I thought this was good and ‘Night Rather Than Day’ was good I still can’t help but feel like EXID have lost something. Like I feel like ‘Up & Down’, ‘Ah Yeah’, ‘Hot Pink’ and ‘Lie’ are all so iconic but their releases this year have been relatively average for EXID. I still love EXID and will continue to support them in the future and although I loved their releases this year I can’t help but feel slightly disappointed. ‘DDD’ is still a great song though.

21. iKON – B-Day

iKON BDay gif.gif

I’m not particularly a massive iKON fan but this song was really good! I’m not really invested in iKON personally but I can’t deny that their songs are always so catchy and fun! They’re another group I’d love to see live one day because I bet it’d be a lot of fun. This song was great along with ‘Bling Bling’ so if you haven’t checked them out I really recommend it!

20. IOI – Downpour

IOI Downpour gif.gif

I’ll admit it, I cried whilst watching the music video for the first time. They were doing so well together and I loved them so much as a group, why did they have to disband? I hope they do some kind of reunion at some point to perform because I miss them and it hasn’t even been a year yet. I know they’re doing well whether that be returning to their old groups, debuting in a new group, going solo etc. but I still miss them! ‘Downpour’ was so good and I wept so much, if you haven’t listened to it then you’re missing out.

19. Block B – Yesterday

Block B gif

I became a fan of Block B when I saw them at ‘K-Con Paris’ last year – I wasn’t a big fan at the time but their set was so lit and they were probably the most fun group to see live. I was very happy when they announced a European tour earlier this year. Me and Becca went and had the best time ever – especially when Kyung waved at us! This song was released just before the concert and I love it. If you haven’t listened to Block B then you’re really missing out.

18. Black Pink – As If It’s Your Last

Black Pink As If Its Your Last gif.gif

Can you imagine how well Black Pink would do if they actually had regular and decent promotions? The girls are already amazingly popular so if they were promoting regularly they could easily do well. But unfortunately YG only gave them one comeback this year for some reason? I’m salty but whatever. I did love ‘As If It’s Your Last’ but I still think compared to their debut songs it wasn’t as good. I can’t wait to see what else they release though!

17. HALO – Here I Am

giphy

I heard of HALO because they announced a Europe tour and I’m tempted to go and see them, assuming I have enough money. Before I made up my mind I decided to listen to some of their songs. To be honest with you I’ve only listened to ‘Here I Am’ so far but it’s brilliant! I really hope I can go and see them next year, they’re a brilliant group and I highly recommend them.

16. Oh My Girl – Colouring Book

Oh My Girl Colouring Book gif.gif

I couldn’t stand Oh My Girl for a while but now I love them! Although I think some of their older songs like ‘Liar Liar’ and ‘Closer’ are better, I still think ‘Colouring Book’ is great. I’m sad that JinE had to leave but completely understand, it was definitely the right decision and I hope she starts to recover. I’ll continue to support the girls as a seven member group because I know they’ll continue to do well – I’m looking forward to their comeback in January!

15. Sistar – Lonely

SISTAR Lonely gif

This is another song released just before the group disbanded that made me want to cry. I’d just become a big fan of Sistar when they announced their disbandment, how cruel is that? The music video for ‘Lonely’ is probably one of my favourites and the whole song is definitely one of my favourites this year. I’ll miss you Sistar!

14. Good Day – Rolly

Good Day Rolly gif

I love this song! It’s so cute and puts me in a good mood. I also love the girls’ sparkly outfits. There’s nothing about this song that I don’t love. ‘Good Day’ aren’t that popular but they’re really talented and I recommend giving them a listen!

13. Pristin – We Like

Pristin We Like gif.gif

I didn’t like ‘Wee Woo’ when it was first released but after trying it a few times it grew on me and I ended up quite liking Pristin. When ‘We Like’ was released I didn’t like that either at first listen but by the second listen it had grown on me a lot. It’s so catchy and just really a fun song! I’m looking forward to seeing what Pristin release in the future, their songs are so catchy and I love them.

12. MiSO – KKPP

MiSo KKPP gif.gif

I’m quite a new fan of MiSO but she has some good songs. She’s the maknae of girl group ‘Girls Girls’ and she made her solo debut earlier this year. I first listened to ‘Pink Lady’ which I thought was really good then ‘KKPP’ which was even better! It’s a shame she’s from such a small company because she’s really talented and I’ll definitely be looking out for her work in the future.

11. Jessi – Gucci

Jessi Gucci gif

Jessi is honestly so good, I think her voice is absolutely amazing and ‘Gucci’ is now one of my favourite songs. I liked some of her other songs like ‘Ssenunni’ and ‘Unpretty Dreams’ but ‘Gucci’ absolutely blew them away, I thought it was so good. Definitely one of my favourite comebacks this year!

10. Hyoyeon – Wannabe

Hyoyeon Wannabe gif

I’m so glad my girl Hyoyeon is finally releasing solo music and proving to everyone that yes, she can sing despite everyone claiming she couldn’t and that she was only in Girls’ Generation because she’s a talented dancer. Hyoyeon can do both, believe it or not! Although I did like ‘Mystery’ I found it was a bit repetitive and didn’t really showcase Hyo’s talent. ‘Wannabe’ was perfect though, I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I hope she releases more solo stuff in the future because she’s brilliant!

9. BTS – Not Today

BTS Not Today gif.gif

When ‘Spring Day’ was released I was a little disappointed. I love that song now but I didn’t like it at the time because I’m not usually a fan of slower songs. So I was really happy when they dropped the music video for ‘Not Today’ because it was so my taste in music. I loved everything about it, especially the choreography. I’m glad BTS are doing so well but I hope they get chance to rest, I’m low-key stressed about them. Either way I’m looking forward to seeing what they release in the future and I’m still hoping they’ll do their own show in Europe someday but I won’t hold my breath.

8. TWICE – Heart Shaker

TWICE Heart Shaker gif.gif

TWICE were on the first draft of this list but a lot lower down with ‘Knock Knock’ because I did love that song. I wasn’t as big of a fan of ‘Signal’ so that wouldn’t have been included. Then they released ‘Heart Shaker’ and they were immediately bumped up the list. I don’t know what it is about that song but I love it so much. I can’t stop listening to it! I hope TWICE continue to do well in 2018!

7. Mamamoo – Aze Gag (Dad Jokes)

Mamamoo Aze Gag gif.gif

To be honest when I first saw the teasers for this song I wasn’t impressed – I didn’t think it looked that great. When it was dropped I actually really liked it and it quickly became one of my favourite Mamamoo songs. I wasn’t as big of a fan of ‘Yes I Am’ which was the song I thought I’d prefer. I can’t wait to see what Mamamoo release in the new year!

6. 24K – Only You

24K Only You gif

This comeback was amazing and I don’t care what anybody says. I love 24K so much! This was a bit different to their other comebacks like ‘Bingo’ or ‘Superfly’ but it was still just as good. Please listen to 24K if you haven’t already, they’re so good and so lovely and I could talk about them all day so just give them a try! I hope they come back to Europe soon, I know they’re going to America next year but I really need to see my boys again soon even though I’ve already seen them three times this year. Am I being greedy or…?

5. Dreamcatcher – Fly High

Dreamcatcher Fly High gif

I think Dreamcatcher are amazing, I love their unique songs and they’re so talented at dancing. I’ve loved all their releases this year but I think ‘Fly High’ is definitely my favourite. I can’t wait to see what Dreamcatcher release next year. It’s been officially announced that Dreamcatcher are doing a Europe tour next year which will include London! Tickets go on sale in the New Year and I hope I get one! I haven’t seen many girl groups live compared to boy groups so I’d love to see Dreamcatcher.

4. AOA – Excuse Me

AOA Excuse Me gif

I kept reading that AOA had completely ‘flopped’ with this comeback and everyone was saying it sucked and I really don’t understand? It was my favourite comeback of theirs so far, I loved everything about it! I had it on repeat from the moment I first listened to it and I still love it. Why does everyone else seem to dislike it? Most people said they preferred ‘Bing Bing’ and while I also loved that, I still thought that ‘Excuse Me’ was so much better. I’m sad Choa left but I hope AOA continue to promote, I’ll be devastated if they split up!

3. Red Velvet – Peek-A-Boo

Red Velvet Peek-A-Boo gif.gif

Red Velvet have had a few comebacks this year and whilst I enjoyed ‘Rookie’ and ‘Red Flavour’ so one of them would’ve made the list, they would’ve been quite a bit further down. Until they released ‘Peek a Boo’ and I was absolutely slayed. It surprised me because I’m not normally a fan of this type of song but I’ve had it on repeat since its release. I’m a little salty it was released mid-November when it would’ve been so much better to release around Halloween, it’s the perfect Halloween song but whatever. I was a bit worried I was going off Red Velvet but nope, they’ve brought me back in again.

2. Girl’s Day – I’ll Be Yours

Girls Day I'll Be Yours gif.gif

When I first heard this I hadn’t even realised it was a new release. I don’t know much about Girl’s Day but I assumed it had been out a while and I’d only just got round to finding it. I only know a couple of Girl’s Day songs and those are ‘Ring My Bell’ and ‘Something’ both of which I liked but didn’t particularly love. ‘I’ll Be Yours’ was amazing though, I loved everything about it. I haven’t seen the music video so I can’t comment on that but I love the song so much, I feel like I need to listen to more Girl’s Day now and I can’t wait to see what else they release because I honestly thought this song was brilliant.

1. G-Friend – Fingertip

GFriend Fingertip gif

I love G-Friend so much but you can’t deny that they have a particular sound which makes the majority of their songs sound very similar. That’s probably why I was so impressed when they released ‘Fingertip’. It’s quite funny because all the people who moaned about their songs sounding too similar moaned that this one sounded too different! Like what do you guys actually want? ‘Fingertip’ is so good and I was actually a little disappointed when they released ‘Love Whisper’ because I thought it sounded very similar to ‘Glass Bead’ which was my least favourite song by them.

Either way I love ‘Fingertip’ so much and I hope they release more songs like that in the future!

Let me know what your favourite releases this year were and whether you think I missed out on any absolutely great comebacks or debuts. I can’t wait to see what my favourite groups come out with in 2018 and here’s hoping some of them actually come to Europe so I can see them live!

Top Ten Favourite K-Pop Girl Groups and Bias’

When listening to K-Pop I’m more of a girl group stan than a boy group stan so I thought I’d write a quick list of my ten favourite girl groups, who my bias is and my favourite song from each of them!

10. TWICE

TWICE gif.gif

People seem to either really love TWICE or they can’t stand them like they have no in between. I really liked their first couple of songs but I wasn’t a big fan of ‘TT’ or ‘Signal’. The one thing I don’t like is when people compare them to Girls’ Generation like can’t we just let TWICE be TWICE? I do think they’re all talented and their songs are a lot of fun so I’d love to see them live one day. The girls all seem really sweet so yeah I’d definitely recommend them even though I imagine every K-Pop fan has listened to at least one of their songs.

Favourite song: Like Ooh-Ahh
Bias: Dahyun

9. IOI

IOI gif.gif

Did they really have to disband after one year? Could we not have just kept them together? I’m so glad I got to see them live at K-Con Paris but really sad I didn’t quite appreciate it enough. To be fair their set was a bit boring because although they opened with ‘Pick Me’ they then sang two slow songs and that was the end of that. I think that’s because apparently Somi was too young to go on stage though. But yeah I honestly loved IOI for the year they were around and their last song made me cry. I’m so proud of how much they achieved in just one year and I hope they continue to do well with their new groups/paths!

Favourite song: Dream Girls
Bias: Chungha

8. Red Velvet

Red Velvet gif.gif

Recently Red Velvet’s songs are a little strange in the sense that it takes me a few listens to become a fan. As I stated in a previous post, I hated ‘Russian Roulette’ when I first heard it but now it’s my favourite song. I hated ‘Rookie’ at first listen but now I love it. I thought ‘Red Flavour’ was okay but it took me a few listens to fully appreciate it. Their first few songs though were brilliant at first listen, I love ‘Dumb Dumb’ and ‘Ice Cream Cake’ so much. I’m glad Red Velvet are so popular, they really deserve it they’re so talented.

Favourite song: Russian Roulette
Bias: Seulgi

7. EXID

EXID gif.gif

I’m so glad I’ve finally seen EXID live I’m just so sad Solji wasn’t there. Either way I really hope that ‘London Korean Festival’ becomes a yearly tradition or something because it was awesome. Not quite on the same level as ‘K-Con Paris’ but you know beggars can’t be choosers. I’m getting off topic here. EXID are so good and they’re a group that are constantly slept on by K-Pop fans who are like “Oh I don’t like cute songs that’s why I don’t listen to girl groups”. Here are EXID, existing, bringing out absolute bangers and people keep ignoring them. To be fair compared to some groups they are building up quite a good fan base but for good reason! They’re all so talented, I can’t recommend them enough.

Favourite song: Lie
Bias: LE

6. AOA

AOA gif.gif

I couldn’t stand AOA when I first listened to them. I was listening to a ‘K-Pop Girl Groups 2015’ playlist so the song ‘Heart Attack’ came up and I hated it. So for a while I assumed all their songs sounded like that and didn’t really give them a chance. I can’t even remember what song I ended up listening to by them but I started to really like them! I think it was around the time of their ‘Good Luck’ comeback and I was like “Oh this sounds nothing like Heart Attack and I actually really like it”. Now I love AOA and I’m so sad that Choa left! I hope AOA keep releasing music and I’d love to see them live one day.

Favourite song: Mini Skirt
Bias: Jimin

5. G-Friend

G-Friend gif.gif

Like most fans I first discovered G-Friend through the fancam of their performance of ‘Me Gustas Tu’ which they performed on a wet stage which meant they kept slipping over but they still carried on like absolute pros. I watched their dance practice video and thought they were brilliant and I was even more impressed with their ‘Rough’ dance practice. Although I loved them I couldn’t help secretly agreeing with everyone that their songs sounded very similar. They’re easier to distinguish after a few listens but at first listen they are very similar sounding. Until they released ‘Fingertip’ and slayed my existence. I love that song more than I love myself. G-Friend are amazing and probably one of the most talented girl groups at dancing. I love them all so much!

4. Oh My Girl

Oh My Girl gif.gif

Oh My Girl’s ‘Liar Liar’ was amazing at first listen but I couldn’t get into many of their other songs. I thought their ‘A-ing’ comeback was a little annoying and their debut song ‘Cupid’ was also a little annoying. But I loved ‘Closer’ and the music video was such aesthetic goals. Then their comeback with ‘Colouring Book’ was also really good and I realised that actually, I kind of love Oh My Girl. Their music videos are always so pretty and aesthetically pleasing. If you’ve never listened to ‘Oh My Girl’ then I really recommend that you do, they’re so good!

Favourite song: Liar Liar

3. Crayon Pop

Crayon Pop gif.gif

For a long time Crayon Pop were my favourite group, they were the first K-Pop group I ever listened to and they’re the reason I became a fan in the first place. I’m sick of everyone’s negativity towards them like ‘oh they’re childish’, ‘they got famous by luck’ and ‘their songs are really annoying’. Okay maybe they’re not for everyone and I get that but then just don’t listen to them? Their songs are fun, I don’t see the issue. And they had to promote their music on the streets to gain attention because no shows would let them promote so I will not stand for anyone saying they didn’t work hard to get where they are today.

I can understand people finding their older songs annoying and repetitive like yes ‘Bar Bar Bar’ is repetitive and I didn’t like it at first but it grew on me. But then their comebacks like ‘Dancing All Night’, ‘FM’ and ‘Doo Doom Chit’ were just completely slept on. Also I love reading comments like ‘oh their dances are always so easy’. They’re easy to pick up but not easy to do like have you tried dancing to ‘Bar Bar Bar’ whilst looking as flawless as them?

I’m really sad that Soyul left and that all the girls have left Chrome but hopefully they will reunite to release something new soon. I’d love it if they could continue as a four member group but I’ll continue to support their solo activities as long as the girls are happy.

Favourite song: Doo Doom Chit

2. Mamamoo

Mamamoo gif.gif

Mamamoo were another group I couldn’t stand when I first listened to them. I didn’t understand why everyone was hyping them up so much, I just didn’t like their songs. Until I ended up watching the same funny moments collage and ended up loving the girls personally. I gave their music another chance and ended up really liking them in the end. Even now I need to give their songs a few listens before I fully love them.

I do understand why people dislike Mamamoo like they have done some problematic stuff but ultimately you can still love someone whilst accepting that they’re not perfect. Personally I think they’re very caring of their fans and that’s all I can ask for. I don’t think any of them deliberately set out to offend or upset people. I’m not going to delve too deep into that though.

Mamamoo are insanely talented when it comes to singing, if I had half their talent maybe I’d be able to achieve something with my life. If you haven’t given them a listen I would recommend it because they’re such good singers and their songs are a lot of fun!

1. Girls’ Generation

Girls Generation gif.gif

How can you not love the nation’s number one girl group? They’ve been around for ten years now and they’re still slaying. Although I was a bit disappointed with ‘All Night’ and ‘Holiday’ I still love them – it’s not that the songs were bad because they weren’t, I liked them but I would’ve preferred them if they weren’t 10th anniversary songs. They didn’t seem to have much meaning to what was actually quite a huge achievement. They’ve made it ten years and they got poor promotions for generic songs.

Girls’ Generation were another group I didn’t like at first listen because I wasn’t a fan of ‘I Got A Boy’. K-Pop still kind of blows my mind because I’m used to growing up listening to a group and having all their songs sound similar, you know? So it was strange getting into K-Pop and realising that just because I didn’t like this song by a certain group didn’t mean I wouldn’t like their other songs because often they change concepts and sounds with each new comeback. With Girls’ Generation ‘I Got A Boy’ is completely different to ‘Gee’ isn’t it?

So eventually ‘I Got A Boy’ grew on me so I decided to listen to more stuff and that’s when I realised what a range of concepts Girls’ Generation had spanned across. It took me a few listens but I soon got used to the changing concepts and now I love most of their songs. The only title track I’m not a fan of was ‘Genie’ because that leg dance move is so annoying. But their songs are so good, especially ‘The Boys’, ‘Flower Power’ and ‘Love & Girls’.

For a long time I wouldn’t have classed Girls’ Generation as my favourite group but after their tenth anniversary comeback I know they are. I love all the girls so much, including Jessica even though I didn’t become a fan until she’d left. I’ll fully support any solo activity they do now and in the future.

I’m sad to hear that Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun have decided not to renew their contracts with SM. I’m not surprised about Sooyoung as I don’t think SM appreciated her enough but Tiffany and Seohyun have surprised me. I hope the girls still continue as Girls’ Generation for a while longer somehow, I’d hate for them to disband now – I need to see them live first!

Ten K-Pop Songs I Loved At First Listen

2NE1 3.jpg

I’ve seen a lot of compilations on YouTube of ‘K-Pop songs I loved at first listen’ and I don’t have the patience to make a YouTube video anymore because I only have MovieMaker which keeps freezing every twenty seconds so I thought it’d be a lot quicker to just write a list. So here are the top ten K-Pop songs I loved at first listen!

10. 2Eyes – Pippi

2Eyes Pippi Gif.gif

I’m not as big of a fan of this song anymore because I’ve listened to it one too many times but when I first heard it I had it on repeat for the rest of the night. I watched the dance practice video over and over again and for a few hours, this song was literally my shit. I listened to some other 2Eyes songs and I wasn’t as impressed with them as I was with ‘Pippi’. I don’t listen to it much anymore but I still think it’s a great song.

9. SISTAR – Lonely

SISTAR Lonely gif.gif

I could’ve also put ‘I Like That’ for Sistar because I had that on repeat when it first came out but ‘Lonely’ has a special place in my heart as it was the last song they released as a group before they disbanded. I was a casual fan and the moment I started listening to more of their music and decided to stan them they went and disbanded! When they released ‘Lonely’ I fell in love not only with the song but with the music video which is probably one of my favourites. I was getting ready to go out with friends when I first heard it and I listened to it on repeat until they arrived. It’s definitely still my favourite Sistar song.

8. AOA – Excuse Me

AOA Excuse Me gif.gif

I did not like AOA when I first heard them. That’s because the song I chose to listen to was ‘Heart Attack’ which is a song I still cannot stand, no matter how much I now love AOA. However I liked their ‘Good Luck’ comeback so I listened to more songs like ‘Like a Cat’ and ‘Miniskirt’ and soon I started to like them. But I absolutely loved ‘Excuse Me’, everyone else seemed to prefer ‘Bing Bing’ or not like their comeback at all but I had ‘Excuse Me’ on repeat for ages the day it came out. It’s another one that I’ve listened to so many times that I’ve gone off it but I still think it’s one of their best comebacks yet.

7. CocoSori – Dark Circle

CocoSori Dark Circle gif.gif

‘Dark Circle’ is CocoSori’s debut song and I loved it from the moment I first listened to it. I also loved their second song ‘Exquisite’ and for a while that was my favourite song but I think I prefer ‘Dark Circle’ that little bit more. The music video’s a little weird but I love it, it’s another one of my favourites and the song is brilliant too. CocoSori need more viewers so give them a watch!

6. Red Velvet – Dumb Dumb

Red Velvet Dumb Dumb gif.gif

For the last three Red Velvet comebacks I haven’t liked them after the first listen. I have to listen to them a few times until they grow on me and I start to love them. But ‘Dumb Dumb’ was definitely a one listen and I was sold. Although I prefer ‘Russian Roulette’ as a song, I hated it the first time I listened to it. However ‘Dumb Dumb’ has always been a jam ever since the first listen. It’s really catchy, I recommend giving it a listen!

5. Oh My Girl – Liar Liar

Oh My Girl Liar Liar gif.gif

‘Liar Liar’ was the first song I ever heard by Oh My Girl and it only took one listen for me to love them. Their other songs took a few listens until I became a fan but ‘Liar Liar’ had me hooked when I first heard it. It’s another catchy song that easily gets stuck in your head. I’m also a big fan of the music video – as I’ve previously said, Oh My Girl’s music videos are aesthetic goals. Although my favourite music video is ‘Closer’, ‘Liar Liar’ will probably always be my favourite song.

4. BTS – Mic Drop

BTS Mic Drop gif.gif

I also could’ve picked ‘Fire’ for BTS because that was a jam right from the start (I need to stop describing every song as a ‘jam’ it’s not ironic or funny I’m just lame) but I went for ‘Mic Drop’ because I didn’t particularly like ‘DNA’ when I saw the music video and I was a bit worried I was starting to go off BTS. Then I listened to ‘Mic Drop’ which confirmed that yes, I am still complete and utter trash. I’m convinced the whole album is worth buying just because of this one song, I love it that much. I first heard it only a few nights ago and I didn’t want to listen to any other song for the next couple of hours. BTS are honestly still my shit.

3. G-Friend – Fingertip

GFriend Fingertip gif.gif

G-Friend have always slayed my existence but it took me a few listens to get into ‘Rough’ and ‘Navillera’. I liked ‘Me Gustas Tu’ at my first listen but I didn’t particularly love it. Then they released ‘Fingertip’ and I was blown away, it’s so different to their other comebacks and I loved it. It’s one of those songs that I’ve listened to again and again and again and I’m still not bored of it. I think this song will always be my favourite of G-Friend’s just because I wasn’t expecting them to release something like this and it’s a jam (I’m sorry)!

2. Strawberry Milk – OK

Strawberry Milk OK gif.gif

I’d heard Crayon Pop were having a sub-unit for a while but to be honest I wasn’t particularly sure what a sub-unit was or what the point was until I watched Strawberry Milk’s ‘OK’ music video. I remember listening to it the day I left for ‘Asylum 13’ and I listened to it the whole way there on the train and between each panel I’d head back up to my hotel room to listen to this song. I honestly loved it so much and it’s still catchy as fuck, and one of my favourite choreographies to do. Listen, I love this song so much that I was going to cosplay as a Strawberry Milk member for London Comic Con. The only thing that stopped me was lack of money.

1. Dreamcatcher – Chase Me

Dreamcatcher Chase Me gif.gif

A lot of people were talking about Dreamcatcher’s debut and I wasn’t sure what to expect but I absolutely loved it. When I was a teenager I listened to nothing but rock music so to change to K-Pop was quite weird but this song took me back and I fell in love with it. It’s like a mixture of my old taste in music combined with my new taste in music and I love it. It’s also another music video that is aesthetic goals as fuck. Also this choreography always blows me away whenever I watch it. I had this song on repeat for hours after I first listened to it and there weren’t any other Dreamcatcher songs to listen to at the time so this was the only thing I had! I’m so glad they’ve released more music still then and I’ve still got my fingers crossed that they’ll come to the UK.

Top 10 Underrated K-Pop Group Recommendations

GP Basic.jpg

I’ve been procrastinating so many blog posts that I wanted to write so I decided to write about something I really like in the hopes that I’ll start to feel more inspired to update. I haven’t written a review in what feels like forever but for now I’m going to be recommending 10 K-Pop groups you should listen to! These aren’t necessarily my favourite groups as I’ll be leaving out some of the more famous groups.

10. ASTRO

Astro 12.jpg

I first discovered ASTRO when my friend slept over at mine and we were too tired to actually do anything so we scrolled through Netflix to see if there was anything interesting on. In the end we found the K-Drama ‘To Be Continued’ and that’s how we first discovered ASTRO. I’ve been low-key trash ever since.

They have an innocent concept and their songs are usually quite chill but I’m not normally a fan of but ASTRO have some brilliant songs. Also all the members just seem so sweet and lovely and it’s so easy to fall in love with all of them. Plus their visuals are no joke. I just recommend them so hard.

Favourite song: Hide & Seek
Bias: Moonbin

9. Dreamcatcher

Dreamcatcher.png

Dreamcatcher were originally a girl group called Minx but they redebuted with two new members earlier this year as Dreamcatcher. They debuted with the song ‘Chase Me’ and when I first heard it I had it on repeat for like three hours. They have a dark concept and it just really works. Their music videos are so interesting and their dancing is no joke either.

There’s talk of them coming to Europe at some point to tour and I am praying they come to England because I’d love to see them live. They’re so talented and their songs are brilliant, 100% recommend.

Favourite song: Fly High
Bias: Yoohyeon

8. CocoSori

CocoSori 2.jpg

Not many people mention CocoSori, which isn’t surprising as their debut video only has about 500,000 views and their second song has even less. And I get why, they are a little weird. Their debut song ‘Dark Circle’ does feature a large man dressed as a piece of broccoli. But the song’s still good! Right now they only have two songs but they’ve recently started a fundraiser so they can have another comeback and I really hope they raise enough!

I just love that CocoSori don’t take themselves too seriously and their songs and music videos are just really fun! Yes, they’re a little strange but they’re also different and I love them. I definitely recommend giving them a try.

Favourite song: Dark Circle
Bias: Sori

7. Block B

Block B.jpg

I wasn’t particularly a big fan of Block B until last year when I saw them at K-Con Paris. I didn’t know their songs that well but I kind of knew them from my friends playing them while I was around. They honestly had one of the best sets at K-Con, they were so lit and even though I barely knew them I was having the best time ever watching them. So when they announced they were coming to London me and my friend Becca made sure we had tickets – even though they were super expensive it was absolutely worth it.

They’re another group whose songs are just upbeat and fun to listen to. I think I love them even more after seeing them live twice; they have such great energy and know how to get everyone pumped. You have to give them a listen at least once.

Favourite song: Very Good
Bias: Kyung

6. Oh My Girl

Oh My Girl 2.jpg

I was a casual fan of Oh My Girl but now I suddenly love them so much. Their music videos are such aesthetic goals and they’re all so talented. They’re one group that I would love to see live but the chances of that happening are slim. They’re also all so pretty – if I could look like anyone I would absolutely pick YooA she’s honestly beautiful.

Oh My Girl change concepts for every comeback and I love each one. My favourite song keeps changing all the time because they’re all so different and I love all of them.

Favourite song: Liar Liar
Bias: Hyojung

5. Sonamoo

Sonamoo 2.png

To be honest I don’t really know much about Sonamoo but I checked out their song Déjà vu a while ago and loved it. I was a bit disappointed to hear they’d changed sounds and I wasn’t a big fan of their other songs but I soon started to love them, especially ‘Like U Too Much’. They’re another group whose dancing skills aren’t to be messed with.

They recently had a comeback with their song ‘Friday Night’ which I recommend!

Favourite song: Déjà vu
Bias: Nahyun

4. Matilda

Matilda.png

Matilda are another group that I don’t know a great deal about but I came across one of their songs and really enjoyed it! They’re another group that are extremely talented but are constantly slept on. I don’t know that many songs by them but I will definitely be checking out more of them, they’re so good!

Favourite song: Summer Again
Bias: Haena

3. EXID

EXID 2.jpg

I love EXID so much. The first song I heard about them was ‘Up & Down’ which let’s face it, is an iconic jam. I started listening to more of their songs and was lucky enough to see them at the ‘London Korean Festival’ earlier this year and they were absolutely brilliant. They have some brilliant songs and I could jam out to all of them.

This is another one of those groups where my favourite member and song keeps changing because they’re all so lovely and all their songs are brilliant. You’ll see what I mean if you gave them a listen!

Favourite song: Lie
Bias: LE

2. G-Friend

G-Friend.jpg

G-Friend are rising in popularity and it’s definitely well deserved! All six of them are so talented, especially at dancing – their choreographies are so amazing, their dance practice videos are definitely my favourite ones to watch of any group ever. They haven’t had a comeback yet that I disliked.

All the members are so sweet and talented and they’re just such an easy to stan group. They’re another group that I’d really love to see live if given the opportunity because they’re such amazing performers and I know they’d be brilliant. Here’s hoping they come to Europe one day!

Favourite song: Fingertip
Bias: Umji

1. 24K

24K 7.jpg

It’s no secret that I love 24K, okay? I have been trash ever since they come to London in January and ruined my life. But they are so talented and nice to their fans yet they keep getting slept on! They’re one of the few K-Pop groups who show Europe love regularly and I appreciate them so damn much for it.

I really can’t recommend 24K enough, watch literally any of their music videos because they deserve all the views they can get. You honestly won’t regret it, they’re so talented and I could go on about them all day but I won’t so just watch one of their music videos!

Favourite song: Hey You
Bias: Cory

This list was a mess and didn’t particularly make much sense but that applies to most of my posts, let’s be real.
