Favourite Memories from 2017

I originally wrote a sort of ‘thank you’ note for 2017 but it was lame so instead I decided to write about my highlights from 2017. I’m sure I’ll accidentally miss some stuff out but here are my current favourites!

21st Birthday

On 30th September 2017 I turned 21 and I had a really nice day. I didn’t do anything particularly special because the weekend before I’d been to London and the weekend after I was going to Luxembourg so I had a pretty chill day. My friends came over to give me my presents (which they nailed by the way) and then they gave me my cake. I know I’ve already posted a photo of it but it was the funniest thing ever and I wasn’t expecting it.

Birthday Cake.jpg

We went for a meal, went bowling and then played in the arcade and I had a ton of fun. Then in the evening I went out for a meal with my family. So nothing too special but I had a really nice, chill day and I enjoyed every second of it so thank you to everyone who made my birthday so good.

Birthday Trip to London

I mentioned I was in London the weekend before my birthday and that was a trip I had been planning for absolutely months. I love going to see shows so I decided to book a weekend in London where I saw five shows. It took months of planning, I started booking the theatre tickets in like February and planned everything to the last detail. I got myself first class tickets for the train and booked a slightly more expensive hotel than my usual budget hotels. And honestly, I had the best time ever.

I watched ‘Annie’, ‘Aladdin’, ‘Dream Girls’, ‘School of Rock’ and ‘The Comedy About A Bank Robbery’ and they were all brilliant. The hotel I stayed at was hub by Premier Inn London Westminster Abbey and I honestly can’t recommend it enough, the bed was so comfy, I had the best few nights sleep ever and the shower was brilliant. I was so sad when that weekend end because I’d honestly had the best time ever, I love going to London so much.

Luxembourg for Jess’ 21st Birthday

I also mentioned I was in Luxembourg the weekend after my birthday. Two of my best friends Becca and Jess have very close birthdays to me – Jess was born a week after and Becca is two days after Jess’ birthday. For my 20th birthday the girls made a big fuss of me – they told me they were too busy to hang out and then surprised me with a trip to Harry Potter studios (which we vlogged – [x]) so this year we decided to make a big fuss of Jess.

You have no idea how hard it was for me, Becca and Hirst to plan something – planning this nearly ruined our friendship! After many fall-outs, arguments and failed attempts to sort something we eventually booked flights to Luxembourg. It had reached that point where we were so happy to agree on something that we were all a bit giddy, I for one was peeing myself with laughter because I’d never even heard of Luxembourg. We also vlogged this trip and I recommend watching part one just for the reveal when we tell Jess we’re going away for her birthday because it was flawless, we will never top that in our lives [x].

Luxembourg 2.jpg

We were only there one night and we were exhausted for most of it since we had to catch the plane at stupid o’clock in the morning but it’s a beautiful country and I had a brilliant time. I hope Jess enjoyed her birthday because I know I did.

Meeting 24K in Amsterdam

I would’ve put just ‘Amsterdam’ in general but to be honest it wasn’t the best trip ever. I went with Hirst, Becca and Jess and we were all low-key mad at each other the entire time and I had a really crap time on the last night we were there to the point where I sat in the room I shared with Hirst by myself and cried. However Amsterdam is a lovely place and there were some good highlights from the trip – my favourite being meeting 24K for the first time.

Me + Becca.jpg

We only went to Amsterdam so me and Becca could see 24K, that was the only reason the trip was planned. We bought VIP tickets and on the day we were both extremely nervous. Becca is probably my favourite person to go to concerts with because she freaks out just as much as I do and she always makes me laugh so much, therefore keeping me that little bit calmer. Now we had to go up in queues to do the hi-touch then we’d go back round to do the photograph. Me and Becca realised Cory and Kisu were stood next to each other and they’re our biases so we plotted and schemed in the hopes we could be in front of them.

24K Meet and Greet

We were both like “Let’s ask to do a heart” and I did look up to ask but then I was like ‘um nope’ and didn’t because I was too nervous. Bear in mind the meet and greet lasts like a minute, if that, but me and Becca talked about it for ages after the concert had ended. 24K were all really nice and we had the best time ever to be honest. I hope 24K come back soon because Becca didn’t come to the fan meet with me and I wanna meet them again with her. We saw 24K for the first time in January and after that we became absolute trash.

Block B

Speaking of fun concerts with Becca we both went to see Block B in London back in March and although the tickets cost an absolute fortune it was worth it. We had one of the most basic ticket types but it didn’t matter, I couldn’t have afforded those fancy VIP tickets we’d already spent £100 each on ours. Also the venue was not great, I’m just gonna put it out there I feel like MyMusicTaste book the weirdest and most random venues like can you maybe do some research beforehand? Like I appreciate that you bring these groups to Europe but like…

Anyway, I’m getting off topic! The concert was amazing, Block B were so lit but the highlight had to be during the encore. Me and Becca had been given some signs to wave so we did – now at every concert we go to me and Becca always try to get a wave off one of the members. So one member, I didn’t know his name at the time, looked in our direction so I started waving and Becca did too AND HE WAVED BACK. It was quite funny ‘cos for me it was like time had stopped so I kept waving but Becca freaked out, grabbed my shoulders and was going “Hollie! Hollie!” whilst he was still looking and waving at us. The moment he walked off I turned to Becca in a daze and went “So which one was that?” It was Kyung who’s now my bias.

Me + Becca 2.jpg

I thought I was happy about the wave but it was nothing compared to Becca’s excitement. One thing that Becca hates is dabbing but that night she was so happy that when I asked her to dab she immediately did it. She also fangirled so hard she fell off the bed. What an amazing night.

On Becca’s birthday we were given a joint birthday present from Jess and Hirst – they were surprising us with a trip abroad but we weren’t allowed to know until we got to the airport because we hadn’t let Jess know before we got to the airport either. I was very nervous about getting on a plane again especially as everyone was being vague about the flight time but I knew it’d be worth it to have a good time with my friends. And we did have a good time, it’s one of my favourite trips I’ve been on.

Lithuania 3.jpg

What I love about my friends is they can make me excited to go somewhere I’ve never expressed an interest in before. Like when I was a teenager I wasn’t that fussed about exploring Europe, I wanted to go somewhere further away but now I’ll happily go anywhere and be really hyped about it. So when we got to the airport and I found out it was Lithuania I was excited – even though I’d never heard of it before.

Lithuania 4.jpg

We had a brilliant time, my favourites included the Museum of Illusions and the cat café. Unfortunately Jess got extremely sick on the Sunday (we all blame the pumpkin ravioli, thanks a lot vegan Becca) so she couldn’t come out but other than that we had a good time. Although I’d never heard of it or considered going before Lithuania is actually one of my favourite places I’ve ever been to and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Tulley’s Farm

Becca had been on about us going to Tulley’s for a couple of years but we’d never really gotten round to doing it. This year she pushed for us to go so in the end me, Becca and Jess booked the tickets, booked train tickets and a hotel and before we knew it we were off.

Tulley's Farm.jpg

I kind of booked this without really thinking about it and when I got there I was a little worried about what to expect but it was so funny. I already wrote a really detailed post on this [x] so if you want more info give that a read but it was so fun, I had a great time and I’d love to go again this year assuming the three of us aren’t too broke after our trip to Japan and South Korea.

New York

I finally went outside of Europe! My entire life I have only ever been to a different country within Europe but finally at 21 years old I went outside of Europe. Me and my Mum went to New York as my 21st birthday present and we had a brilliant time. My Mum had already been to New York once but she was happy to do all the tourist stuff with me all over again. I also finally saw my first Broadway show which was Anastasia and I loved every minute of it.

Me + Mum New York.jpg

Big shout out to my Mom for what was the best birthday present ever and for just genuinely being the best Mom in the world. My highlights from the trip were seeing Anastasia, proper American pancakes, top of the Rockefeller Centre and Times Square. It was an amazing trip and I’d love to visit more parts of America in the future.

24K London Fan Meet

We all knew this was gonna be on here, let’s be real. This was my favourite moment from 2017. In fact it’s probably my favourite moment from my entire life. Those 3 minutes were truly amazing to be honest. I wrote a whole post about it here [x] in way more detail than anyone has ever asked for but I’m gonna talk about it some more because nothing better will ever happen to me in my entire life.

Me on stage 24K 3

I’m still in shock to be completely honest like if there wasn’t photo evidence I might’ve thought I’d made the entire thing up. A girl that went to the fan meet recorded the audio (I don’t wanna get her in trouble cos like I dunno if she was allowed) and very kindly posted it in the 24K group I’m a part of. Whenever I’m feeling down I listen to the audio and play the part where they call me on stage again. I’m not over it and I doubt I ever will be to be perfectly honest. If by some miracle 24K are reading this (which they’re not) thanks so much for everything – it was the best night of my life and I’ll never forget it. Thank you.

Me, Hirst + Becca.jpg

So there you go, my favourite memories from 2017! I’m going to post what I’m looking forward to in 2018 soon and I’m sure 2018 will be just as good of a year as 2017. Massive shout-out to everyone who helped me have such a fab year, especially to Hirst, Becca, Jess J and my Mum. You guys are the best, I don’t know what I’d do without you.

Top 30 2017 K-Pop Songs

BTS 2.jpg

Before I start I wanna make it clear that as with all other posts this is just my opinion! I’m pretty sure there are tons of debuts and comebacks that I missed this year so I may at some point change my mind about this list but right now, I wanted to make a quick list of my top thirty favourite K-Pop songs from 2017. This could include comebacks, debuts or solo releases. This list was originally only supposed to have twenty songs but there were so many good songs this year that I had to extend the list to thirty!

Any artist listed won’t be included again with any other songs they had this year.

30. Momoland – Freeze

Momoland Freeze gif

This song is really cute and I like the music video for it. Momoland are all really talented but unfortunately pretty underrated. I did enjoy this song but it wasn’t one of my favourites this year. I still recommend giving it a listen though!

29. Winner – Really Really

Winner Really Really gif.gif

I wasn’t really a big fan of this song when I first heard it but after listening to a cover of the song by ‘Dreamcatcher’ I realised that actually it’s brilliant. I do low-key feel like Winner got robbed of the Song of the Year award because this song was extremely popular. Although it wasn’t one of my favourites this year I did like it and I hope Winner continue to rise in popularity!

28. CLC – Hobgoblin

CLC Hobgoblin gif

This song was amazing, I hadn’t listened to much CLC beforehand but I am a fan of ‘High Heels’ and ‘Oh No No’. I’m sad that most fans dropped CLC after the hype of ‘Hobgoblin’ but to be fair although I’m a fan of some of CLC’s older songs I did think ‘Where Are You’ was pretty boring and probably wasn’t the best move by Cube after the success of ‘Hobgoblin’. Either way this song was great and brought some well-deserved attention to CLC.

27. Weki Meki – I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend

Weki Meki I Dont Like Your Girlfriend gif.gif

I hated this song when I first heard it, I thought it was really annoying. But after a few listens the song did grow on me. I wouldn’t say it was one of my favourites or anything but I am looking forward to seeing what Weki Meki release in 2018. I hope they can continue to do well!

26. Cosmic Girls – I Wish

Cosmic Girls I Wish gif.gif

For a while I really couldn’t get into Cosmic Girls. I thought their music videos were so aesthetically pleasing and I liked the idea of them but I wasn’t a big fan of their songs until eventually I started liking ‘Happy’ which lead me to start liking ‘Secret’ and ‘I Wish’. Although ‘Secret’ is probably my favourite I still think ‘I Wish’ is brilliant with such a pretty music video. Cosmic Girls are great, they deserve more views!

25. Hyuna – Lip & Hip

Hyuna Lip & Hip gif.gif

I wasn’t particularly a big fan of ‘Babe’ but I do love Hyuna so when she released ‘Lip & Hip’ I gave it a listen. It’s such a good song! And I love the music video, I don’t care what anyone says. This song was lit and now I’m willing to give ‘Babe’ another chance.

24. Girls’ Generation – Holiday

Girls Generation Holiday gif.gif

It was the comeback I’d been waiting for, I was counting down the days until their ten year anniversary so I could finally hear something new from my favourite group. Although I loved both ‘Holiday’ and ‘All Night’ I’m a bit disappointed that there wasn’t particularly any meaning behind the two songs to celebrate ten years of them being together. ‘Sailing’ was a nine year anniversary song and it held so much meaning. I’m not saying it had to be slow but I don’t see the point in either of the songs like they’re great as just songs but ten year anniversary songs? Anyway I’m getting a bit salty. Either way I’m glad my girls finally came back this year.

23. NCT 127 – Cherry Bomb

NCT 127 Cherry Bomb gif.gif

I’m not a massive fan of NCT, mainly because I’m not a fan of the amount of members and units and I just find the whole thing a bit confusing so I don’t really want to get invested in them personally. I gave this song one listen and didn’t particularly like it until my friend sang it nonstop on a trip we went on. I came home and had it on repeat for ages because it’s actually a pretty decent song. It hasn’t quite convinced me to get more invested in NCT but I can’t deny it’s catchy.

22. EXID – DDD

Exid DDD gif.gif

Although I’m sad that Solji isn’t currently promoting with EXID I can’t deny that this song was good. Although I thought this was good and ‘Night Rather Than Day’ was good I still can’t help but feel like EXID have lost something. Like I feel like ‘Up & Down’, ‘Ah Yeah’, ‘Hot Pink’ and ‘Lie’ are all so iconic but their releases this year have been relatively average for EXID. I still love EXID and will continue to support them in the future and although I loved their releases this year I can’t help but feel slightly disappointed. ‘DDD’ is still a great song though.

21. iKON – B-Day

iKON BDay gif.gif

I’m not particularly a massive iKON fan but this song was really good! I’m not really invested in iKON personally but I can’t deny that their songs are always so catchy and fun! They’re another group I’d love to see live one day because I bet it’d be a lot of fun. This song was great along with ‘Bling Bling’ so if you haven’t checked them out I really recommend it!

20. IOI – Downpour

IOI Downpour gif.gif

I’ll admit it, I cried whilst watching the music video for the first time. They were doing so well together and I loved them so much as a group, why did they have to disband? I hope they do some kind of reunion at some point to perform because I miss them and it hasn’t even been a year yet. I know they’re doing well whether that be returning to their old groups, debuting in a new group, going solo etc. but I still miss them! ‘Downpour’ was so good and I wept so much, if you haven’t listened to it then you’re missing out.

19. Block B – Yesterday

Block B gif

I became a fan of Block B when I saw them at ‘K-Con Paris’ last year – I wasn’t a big fan at the time but their set was so lit and they were probably the most fun group to see live. I was very happy when they announced a European tour earlier this year. Me and Becca went and had the best time ever – especially when Kyung waved at us! This song was released just before the concert and I love it. If you haven’t listened to Block B then you’re really missing out.

18. Black Pink – As If It’s Your Last

Black Pink As If Its Your Last gif.gif

Can you imagine how well Black Pink would do if they actually had regular and decent promotions? The girls are already amazingly popular so if they were promoting regularly they could easily do well. But unfortunately YG only gave them one comeback this year for some reason? I’m salty but whatever. I did love ‘As If It’s Your Last’ but I still think compared to their debut songs it wasn’t as good. I can’t wait to see what else they release though!

17. HALO – Here I Am

I heard of HALO because they announced a Europe tour and I’m tempted to go and see them, assuming I have enough money. Before I made up my mind I decided to listen to some of their songs. To be honest with you I’ve only listened to ‘Here I Am’ so far but it’s brilliant! I really hope I can go and see them next year, they’re a brilliant group and I highly recommend them.

16. Oh My Girl – Colouring Book

Oh My Girl Colouring Book gif.gif

I couldn’t stand Oh My Girl for a while but now I love them! Although I think some of their older songs like ‘Liar Liar’ and ‘Closer’ are better, I still think ‘Colouring Book’ is great. I’m sad that JinE had to leave but completely understand, it was definitely the right decision and I hope she starts to recover. I’ll continue to support the girls as a seven member group because I know they’ll continue to do well – I’m looking forward to their comeback in January!

15. Sistar – Lonely

SISTAR Lonely gif

This is another song released just before the group disbanded that made me want to cry. I’d just become a big fan of Sistar when they announced their disbandment, how cruel is that? The music video for ‘Lonely’ is probably one of my favourites and the whole song is definitely one of my favourites this year. I’ll miss you Sistar!

14. Good Day – Rolly

Good Day Rolly gif

I love this song! It’s so cute and puts me in a good mood. I also love the girls’ sparkly outfits. There’s nothing about this song that I don’t love. ‘Good Day’ aren’t that popular but they’re really talented and I recommend giving them a listen!

13. Pristin – We Like

Pristin We Like gif.gif

I didn’t like ‘Wee Woo’ when it was first released but after trying it a few times it grew on me and I ended up quite liking Pristin. When ‘We Like’ was released I didn’t like that either at first listen but by the second listen it had grown on me a lot. It’s so catchy and just really a fun song! I’m looking forward to seeing what Pristin release in the future, their songs are so catchy and I love them.

12. MiSO – KKPP

MiSo KKPP gif.gif

I’m quite a new fan of MiSO but she has some good songs. She’s the maknae of girl group ‘Girls Girls’ and she made her solo debut earlier this year. I first listened to ‘Pink Lady’ which I thought was really good then ‘KKPP’ which was even better! It’s a shame she’s from such a small company because she’s really talented and I’ll definitely be looking out for her work in the future.

11. Jessi – Gucci

Jessi Gucci gif

Jessi is honestly so good, I think her voice is absolutely amazing and ‘Gucci’ is now one of my favourite songs. I liked some of her other songs like ‘Ssenunni’ and ‘Unpretty Dreams’ but ‘Gucci’ absolutely blew them away, I thought it was so good. Definitely one of my favourite comebacks this year!

10. Hyoyeon – Wannabe

Hyoyeon Wannabe gif

I’m so glad my girl Hyoyeon is finally releasing solo music and proving to everyone that yes, she can sing despite everyone claiming she couldn’t and that she was only in Girls’ Generation because she’s a talented dancer. Hyoyeon can do both, believe it or not! Although I did like ‘Mystery’ I found it was a bit repetitive and didn’t really showcase Hyo’s talent. ‘Wannabe’ was perfect though, I wouldn’t change a thing about it. I hope she releases more solo stuff in the future because she’s brilliant!

9. BTS – Not Today

BTS Not Today gif.gif

When ‘Spring Day’ was released I was a little disappointed. I love that song now but I didn’t like it at the time because I’m not usually a fan of slower songs. So I was really happy when they dropped the music video for ‘Not Today’ because it was so my taste in music. I loved everything about it, especially the choreography. I’m glad BTS are doing so well but I hope they get chance to rest, I’m low-key stressed about them. Either way I’m looking forward to seeing what they release in the future and I’m still hoping they’ll do their own show in Europe someday but I won’t hold my breath.

8. TWICE – Heart Shaker

TWICE Heart Shaker gif.gif

TWICE were on the first draft of this list but a lot lower down with ‘Knock Knock’ because I did love that song. I wasn’t as big of a fan of ‘Signal’ so that wouldn’t have been included. Then they released ‘Heart Shaker’ and they were immediately bumped up the list. I don’t know what it is about that song but I love it so much. I can’t stop listening to it! I hope TWICE continue to do well in 2018!

7. Mamamoo – Aze Gag (Dad Jokes)

Mamamoo Aze Gag gif.gif

To be honest when I first saw the teasers for this song I wasn’t impressed – I didn’t think it looked that great. When it was dropped I actually really liked it and it quickly became one of my favourite Mamamoo songs. I wasn’t as big of a fan of ‘Yes I Am’ which was the song I thought I’d prefer. I can’t wait to see what Mamamoo release in the new year!

6. 24K – Only You

24K Only You gif

This comeback was amazing and I don’t care what anybody says. I love 24K so much! This was a bit different to their other comebacks like ‘Bingo’ or ‘Superfly’ but it was still just as good. Please listen to 24K if you haven’t already, they’re so good and so lovely and I could talk about them all day so just give them a try! I hope they come back to Europe soon, I know they’re going to America next year but I really need to see my boys again soon even though I’ve already seen them three times this year. Am I being greedy or…?

5. Dreamcatcher – Fly High

Dreamcatcher Fly High gif

I think Dreamcatcher are amazing, I love their unique songs and they’re so talented at dancing. I’ve loved all their releases this year but I think ‘Fly High’ is definitely my favourite. I can’t wait to see what Dreamcatcher release next year. It’s been officially announced that Dreamcatcher are doing a Europe tour next year which will include London! Tickets go on sale in the New Year and I hope I get one! I haven’t seen many girl groups live compared to boy groups so I’d love to see Dreamcatcher.

4. AOA – Excuse Me

AOA Excuse Me gif

I kept reading that AOA had completely ‘flopped’ with this comeback and everyone was saying it sucked and I really don’t understand? It was my favourite comeback of theirs so far, I loved everything about it! I had it on repeat from the moment I first listened to it and I still love it. Why does everyone else seem to dislike it? Most people said they preferred ‘Bing Bing’ and while I also loved that, I still thought that ‘Excuse Me’ was so much better. I’m sad Choa left but I hope AOA continue to promote, I’ll be devastated if they split up!

3. Red Velvet – Peek-A-Boo

Red Velvet Peek-A-Boo gif.gif

Red Velvet have had a few comebacks this year and whilst I enjoyed ‘Rookie’ and ‘Red Flavour’ so one of them would’ve made the list, they would’ve been quite a bit further down. Until they released ‘Peek a Boo’ and I was absolutely slayed. It surprised me because I’m not normally a fan of this type of song but I’ve had it on repeat since its release. I’m a little salty it was released mid-November when it would’ve been so much better to release around Halloween, it’s the perfect Halloween song but whatever. I was a bit worried I was going off Red Velvet but nope, they’ve brought me back in again.

2. Girl’s Day – I’ll Be Yours

Girls Day I'll Be Yours gif.gif

When I first heard this I hadn’t even realised it was a new release. I don’t know much about Girl’s Day but I assumed it had been out a while and I’d only just got round to finding it. I only know a couple of Girl’s Day songs and those are ‘Ring My Bell’ and ‘Something’ both of which I liked but didn’t particularly love. ‘I’ll Be Yours’ was amazing though, I loved everything about it. I haven’t seen the music video so I can’t comment on that but I love the song so much, I feel like I need to listen to more Girl’s Day now and I can’t wait to see what else they release because I honestly thought this song was brilliant.

1. G-Friend – Fingertip

GFriend Fingertip gif

I love G-Friend so much but you can’t deny that they have a particular sound which makes the majority of their songs sound very similar. That’s probably why I was so impressed when they released ‘Fingertip’. It’s quite funny because all the people who moaned about their songs sounding too similar moaned that this one sounded too different! Like what do you guys actually want? ‘Fingertip’ is so good and I was actually a little disappointed when they released ‘Love Whisper’ because I thought it sounded very similar to ‘Glass Bead’ which was my least favourite song by them.

Either way I love ‘Fingertip’ so much and I hope they release more songs like that in the future!

Let me know what your favourite releases this year were and whether you think I missed out on any absolutely great comebacks or debuts. I can’t wait to see what my favourite groups come out with in 2018 and here’s hoping some of them actually come to Europe so I can see them live!

Christmas Tag

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!I wanted to write as many Christmas themed blog posts as possible so I thought it’d be fun to do a Christmas tag. I’ve chosen one created by another blogger, here’s a link to their website [x] – so here goes nothing!

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?

The Snowman gif

It has to be ‘The Snowman’ even though it makes me weep every year. ‘Home Alone’ is a close second because that’s a classic and it’s hilarious but I love pretty much everything about ‘The Snowman’. I wanna buy the book even though it’s for kids and I also saw the stage show last year which was incredible. I need to see it again next year because I literally can’t afford it this year but next year, I am going to make sure I see it!

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I don’t think so but to be honest I’m not too fussed about having a white Christmas. I don’t like snow and I don’t particularly leave the house much on Christmas Day anyway so like what’s the point?

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?

Either my Mom’s house or my Dad’s. I tend to go wherever there’s more people. So this year I’m going to my Dad’s ‘cos my two step-sisters, my step-sister’s boyfriend, my nephew, my step-mom and my Dad will be there so me and my brother are going over to join them. Last year I stayed at Mom’s and it was nice but I do like to get as far away from my step-dad as possible during the holidays because he ruins everything.

4. What is your favourite Christmas song?

TTS Dear Santa gif.gif

Oh man I have a few! My favourite is probably ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ by Wizzard, I used to love singing that song in choir at school. My favourite modern Christmas song is probably ‘Dear Santa’ by Girls’ Generation’s TTS – the beginning’s a little boring but it gets more interesting by the chorus. There’s also a song that the choir used to sing every year at our local church which I love, it’s called ‘My True Love Gave to me (What to do with the Presents)’. It’s a bit of a parody of the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ and I love it.

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

I never used to but last year my Mom made me open one which was a pair of Christmas pyjamas, I already talked about this in a previous post. We’ve continued the tradition and I have opened a pair of Christmas pyjamas earlier this evening!

Me + Mum Xmas Pyjamas 2017

6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

How many are there? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph? Is that all of them? I’m gonna check. Oh My God I did them all from memory and in the same order that Google had them in so no one’s gonna believe me but I knew them! If you asked me to name them as quickly as possible I’d panic and not be able to do it.

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

I already mentioned this on my ‘Christmas Traditions’ post [x] but my favourite is going to the pantomime on Christmas Eve which I’ve already done today! I went with my Mum, nephew and his Mum and we had a lovely time. I might be 21 years old but you’re never too old for pantomime! I am looking forward to playing games with my family on Christmas Day again even if my step-mom is terrible at Pictionary.

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

I always used to force my Mom to get a real tree because I hated my Dad’s tacky looking fake tree year after year. Eventually she grew fed up of forking out for a tree every year, the mess it made and how it ends up looking a little depressingly dead by the time Christmas comes around so she bought a fake tree. I moaned and complained but it actually looks pretty decent and it saves us a bit of money each year. I did campaign for my brother to get a better tree because his was gold and looked incredibly tacky so his carers went out and bought him a real tree. Looks so much better!

9. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?

Uh I’m not sure if this counts but I really love the chocolate reindeer that Aldi do. Specifically Aldi, no other type of chocolate reindeer can surpass Aldi’s. One year my Mom made mini steak pies and they were the nicest things ever, I was going to attempt some myself but I was broke for the majority of December so I couldn’t afford the ingredients!

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

Why do you have to prefer one? I love giving gifts, especially when you know you’ve found the perfect gift and the recipient will love it. Or in some cases knowing the recipient will hate it. My Dad still hasn’t given me his Christmas list for this year so I hope he’s looking forward to opening a bunch of tat this year! But equally, I do like receiving gifts… That’s not a crime is it?

11. What is the best Christmas gift you ever received?

I love different gifts off different people. For example Becca got me a BTS pillow last year that I loved, Jess ordered me Girls’ Generation’s ‘I Got A Boy’ album and amazingly got Sunny’s version which was amazing and Hirst got me the cutest Christmassy panda bear beanie which I still wear every year when it’s cold. It kind of depends what my main fandom is at the time. You can never go wrong with K-Pop albums!

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I popped up to my friends not long ago claiming we needed to go on a festive holiday one year and now I’ve got the idea in my head that I’d love to go to Lapland and do all sorts of festive stuff. It costs an absolute fortune but who knows, I might win the lottery one day?

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

Fail miserably which is a shame ‘cos I love wrapping presents! It’s a bit of a running joke how bad I am at wrapping gifts, people tend to struggle to open mine or there are pieces of my hair stuck in every piece of tape I’ve used. Look, it’s a difficult business wrapping presents!

14. Most memorable holiday moment?

Um I assume by this they mean like a nice holiday moment and my favourite is probably Christmas of 2015 where I spent the day at my Dad’s and we played games together all day. We don’t do that kind of thing any other day of the year so I like making the most of it.

15. When did you realise the truth about Santa?

To be honest I only remember one year where I 100% believed in Santa because whenever I left my stocking out my Mom never filled it up for me. If I stayed at my Dad’s on Christmas Eve I’d have a full stocking by morning because my step-mom did it. I love my Mom to pieces and I wouldn’t change a thing about my childhood but I do low-key wish she’d made a bit more of an effort to make me believe in Santa. As a kid at Mom’s I never received presents off Santa, I just thought he brought the ones from Mom. I still kind of believed in him but apart from that one year where I was willing myself to go to sleep because Santa wouldn’t come otherwise, I definitely had doubts.

16. Do you make New Year’s resolutions? Do you stick to them?

At the start of the year for the first couple of months I was desperate to drop some weight so I started eating less and doing more exercise. If I had kept that up I’d probably be a lot better off by now but as before I gave up. Some years I have fulfilled my resolutions by making easier ones. One year I made the resolution to meet someone famous because I never had before and a couple of months later I’d met the band ‘We Are The In Crowd’. This year I made a resolution to do at least one thing every month and I kept that up. Keep them small and realistic and they’re easier to fulfil!

17. What makes the holidays special for you?

Everything I guess? Stupidly small things sometimes. For example I came into work the morning I’d originally written this post and found a colleague had left a packet of ‘chocolate Brussel sprouts’ on my desk. The day before I’d come in and found another colleague had bought me an advent calendar. It’s special going to church with my Mom or going to the pantomime on Christmas Eve with my nephew or spending a festive evening with my best friends. There’s something about the month of December that makes you appreciate everyone that little bit more.

And that’s the Christmas tag! I hope you learnt a little something about me, feel free to comment your answers or link to me your blog if you decide to do the tag! Have a good Christmas!

Mischief Movie Night Review

Mischief Movie Night.jpg

When this was first announced I knew I had to go. I loved Mischief Theatre’s shows ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’, ‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong’ and ‘The Comedy about a Bank Robbery’ so much. I only watched these shows for the first time last year and I’ve already seen ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ four times and ‘The Comedy about a Bank Robbery’ also four times. Unfortunately I’ve only seen ‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong’ once but I’d have seen it more if it was actually still on.

Anyway, I’d never been to anything like this before so I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect but I can honestly say I loved it. I had a feeling it would be brilliant because like, it’s Mischief Theatre, of course it was going to be brilliant but I didn’t really know what was going to happen or anything.

I’m so broke at the moment because I’m an apprentice who earns £3.50 but I had no issue with spending £70 on a hotel room, £20 on train tickets and then £25 on the show ticket. I was counting down the days and it felt like a lifetime but eventually it was the 16th of December and I was on my way to London.

The show’s about an hour long so they do two each evening so before I went I considered buying a ticket for the one afterwards so that I wouldn’t end up back in the hotel too early. Because I had barely any cash though ‘cos of Christmas shopping and everything though I scrapped that idea and decided to see how I felt after the first show – and it was just as well I did.

I was a bit worried about the whole ‘audience participation’ bit at the start because nothing fills me with more anxiety than the words ‘audience participation’ so I went for a seat in circle instead of the stalls and personally I thought there was a better view up there anyway. However there’s no pressure on anyone to call out any ideas as there are tons of more confident people who are happy to so if you’re shy like me you don’t need to worry about that.

The first was a Christmas movie set in space called ‘Jingle My Laser Beams’ and honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much in my entire life. My favourite parts had to be the musical moments, especially Henrik’s soprano bed time story. It’s honestly so cleverly done and I loved every second of it. So at the end when they announced you could get a ticket for the second show for just £10 I knew I had to get one.

The second was an action-adventure movie called ‘Barred 2’ which is a sequel to ‘Barred’ that was a film they’d never done. I think overall I actually preferred this one a little bit because it was even funnier, if possible, than the first one. Mischief Theatre are honestly all so talented to come up with this on the spot, I could never do something like that if I tried.

I enjoyed it so much that I’m considering going back to see it again. I told my Mom and she was all “YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE SAVING!” but like, it was so good that I feel like I need to. If you’re in London you definitely need to go see this, I can’t stress how funny it is and it’s different every time! Even if you’re not in London, do what I did and travel because it’s 100% worth it.

And I just wanna say thank you to Mischief Theatre for a really good night, here’s hoping I can go again in the new year!

Top Ten Favourite K-Pop Debut Songs

Black Pink Debut picture

I feel like debuts can range from really good to dreadful to cringe to kind of okay. If you become a fan of a group a few years after they’ve debuted then a lot of the time their debut song doesn’t match their sound anymore. And that’s okay, groups grow musically and that can be a good thing! There are some debut songs I can’t stand to listen to but there are also tons I absolutely love so I thought I’d make a list of my ten favourites.

10. 4Minute – Hot Issue

4Minute Hot Issue gif.gif

I first listened to 4Minute because they were recommended to me by a friend. The first song I listened to was ‘Crazy’ which I loved at first listen but I found that at first I wasn’t a big fan of their older songs. 4Minute debuted in 2009 so some of their older work did sound quite old fashioned but soon the songs began to grow on me. I didn’t like ‘Hot Issue’ at first listen but now I love it, it was such a great debut. I miss 4Minute so much but I’m glad Hyuna’s still promoting.

9. Black Pink – Boombayah

Black Pink Boombayah gif.gif

I can never decide what I think of Black Pink. One minute I love them and the next I don’t particularly like them. But I loved ‘Boombayah’ and I still do! I feel like at the time more people were raving about ‘Whistle’ but I wasn’t particularly a fan whereas I couldn’t stop listening to ‘Boombayah’. I’m still not sure where I stand with Black Pink but I would like it if they had better promotions like they had what, one comeback this year? Get it together YG.

8. Seventeen – Adore U

Seventeen Adore U gif.gif

This was the first song I’d ever listened to by Seventeen and I wasn’t even aware they were a new group at the time. I first heard of them in 2015 and I honestly had no idea that was the year they’d debuted at the time, I assumed they’d been around a while. At the time I didn’t particularly listen to boy groups and if I ever tried to I grew bored almost immediately. But I instantly liked Seventeen, I loved ‘Adore U’ and ‘Shining Diamond’. I kept recommending them to my friend and she kept putting it off but when she eventually did start listening to them she ended up loving them. This was a great debut song, I love it so much! Also the acoustic version is the best thing I’ve ever heard, just saying.

7. GP Basic – Game

GP Basic Game gif.gif

I only discovered GP Basic this year so I’m really disappointed to find out they disbanded because they have some good songs. My favourite though is probably their debut song ‘Game’, I don’t even particularly know what it is I like about it but I love it. I wish they were still together because they were so good and all the members were so talented, especially the maknae Janey.

6. Mamamoo – Mr Ambiguous

Mamamoo Mr Ambiguous gif.gif

It’s no secret that I love Mamamoo but I didn’t like them when I first listened to them. I think I first listened to ‘Um Oh Ah Yeh’ which at the time I thought was really boring, then I couldn’t get into ‘You’re The Best’. But I kept trying because I thought Mamamoo were really funny and in the end they grew on me. Their debut was named one of the best debuts ever at the time and I have to agree. I love everything about it, especially the choreography.

5. After School – Ah

After School Ah gif.gif

I keep trying to get into After School but I’m just not feeling their songs except for ‘Ah’. It’s the only song I really like and I honestly don’t know why I can’t get into their other songs. However I think ‘Ah’ was a great debut and I wish I could love After School more even though Pledis don’t seem keen to give them a comeback anytime soon… To be honest I’m not really a fan of the whole ‘admissions and graduation’ concept in groups like how disappointed would you be to train for years to join a group where you’re forced to ‘graduate’ even if you still want to promote? Either way I’ll try harder to get into After School because they are extremely talented!

4. Crayon Pop – Saturday Night

Crayon Pop Saturday Night gif.gif

Listen to me, CRAYON POP DID NOT WORK EXTREMELY HARD FOR EVERYONE TO SAY THEY GOT POPULAR BY LUCK. They had some success with ‘Bar Bar Bar’ but then everyone drifted away. They worked so hard though, after ‘Saturday Night’ wasn’t a commercial success they weren’t allowed to perform on many music shows when they made their comeback. So they took to the streets to promote their work and worked so hard to get where they got. I love all of their songs, especially their debut ‘Saturday Night’ which was really good! I especially love Way’s rap and the dance practice for this is so good. I miss my girls but I’m proud of how far they got.

3. 2NE1 – Fire

2NE1 Fire gif.gif

Another girl group I miss are 2NE1 like why did they have to disband like that? They were so iconic and I’m sad that I wasn’t a fan for any of their comebacks other than ‘Goodbye’. I didn’t become a fan until 2015 so for the first song they release when I officially become a fan be a disbandment song was pretty disappointing. But their old songs are amazing, I especially love their debut with ‘Fire’ which is a brilliant song. If you haven’t listened to it then you’re missing out.

2. BTS – No More Dream

BTS No More Dream gif.gif

This is an example of a group changing their sound because BTS don’t really look or sound anything like this anymore, do they? I hadn’t heard their debut song until my friend convinced me we should try and learn the dance. Through learning the dance I started to love the song and I actually think it’s brilliant. I think I prefer BTS’ more recent work like ‘Fire’, ‘MIC Drop’ and ‘I Need U’ etc. but there’s still something about their earlier songs like ‘We Are Bulletproof’ and ‘No More Dream’ that I love. I imagine most people have heard this ‘cos BTS are so popular now so I won’t even bother trying to convince you to listen to it.

1. Girls’ Generation – Into the New World

Girls Generation Into The New World gif 2.gif

Girls’ Generation are my favourite group so it makes sense that I’m a little biased but I think even if they weren’t this still would’ve had my top spot. This debut is so beautiful and uplifting and I love everything about it. The girls really got to showcase how talented they were and it’s crazy to see how far they’ve come since that low quality music video to celebrating their ten year anniversary this year. I’m so proud of them and I love this debut more than anything.

There you go, there’s my ten favourite K-Pop debuts. Feel free to let me know your favourites in the comments!

Favourite Christmas Memories

Christmas Tree.jpg

So my last Christmas related post was a little bit depressing so I wanted to write something much more light hearted! It’ll be easier to write a list of my favourite Christmas memories so here goes nothing.

I was quite young at the time so I don’t particularly remember that well but for a couple of Christmas’ my Mom would take me and my older brother Ian to our sort-of-uncles house because he was a single parent and she was a single parent and neither of them wanted to spend Christmas alone. My Granddad and his wife would come over, I’d get to spend time with my sort-of-uncles two sons who were a similar age to me and it was a lot of fun. My favourite memory is of all of us sitting in the kitchen and playing a game of Bingo, which if we won we’d get a prize for. By the end of the night we’d all won something and I remember having a really nice time.

Christmas 4.jpg

Christmas Lights

In Years 10 and 11 I got to help out with our local Christmas light switch on and it was so much fun both years. I love organising events and stuff so to get to do it properly was a lot of fun. To be honest it was a lot of waiting around for schools to show up and perform but it was also an afternoon off school and getting to hang out with my friends feeling all Christmassy.

Christmas 5.jpg

Christmas Choir

There was no better feeling than when my music teacher Mrs Bradbury would announce “Right, we’re getting the Christmas folders out” at Senior Choir. I loved singing Christmas songs with everyone else even if I never did get a solo. We had our yearly Christmas show but we also got to perform at places like ASDA and B&Q to raise money for our end of year trip. My favourite year though was when Mrs Bradbury took our music class out in the afternoon and we sang first in an old people’s home then again at the Salvation Army. I love singing anyway but it’s so much better when other people enjoy your performance.

My favourite was at the Salvation Army when a man with Down’s Syndrome stood up and started dancing to our rendition of ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’. He was so pleased that at the end he gave each of us a hug. I wish I still did stuff like that; it was so lovely seeing how happy we’d made him just by coming along and singing for an hour.

Christmas 7.jpg

A couple of years ago I went to my Dad’s for Christmas Day and we all ended up playing a few games. My favourite had to be ‘Pictionary’ simply because my step-mom was absolutely crap at it! She’d draw something, scribble over it and then tap it angrily with her pencil when you didn’t understand what it was! Then I had to attempt to draw ‘hand over fist’ and she kept yelling “It’s fisting! It’s fisting! Hollie, I know it’s fisting!” It was funny to watch my step-sisters get so mad at her and I have really fond memories of that whole Christmas in general.

Taking my nephew to see Santa

Christmas 3.jpg

Last year I finally got to spend the day with my nephew completely by myself and we had a lovely time. I took him to the cinema, then out for lunch, then to the park and then on to see Santa. Santa was actually one of my friends from my old job so we got in for free, it was brilliant. And as he knew I was coming he asked me about my nephew before I went so when we walked in he went “I know your name! It’s Tyler and you’re four years old!” And to my nephew it really did seem like magic! It was a really lovely Christmassy day and I’ll treasure it forever.

Every Christmas meet-up with my friends

I talked about this a bit in my ‘Christmas traditions’ post but I love the Christmas meet-up with my three best friends. I loved the first year when we played ‘YouTube Whispers’ for the first time which has turned into something of a tradition at our Christmas meet-ups, I love giving my friends their presents, I love watching a Christmas film and I love chilling with them. It might be lame but there is nothing better than meeting up with my friends to do fun Christmas stuff.

The “timber” incident

My Mum used to get a real tree each year instead of a fake one and I loved going out to pick one. We usually went somewhere where they were already cut and you picked whichever, they bagged it up and off you went. But one year when I was really young we went somewhere where you could cut down your own. I was really excited because I’d seen films and TV shows where people yelled “timber” as the tree came down and I’d finally be able to do it too! However even though we’d brought my older brother Chris with us cutting down the tree was taking a long time and I was young so my attention wandered so when the tree did eventually come down I completely missed it. So I made them hold it back up so I could yell “timber” as it came down this time.

The ‘stockings’ mornings

Me + Big Holly

At my Mom’s house she didn’t really bother with stockings but if I slept at my Dad’s house on Christmas Eve I’d wake up to a full stocking. I only did that twice as a kid and both times are precious to me. The first time my sister woke me up with “Hollie, Santa’s been!” It was super early in the morning and we had to be quiet so as not to wake up my Dad and her Mom and we both spent a long time looking at each other’s stuff. The next time we both went downstairs and opened them in the living room and I remember we both pulled out a flannel – hers was Winnie the Pooh and mine was Tigger. We both paused and she went “I love Tigger” and I went “I love Winnie the Pooh” before we laughed and swapped flannels. It was so nice having someone my own age to wake up with on Christmas morning.

I’m sure I have tons more amazing Christmas memories but these were the first ones I thought of and I cherish each and every one of them! Here’s to making more this year and every year after that!

Sometimes Christmas is Shit

I love Christmas more than any other time of year but I have to admit that yes, sometimes, Christmas is absolutely shit. Although I wouldn’t go as far as to say I’ve ever had a shitty Christmas Day I have had some shit Christmas moments. I don’t want to be an absolute downer or anything but I wanted to write this for anybody who hates Christmas for whatever reason just so you know that you’re not alone in thinking that occasionally Christmas can be an absolute mess.

Some of my shitty Christmas memories are small, petty things. One of them being last Christmas morning when my brother and his girlfriend came over. My step-dad Mark offered to make them, my other brother and my Mom breakfast. I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet either so I waited in the living room in the hopes he would offer to make me one too – I don’t think it’s too selfish of a request to want breakfast with the rest of my family on fucking Christmas morning, right? He didn’t say anything to me. It wasn’t until my eldest brother came in and asked if I’d eaten yet – even then, he gave me his breakfast because he knew my step-dad wouldn’t want to make me anything.

I put up with my step-dad’s bullshit all year round but he really can’t let go of it on fucking Christmas morning? I know it might seem like something small but he is constantly leaving me out of things and putting me down to the point where I’ve decided not to buy him anything for Christmas this year. I made an effort last year and that was the thanks I got. Well he can forget it this year.

That’s not the only time I had to put up with his bullshit actually. Just the year before we had thrown a Christmas party for all our family, an event I am now growing to dread every year because without doubt my family always gets completely pissed. Luckily my Mom just gets slightly annoying but my step-dad can be absolutely vile even when he’s sober and when he’s drunk it’s intensified. He’d already annoyed me with the way he’d been speaking to my Mom all night but it all kicked off when everyone had gone home and I come downstairs for a drink. He made a snide comment, I can’t even remember what it was about but he’d been making them for the majority of the night so I finally snapped “Can you just leave me alone? I’m not even doing anything.”

He made some snide comment along the lines of “Well you never do anything, make yourself useful and actually do something” – I can’t even actually remember what he said but it was along those lines and I was honestly so done that I started yelling “Just leave me alone!” and ran upstairs. I had my headphones on playing music so I didn’t hear what he screamed up the stairs after me but I locked myself in my room and cried. I didn’t want to be there but my best friend was at work and I don’t really have any family close by I could’ve turned to. Eventually my Mom and step-dad went to bed so I did too. The next morning he didn’t even remember the argument.

To be honest this is stuff I put up with all year round but it feels so much worse at Christmas since everyone gets time off work and before you know it you haven’t left the house for five days and you’ve spent so much time with your family that you want to scream.

I have five step-sisters and two brothers and whilst I love them all, by the 27th of December I am sick of the sight of them. To be fair I don’t normally see all of them and I don’t get sick of all of them. It’s generally my step-dad’s two daughters and I mean this is the nicest way possible because I love them both to bits but because they come to stay for a couple of nights I do generally start to feel a bit fed up.

It’s nothing to do with them, honestly! But I am someone who doesn’t like to socialise from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, I need some alone time at some point. If I have spent every waking moment with my family on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day then I do generally start to get fed up by the 27th but as my step-sisters are still there the 27th of December is still a family day.

One of my step-sister’s is very close to me in age so naturally she wants to hang out with me and we end up having to share a room etc. And this is fine until I start to get fed up. For example last year she slept over on Boxing Day and as everyone was getting into bed she suggested we watch a film together. It was already quite late and I had work the next morning but as I only see her once a year I thought I’d better be nice so I agreed. Now I love her but she is the worst person to watch films with because she can’t keep anything to herself! We were watching a film I hadn’t seen before and she had and towards the end she went “It’s okay, he dies in a second.” I don’t need to know that!

There was also the shitty year that I ended up working at TESCO for a week as a Christmas temp – to be fair the payday I received in January was not shitty but I kind of deserved it for how many hours I was doing for that one week! They asked me to work on Christmas Eve but as I always go to the pantomime with my Mom I had to ask them to change my hours so they put me on a 4AM to 12PM shift. I agreed but then realised afterwards that my shift the day before was from 10AM – 10PM. I would have a six hour break between shifts! You have no idea how tired I was on Christmas Eve. Worth it though to see the pantomime.

All those were shit but they still don’t top the fiasco of 2012. I already mentioned that everyone at our family Christmas parties gets absolutely twatted but the past few years have been nothing compared to 2012. I don’t want to go into too much detail because it was truly a shit night but all I will say is that it resulted in me calling the police, my brother getting arrested and then going to jail for six months shortly after Christmas. It all kicked off on the night before Christmas Eve so luckily Christmas Day was still relatively okay. Also most of the family had already gone home by the time everything kicked off so not many people had to get involved. All I will say is that it’s extremely embarrassing and scary to watch your family screaming at each other in the middle of the street. What a shit year.

I’m kind of debating whether to post this because I love Christmas and I don’t want this blog full of depressing posts so to contrast this I’m going to write a post of my favourite Christmas memories. I just want you all to know that shit does kick off at Christmas and it can be stressful for families to all be together for so long with no respite and you’re not weird or anything if it does all get too much for you. Take care of yourself this Christmas and try not to get too stressed out!

Ten Songs for People Who Hate ‘Cute’ K-Pop Girl Groups

4Minute 2.jpg

As a girl group stan I am sick of reading about how people don’t like girl groups because they don’t like cute concepts. I don’t have an issue with people preferring boy groups to girl groups, everyone has their preference and that’s fine but it goes right through me whenever I have to read it. So to make some kind of stubborn point I’ve made a list of ten girl group songs to listen to if you’re not a fan of the cute concept!

10. CLC – Hobgoblin

CLC Hobgoblin gif.gif

This song blew up a little bit when CLC released it because it was so different to anything else CLC had released up until that point. Hyuna helped to write it and you can definitely hear her influence in the song. It’s honestly an absolute bop and if you haven’t listened to it yet you’re missing out.

9. Bulldok – Why Not

Bulldok Why Not gif.gif

Bulldok have recently been through some line-up changes and there are only two of the original five members left but this song is still really good. I haven’t really been keeping up with Bulldok but I can’t deny that ‘Why Not’ is a good song and Bulldok were completely slept on. I’m pretty sure ‘Why Not’ was their debut song so why not go give it a listen?

8. Dreamcatcher – Fly High

Dreamcatcher Fly High gif.gif

Dreamcatcher are amazing and I can’t rate them highly enough. When I was a teenager I was really into rock music so what I love about Dreamcatcher is that they’re a mixture in my old music taste and my new music taste. Their dancing skills are also amazing. I loved their debut song ‘Chase Me’ but I think ‘Fly High’ has to take the spot of my favourite song. Watch their dance practice videos, they’re so amazingly talented!

7. Matilda – You Bad! Don’t Make Me Cry

Matilda You Bad Don't Make Me Cry gif

I’ve already mentioned this song in a previous post but like, please listen to Matilda. They’re good! I know the song title is a little cringe but the song’s still really good. I also like their song ‘Summer Again’, that’s good too. They’re a good group and I wish people would show them more love.

6. Girls’ Generation – The Boys

Girls Generation The Boys gif

Girls’ Generation have such a wide range of concepts that you must like at least one of them. I was going to recommend ‘I Got A Boy’ but I chose ‘The Boys’ because it has such a good message, the dance practice video is great and the girls all looked absolutely stunning in the music video. Girls’ Generation have other great songs that aren’t too cute like ‘Flower Power’, ‘Run Devil Run’ and ‘You Think’ so you should check them out if you haven’t already, there must be at least one GG song you like!

5. f(x) – Red Light

f(x) Red Light gif.gif

I’m not a massive fan of f(x) but they do have some good songs, including ‘Electric Shock’ and ‘Rum Pum Pum’ but I chose ‘Red Light’ because I’m a big fan of that one. It’s really good; I wish they’d performed it when I saw them at K-Con Paris last year. Another good one is Amber’s solo song ‘Shake That Brass’ I can’t get enough of that song. Listen to f(x), they do have some good songs!

4. D.Holic – Colour Me Rad

DHolic colour me rad gif

There was only one member of D.Holic left and apparently they’re going to re-debut her in a different group but whilst D.Holic were active they had some absolute bangers. I love ‘Colour Me Rad’ so much, it’s so lit I don’t get why more people haven’t listened to it? I will support Rena in whichever group she re-debuts in, it must’ve been hard to debut and watch all the members disappear whilst trying to stay faithful to the group. Check out ‘Colour Me Rad’ though, it’s a good song!

3. EXID – Lie

EXID Lie gif.gif

I’m not gonna lie when I first listened to this song I thought it was a bit all over the place and I wasn’t sure I was a fan. It took a few listens but it eventually grew on me and now it’s my favourite EXID song – and they didn’t perform it at the London Korean Festival earlier this year, how typical. EXID have some amazing songs and luckily are quite popular which they deserve, their songs are good and all the members are so talented. Another song I love is Hyuna and LE’s collab of ‘Blacklist’ so you should give that a listen too.

2. Badkiz – Hothae

Badkiz Hothae gif.gif

Badkiz have been through so many line-up changes as well and have racked up a total of ten past members! Currently there are four members with only one of the original line-up left. Shout-out to their leader Monika for working so hard for Badkiz. I’ve only started listening to them in the past couple of days but they have some good songs, it’s a shame they’ve lost so many members. ‘Hothae’ is a good song but if you’re not a fan then ‘Come Closer’ is good too! Give Badkiz a try!

1. Sol T – Bad Girls

Sol T Bad Girls gif.gif

I’m gonna be 100% honest with you and admit that I only discovered this group and song today. But I’ve had the song on repeat for the last hour and I’m really digging it. I need to listen to more of their songs because this one is actually amazing. If you haven’t heard ‘Bad Girls’ already then you’re missing out, this song is so good and I can’t wait to listen to more Sol T!

There you go, ten girl group songs to listen to! Now stop moaning that all girl groups are doing the cute concept because they’re not, it’s just that the ones trying something new are being slept on.

Christmas Films I’ve Watched/Will Watch This Year

Christmas Tree

It’s no secret that I love pretty much everything about Christmas and that definitely includes movies! Christmas movies can be a bit hit and miss, some are absolutely tragic (Looking at you, Office Christmas Party) but some are amazing. We all know the best ones, the ones we have to watch every year without fail so I thought I’d write a list of the Christmas films I’ve seen so far and those I plan on watching.

Arthur Christmas

Generally I watch the same Christmas films year after year but this year I want to watch some new ones as well. I hadn’t seen ‘Arthur Christmas’ before so the other night I put it on and actually ended up really enjoying it. I think kids Christmas films are always so heart-warming and I actually found myself crying towards the end (I’m such a cry baby at films) – it’s a film I’d like to put on again next Christmas, I really liked it.

Home Alone

This has got to be one of my favourite Christmas films ever. I don’t think a single Christmas has gone by where I haven’t seen this film. I haven’t watched it yet this year but it’s definitely on the list along with its sequel ‘Lost in New York’. I doubt there are many that haven’t seen this film because it’s truly a classic by this point. I love it so much I even bought myself some ‘Home Alone’ themed Christmas pyjamas from PRIMARK so I’ll be wearing them for the majority of December.

The Snowman

Right, I love this film but oh my god it hurts my heart. Every year it’s played on Christmas Day and I have to sit there trying my best not to try in front of my entire family at the ending. This year I’ve watched it by myself so I could weep absolute buckets at the ending just because I could! I love it so much that I made my Mom come with me to see the stage version last year and it was actually fantastic, I probably won’t get to see it this year but I’ll definitely make sure I go next year. I’m almost crying just writing this, I honestly love the film so much and I don’t care what anybody says!

I also want to watch the sequel about the snow dog, it’s nowhere near as good as the original but at the least the ending isn’t quite as sad as the original!

I haven’t seen this film for years and it’s a shame because I did really like it so this year I bought it on DVD so I can rewatch it. I can only remember little snippets of the film and I can’t wait to watch the entire thing again. There are ‘Elf’ pyjamas in PRIMARK and I’m tempted to get some of them too – the Christmas pyjamas in PRIMARK are so cute and I need to stop spending all my money in there!

The Grinch

I only saw this film for the first time last year and I’ve really been missing out! My friends were amazed when they found out I’d never seen it so at our Christmas present exchange we put it on and I loved it. I’d like to rewatch it this year as I was busy sorting out food and stuff last year so I missed parts of it and I can’t wait. I’ve legit booked a day off work so I can spend the whole day sat at home in my PJs watching Christmas films and this film will definitely be on the list!

Miracle on 34th Street

I hate to admit it but I’ve never seen this one. I’ve heard it’s brilliant but I’ve just never sat down to watch it. However I’ve noticed it’s on Netflix this year so I’ve added it to my list and I will finally get round to watching it this year! I’ve heard there’s also a black and white version but I think I’ll go for the Mara Wilson version personally. My Mom watched it and told me it’s fantastic so I can’t wait to see it for myself.

Those are all I can think of for now, if you have any recommendations then please feel free to leave them in the comments and let me know what you’ll be watching this Christmas!

Christmas Traditions

I stated around Halloween that I wanted to write more holiday themed posts and my favourite holiday has to be Christmas. Christmas is great because for the whole of December you get a lovely build-up until the actual day. Every December I have some traditions which can be with family, friends or just by myself and I thought I’d share them!

Going to Church

Although I believe in God and I’d say I’m a Christian I’m not particularly very religious so I don’t go to church regularly. However me and my Mom go once a year in December for the carol service. It makes me feel so Christmassy and I love going so much. Last year they didn’t have the carol service so we went on Christmas Eve instead but this year they’re bringing it back and I can’t wait! I love our little church and the way it’s decorated each year and I’m really excited to go back.

Christmas Pyjamas

This one is a new tradition because we only started it last year but on Christmas Eve last year my Mom came into my room and said “Here’s an early Christmas present!” I unwrapped them and found a pair of Christmas pyjamas. My Mom headed into her room whilst I put mine in and when I came out I found she was wearing the same pair!

Christmas 2

We asked my step-dad to take a photo of the two of us but he’s an asshole and wouldn’t so we had to take a selfie in the mirror. She’s asked if I want to keep the tradition going and I do, it’s really fun and sweet!

Friends Present Exchange

I absolutely love the present exchange with my friends, we all meet up and have a sleepover a few days before Christmas and I love it so much. We usually meet up at someone’s house and exchange the presents first before having dinner together whilst watching a Christmas movie then we stay up for ages playing games. I love just being able to spend time doing Christmas things with my favourite losers and I can’t wait for this years. I feel like I could be fifty years old and I’ll still be messaging my friends like “WHEN WE MEETING UP FOR CHRISTMAS LADS?”

Buying new Christmas decorations

This is a long tradition, we’ve been doing this ever since I was a kid. When I was younger my Mom used to get us a real tree so when we went to choose it we’d always go somewhere Christmassy with like a shop and stuff so we could have a good look around before choosing the tree. Every year me and my brother were allowed to pick out one new decoration for the tree. Now that I’m earning my own wage I do cheat a bit because I pick out one that Mom buys and then I’ll go and buy another one with my own money. I wish I could include ‘going out to pick out a real tree’ as one of our traditions but unfortunately due to money and convenience we’ve started using a fake tree. But I do love picking out a new decoration each year, I tend to go for things that look sweet like last year I chose a hedgehog decoration. I also went out and bought a Mulan decoration and I accidentally snapped the leg off before she made it onto the tree. Whoops.

Pantomime on Christmas Eve

This is probably my favourite tradition. For a few years every Christmas Eve me and my Mom would always go to our local theatre to watch the pantomime on Christmas Eve. For the first time we took my nephew last year and he’s coming again next year so it looks like he’ll be involved in the tradition too! I love the pantomime so much, I don’t care how old I am and it makes Christmas Eve so much more fun to have this to look forward to.

If you have any Christmas traditions then leave me a comment, I love hearing what everyone’s up to around the holidays!
