Favourite vs. Least Favourite K-Pop Songs

Red Velvet

When I was a teenager I loved pretty much any song my favourite artists released but K-Pop is funny as the same group can have many completely different sounding comebacks. When I first got into K-Pop this really surprised me – I remember being a big fan of 2NE1’s ‘I Am the Best’ so I decided to listen to more of their stuff and clicked onto ‘Come Back Home’ which had a completely different vibe.

Anyway, even if I love and stan a group they can sometimes release songs that I’m not a massive fan of so I decided to write a list of my favourite vs least favourite songs by my favourite K-Pop artists!

Girls’ Generation

Favourite Song: I Got a Boy

I Got A Boy gif.gif

Least Favourite Song: Genie

Genie gif.gif

It’s been no secret on this blog that my favourite Girls’ Generation song is ‘I Got a Boy’. It was the first song I listened to by them and I loved everything about it. Even now I don’t think anything will top it. Now I don’t hate Genie but I really don’t like the leg movement (as shown in the gif) and compared to their other songs I just find it a little annoying. Fun fact, I got proper backlash when I responded to a tweet that said ‘Girls’ Generation’s worst title song is Party’ – others were replying with their least favourites so I responded ‘Incorrect, it’s Genie’ and suddenly I was getting messages from angry SONEs who clearly thought I hated the whole group! I deleted the tweet because it was clearly taken the wrong way but gosh, people need to learn to chill.

Crayon Pop

Favourite Song: Uh-Ee

Crayon Pop Uh-Ee gif.gif

Least Favourite Song: HaPaTaKa

Crayon Pop gif 2.gif

My favourite song by Crayon Pop changes quite regularly because I love pretty much all of them. However, I really didn’t like ‘HaPaTaKa’ from the FM album. It only had three songs, I obviously loved ‘FM’ and I thought ‘1,2,3,4’ was sweet but ‘HaPaTaKa’ is just boring and pointless. At least it’s not a title track I suppose but yeah, not particularly a fan of that one!

BTS

Favourite Song: Idol

BTS Idol gif 2.gif

Least Favourite Song: Just One Day

BTS Just One Day gif.gif

To be honest my favourite BTS song changes all the time and I don’t doubt that I’ll post it and immediately have a new favourite song but at the moment I do love ‘Idol’. I don’t think I loved it at first listen but after a couple more times it quickly grew on me and seeing it live at Wembley was SO much fun. It’s such an energetic song! There aren’t many songs I dislike but unfortunately I find ‘Just One Day’ a little bit boring. I haven’t listened to it a ton so who knows, it may grow on me one day? I’m not sure I’ll ever be a massive fan of ‘Ma City’ because it’s my friends alarm tone so the start of the song just reminds me of extremely tiring, bad mood mornings from sleepovers haha!

AOA

Favourite Song: Bingle Bangle

AOA Bingle Bangle gif 2.gif

Least Favourite Song: Heart Attack

AOA Heart Attack gif.gif

I won’t go on and on about this one because I’ve already mentioned how much I dislike the song ‘Heart Attack’ on this blog before but yeah, I’ve tried several times to like this song and I just can’t. I love pretty much all other AOA songs, especially ‘Bingle Bangle’ – Jimin’s rap absolutely makes the song, you can’t tell me otherwise. But I can’t get into ‘Heart Attack’ no matter how much I want to.

Red Velvet

Favourite Song: Really Bad Boy

Really Bad Boy gif 2.gif

Least Favourite Song: One of These Nights

One of These Nights gif.gif

Everybody proper hyped up ‘Bad Boy’ and although I liked it I can’t say it’s ever been one of my favourite Red Velvet songs because I prefer something a bit more energetic. Like don’t get me wrong, it was good and I liked the vibe but it’s not really my usual type of song. ‘Really Bad Boy’ hooked me right from the start and is definitely more my type of song. As already mentioned I’m not the biggest fan of slow songs so I didn’t really enjoy ‘One of These Nights’. Sure, Red Velvet’s vocals are good but it’s still not their most interesting song.

Mamamoo

Favourite Song: Egotistic

Egotistic gif 2

Least Favourite Song: Starry Night

Starry Night gif.gif

After ‘Starry Night’ was released I started to go off Mamamoo a little bit because I didn’t like ‘Egotistic’ either. Until Jess gave me a lift home one night and blasted that song the entire way back. I started listening to it on Spotify and started to appreciate it a lot more until it eventually became my favourite song. I can’t get into ‘Starry Night’, it’s another song that just feels too boring for me. I’m not sure how much I love Mamamoo anymore but I’ll keep an eye on their future releases.

Block B

Favourite Song: Very Good

Very Good gif.gif

Least Favourite Song: Toy

Toy gif.gif

Now I don’t dislike ‘Toy’ but like most songs I’m not a huge fan of it’s just a bit slow and doesn’t really capture my interest. Also was the dab in the choreography necessary? I prefer their other upbeat songs, ‘Very Good’ being one of my favourites. I do love ‘Jackpot’ as well though. Block B have some absolute bangers, I’m just not a massive fan of ‘Toy’.

TWICE

Favourite Song: Yes or Yes?

Yes or Yes gif 2.gif

Least Favourite Song: Signal

Signal gif.gif

You either love or hate TWICE and I absolutely love them. I’ve loved pretty much all of their comebacks except some have taken a little longer to grow on me. For example everybody was hyping up ‘TT’ but I didn’t see the appeal. Even now that I like the song it’s still not my favourite TWICE song. But my least favourite was quickly replaced with ‘Signal’ – it’s not a bad song and I don’t hate it but God it’s definitely not their best. My favourite TWICE song changes pretty much every comeback and I loved ‘Yes or Yes’ straightaway so that’s currently my favourite.

EXO

Favourite Song: Monster

Exo Monster gif.gif

Least Favourite Song: Wolf

EXO Wolf gif.gif

Not many people love Wolf, let’s be fair – I’m not the biggest EXO fan on the planet so I don’t know a ton of their songs but I do like quite a few of them, my favourite being Monster. I’ve only listened to one EXO-CBX song and that was because me and my friends were showing each other the cringiest K-Pop songs we could find and they put on ‘Ka-CHING’ which although cringey I actually really love.

Oh My Girl

Favourite Song: Closer

Closer gif.gif

Least Favourite Song: Secret Garden

Secret Garden gif.gif

I wasn’t really a big fan of Oh My Girl’s releases last year. I liked ‘Banana Allergy Monkey’ but that was a subunit debut so it doesn’t really count. Oh My Girl are one of my favourite groups so I did want to like their comebacks last year but I just… Didn’t? I didn’t really like ‘Remember Me’ either. I love their older stuff like ‘Liar Liar’ and ‘Windy Day’, and especially love ‘Closer’ but I don’t know. Their stuff this year just wasn’t doing it for me.

Black Pink

Favourite Song: Kill This Love

Kill This Love gif.gif

Least Favourite Song: Playing With Fire

Playing With Fire gif

Most new Black Pink songs take a while to grow on me before I decide that yeah, they’re good songs. ‘Kill This Love’ was different because from that first listen I was in love. It was just so… I don’t even know but I couldn’t stop listening to it! I loved absolutely everything about it – even my sister who’s not really a fan of K-Pop was getting hyped about this song. Now I don’t dislike ‘Playing With Fire’ but I think out of all their songs it just doesn’t interest me as much. Weirdly I quite liked ‘Stay’ considering my hatred for slow songs but couldn’t get into ‘Playing With Fire’ as much.

So yeah, those are my favourite vs least favourite K-Pop songs! Feel free to leave a comment with yours and we can compare!

BTS at Wembley 2019: Review

BTS Wembley

You have no idea the relief I felt when BTS announced they were coming back to Europe and I saw I’d actually be around for their London show. Even better, they were coming on a Saturday (1st June 2019). I wouldn’t need to book any time off work and travelling to London would be much better than travelling back to Paris yet again – I’d seen BTS twice and both times had had no choice but to travel to Paris if I wanted to see them. I wrote a review of their Paris show at their last tour here if you want to read that.

I’d thought buying tickets for the Paris was a nightmare, which it was, but this took it to a whole new level. I was more prepared this time and told work I’d be in two hours late instead of one and sat at my computer ready to battle it out for tickets. Ticketmaster had other plans though and kept being a dick and kicking me, Becca and a ton of other fans on Twitter out of the virtual queue. Fans on Twitter were advising people to use the app so I downloaded it and gave it a go – it showed me some tickets and I swear I clicked straightaway only for it to be like ‘lol, sorry no’. We tried for ages until eventually the website wasn’t even trying anymore and was just telling me it was now sold out.

This was a first for me – no matter how difficult it’s been I’ve always managed to get tickets to a concert I’ve been desperate to go to. As they were only doing one night me and Becca decided we’d try and get some resale tickets. This also turned out to be a nightmare as a couple of times I went through the whole process on getmein only for it to tell me at the last second it was sold out. Luckily eventually Becca secured us two tickets and we both went to work. Our tickets were worth about £70 each and we’d spent £180 each on them. We spent more to sit towards the back than we would’ve had to if we’d sat at the front.

Now I HATE scalpers, I hate the whole principal and a lot of fans on Twitter were like ‘don’t buy them as it just feeds the fire’ and whilst I agree I was just so desperate to go that I had to pay it. My cut off for ticket prices had been £200 each so this was technically still in my budget. To be truthful though I wasn’t like thrilled we were going, just relieved and annoyed that I’d had to spend so much more ‘cos of some asshole trying to make some extra cash.

A few hours later ticketmaster started tweeting some teasing stuff to BTS fans and I just knew they were gonna announce another date and I was fed up by this point. Me and Becca discussed it and because we’re such trash bags we decided if they did announce another date we’d try again for tickets. If we got official ones then great but if not we wouldn’t buy off scalpers this time. And of course the very next morning they announced there was gonna be a Sunday (2nd June 2019) concert too.

I didn’t dare go into work and ask to come in late yet again so I had to try and buy them whilst AT work which proved to be yet another nightmare of ticketmaster not working. After about an hour I decided to try on the app again and it loaded for ages before finally showing me two tickets. I clicked, thinking what would happen before would happen again, but I started entering my info. I was shaking so much and my heart was beating fast but soon I’d hit check out and the tickets were ours! They were better seats than our Saturday ones and they’d cost a little bit less, about £140 each. That was settled, we were going for both nights.

BTS Wembley 2

It came around a lot quicker than I thought it would and before I knew it we were on the train on our way to London. The journey went quite quickly and we went straight to check into our hotel at Kings Cross. Not the best hotel we’ve ever stayed in but we didn’t intend on spending much time in the hotel anyway. Unfortunately it was super hot that weekend in London and our room didn’t have any air con or even a window we could open (just a door leading outside which was stressful) but as mentioned, we weren’t planning on spending much time in the hotel anyway. We dumped our heavy bag in the room before heading to Kings Cross to get some lunch.

BTS Wembley 3

We had a quick lunch at Giraffe, withdrew some cash and then started off on the 30 minute underground journey to Wembley Stadium. It was still quite early at this point but we wanted enough time to arrive, have a look around, find the right entrance, wait in line, get a drink etc. before finding our seat. I’d moaned in the Paris review about having to stand at the back and that I prayed we’d get seated tickets next time so I was relieved when they announced every ticket was seated. It’s honestly just so much easier and more enjoyable.

To be fair if you hadn’t been able to get a ticket online it might be worth just turning up and hoping for the best as a few people were selling tickets right outside the tube station when we arrived. The walk to Wembley Stadium was packed full of people walking and taking photos as there were lots of banners up with the members faces on them. Me and Becca took a couple as well but with so many people around it was hard to get decent ones.

We’d both agreed beforehand that we wanted a light stick each. Neither of us were sure how much they cost but we took out £50 each and hoped that would be enough. The queue for light sticks was long but not too long as luckily there were several different stands to buy light sticks so we joined this straightaway. It was hot out and we were both dying but the queue moved quite quickly. When we got to the front I had no idea what the guy was saying but luckily Becca understood and it turned out to be £94 for two light sticks so about £47 each including batteries. Quite expensive but apparently when Becca looked on Amazon there were some going for about £60 each so in the grand scheme of things not too bad.

BTS Wembley 4

We both sat down to figure them out which is when my phone decided to be an asshole and just wouldn’t connect to any internet so I couldn’t download the bloody app to sync up the light stick even though Becca managed to download it in like twenty seconds. We went off to find the queue whilst I stressed about my phone not connecting for no reason whatsoever. I was probably doing Becca’s head in but I hadn’t just spent £47 for it not to sync up. There were pairing booths dotted around the arena so if worst came to worst I’d have to use one of those.

Finding our entrance was a NIGHTMARE, we were entrance A and the first person we asked told us to go right so we walked up but the signs were telling us to go left so we did, then we got directed downstairs, then we got directed to the back of a long queue which we joined only when we got to the front the guy told us we’d been in the wrong queue all along. We were getting a bit annoyed by this point so Becca was like “but we just waited all that time?” and the guy was like “well yeah but it was the wrong one, you should’ve checked” and she was like “We did? Four times?” After what felt like forever though we finally managed to go through our actual entrance.

By this point my phone had finally gained some signal and I’d been able to download the app. We both grabbed a drink then headed to our seats which weren’t actually as bad as I’d been anticipating. We were quite far up but over to the left instead of right at the back of the arena. Our view was clear and to be honest I appreciate that at K-Pop concerts so you can see the amazing choreography.

BTS Wembley 5

We decided to sync up our light sticks and I dunno what the fuck is wrong with my phone but no matter how hard I try (I’ve even tried at home) it just won’t pick up my light stick. Becca’s connected almost instantly and I didn’t really know what to do until the light stick instructions played on the screen (this happened regularly before the show started) and luckily advised that you can sync up more than one light stick to one phone so Becca kindly synced mine up on her phone so they were both ready. For anyone not sure what I mean by syncing it up – you put in your ticket information and then throughout the concert the light sticks change colours to match the songs and they can change by sections and stuff, like for example during ‘Anpanman’ the whole place was rainbow themed and it looks amazing as someone controls all the light sticks. It does look incredible.

There was a long wait until the start of the show but at least we were sat down so it wasn’t too bad. They played BTS music videos whilst we were waiting, and me and Becca tried to learn the name fan chant. Well we know their names but we wanted to get the order right. We kept fucking it up and it was pretty useless as although we eventually learnt the chant we weren’t sure when they came in. Whenever the crowd started chanting I never picked it up until they got to Kim Taehyung anyway. The one time I did manage to get it on Jung Hoseok and nearly knocked Becca out with my light stick ‘cos I was so excited about it.

After about an hour and forty five minutes I’d guess a video started playing on screen and there had been some cloths on stage which were pulled back so that’s how we knew the concert was starting – they couldn’t dim the lights as it was an open arena so it was quite bright for most of it. We all stood up and the concert began!

BTS Wembley 6

They opened with ‘Dionysus’ which was lit as hell. To be honest I hadn’t been overly keen on ‘Boy with Love’ when I first heard it so I’d sort of put off listening to the album but had listened to it a few days before going to the concert. That’s probably my favourite song off the album as its so much fun and seeing it live was awesome. Then they moved onto ‘Not Today’ which is one of the most motivational songs ever – I listen to it at the gym and it always keeps me moving. They didn’t perform ‘Not Today’ when we saw them in Paris so it was amazing to finally see it live. The next song was ‘Outro: Wings’ before they all went backstage and the first solo stage started.

My favourite solo song off their album is definitely J-Hope’s ‘Just Dance’ as it’s just such a fun song! It was nice to actually be able to see it this time instead of having to look over hundreds of people’s heads in Paris. In the middle of the song we all started up a chant of “J-HOPE! J-HOPE! J-HOPE!” and you could just see how much fun he was having with it. I love that song so much that I was sad when it finished but at least I knew I’d be seeing it again the following night.

Next up was Jungkook with ‘Euphoria’. To be honest ‘Euphoria’ is probably my least favourite solo song but the performance was still good. Before we’d gone Becca had been telling me about clips she’d seen of the tour on Twitter and had told me “Oh yeah and Jungkook swings round the stage, you know like that girl that pretends to be dead? Just like that” then after a pause said “Well you know, not exactly like that”. I’d pissed myself imagining Jungkook pretending to be dead as he swung around the arena singing ‘Euphoria’. He did glide over the crowd but it was much more graceful than Becca had originally described!

The boys came back on stage and performed ‘Best of Me’. I hadn’t listened to that song much before the concert but it was good and as usual the boys were full of energy that it was just impossible to have a bad time. I was really glad me and Becca had the light sticks as to be honest sometimes at concerts I’m not really sure what to do with my arms so at least I had this to wave around.

BTS Wembley 9

It was time for another couple of solo stages and next up were Jimin and RM. Jimin entered the stage from below inside of a bubble and I couldn’t resist quipping to Becca “HE CAME UP IN A BUBBLE DAWG” (if you saw that Wicked Witch of the East meme you’ll know what I was referencing). I wasn’t sure about this song upon first listening to it but it quickly climbed the list and became one of my favourite songs. It’s one of those I listen to when I’m pissed off about something and it calms me down. I love the song so much that if I wasn’t such a J-Hope stan I think Jimin would be my bias. The performance was incredible as usual, Jimin is so talented.

BTS Wembley 8

Next up was RM with ‘Trivia: Love’ which is another song I love. This one was good because towards the end of the song they were adding special effects to the screen to make it look like RM was drawing hearts and stuff like that. It just looked really incredible!

The boys came back out and there was a group performance of ‘Boy with Luv’ which is their new title track. To be honest I wasn’t 100% sure if I liked it when I first heard it – I love the music video, the aesthetic and the choreography but I wasn’t sure about the song itself. Whilst it’s still not of my favourites it has definitely grown on me and it was a fun performance. Next up was a medley of ‘Dope’, ‘Bapsae’ and ‘Fire’. ‘Dope’ and ‘Fire’ are two of my favourite songs and while I wish they’d performed both songs in a full version I appreciate that with all the solo songs there are only so many full songs they can sing. At least they were included although I do wish they’d add ‘Fun Boys’ back to the set list.

Next up was ‘Idol’ which to be honest is probably one of the list lit songs of theirs to see live. They’d opened with it at the Paris show and although I’d appreciated it there was something much more fun about it at the London shows. As I had more energy I was dancing and screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs, it was just so much fun!

Another solo song next and this time it was V with ‘Singularity’ which again, hadn’t loved originally but had grown on me. I just like the hazy feeling to it, it reminds me of feeling drunk and I love the performance with the masks and everything. In this one V appears on the stage in a bed with his eyes closed then opens them just as he begins to sing. It was an amazing performance before the rest of the boys joined him to perform ‘Fake Love’. ‘Fake Love’ is another song that’s more fun when it’s live, I love doing the ‘FAKE LOVE’ chant during the chorus and I love the choreography for this one too.

It was time for the last solo stages which of course were Suga and Jin’s. Suga was up first with ‘Seesaw’ which has grown on me more since the concert but all I can hear in the chorus is “alright, I want the cheesecake” – I know those aren’t genuinely the lyrics but that’s all my stupid brain can hear. Luckily that’s what Becca hears as well so the two of us just sang that without a care in the world. That’s the one annoying thing about K-Pop concerts, you wanna sing along but you know you’re pronouncing every word incorrectly.

Next up was Jin’s ‘Epiphany’ which is a BEAUTIFUL song. To be honest I didn’t like it at the Paris show. I was exhausted and I’ve never really loved slow songs anyway so although I appreciated the lights in the venue I wasn’t having a good time. Now I LOVE that song, that song makes me feel so many things. It’s such a lovely song and I can’t believe there are people who say Jin can’t sing. Becca turned to me at the end and went “MAN’S GOT PIPES!” She ain’t wrong.

BTS Wembley 11

‘The Truth Untold’ was next which is the vocal line Jin, Jungkook, V and Jimin. Another song I hadn’t appreciated at the Paris show because I was so tired that any slow song sort of sent me drifting off. I was quite sad because it quickly became one of my favourite songs and I hadn’t appreciated it enough so I was glad to see it again. It was a beautiful performance but it did look like Jimin was crying which was proper stressing me out. I think he was sick because he kept holding his throat and did cough a few times the next day but he sounded absolutely amazing so you’d have never guessed.

It was time for the rap lines song next which is ‘Outro: Tear’ performed by J-Hope, Suga and RM. This is another song that I liked at the time but now love more that I’ve left the concert. On the screens they put a black and white filter which gave it an edgy vibe and the three of them were just so energetic. I wish I’d gotten a video of it but I was just enjoying the moment.

Back to group performances it was time for ‘Mic Drop’ which they claimed was their last song of the night but we all knew it wasn’t. We’d been given banners as we’d entered Wembley and were told to get them out when ‘Army Time’ appeared on the screen and it hadn’t appeared yet. They played the remix version of ‘Mic Drop’ and it was LIT, I got a video of me and Becca singing to it and it was another one of those songs that was so much fun to see live.

They went offstage but the lights stayed down so we all knew they were gonna come back for an encore. It was a bit of a wait but it didn’t matter as it gave us all a chance to sit down. There was a lot of chanting and then we all started doing Mexican waves around the arena for some reason. After about maybe ten minutes I wanna say, maybe less, BTS came back out and performed ‘Anpanman’ which was fun as they blew up some inflatable’s in the middle part of the arena including a bouncy slide so the members sang whilst playing around on them which was random but a lot of fun! I feel like there was a lot more going on visually at this concert compared to the Paris one last year but maybe that’s just ‘cos I could actually see this year!

BTS Wembley 10

I can’t remember at what points specifically but the boys did stop to interact with the crowd occasionally. RM drove Becca absolutely up the wall by only speaking in a British accent for some reason. All the members attempted to speak completely in English except for Suga when a translator got involved. I was glad we were at the London show as the translations were made to English but to be honest it didn’t 100% sound like the translator knew what he was doing – a bit like the one at Block B previously, a member would say something really long, there’d be a pause and the translator would be like “He is having a good time”.

I can’t remember everything every member said but I know Jin talked about how he was amazed to be playing at Wembley and talked about the film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ before the doing the whole ‘AY-O’ bit that Freddie Mercury had done. RM also brought up other groups that he looked up to that had played at Wembley and mentioned ‘Coldplay’ which Becca was outraged by. The boys also got us all doing yet another Mexican wave with our light sticks. They kept thanking us and talking about their disbelief in playing at Wembley and it was really touching, you could tell just how grateful they were for their fans. The only moment that had me shook was when V was making his speech and at the end he said, in the most sincere voice I’ve ever heard, “fuck you” – Becca’s convinced he meant to say ‘thank you’ but I can’t tell. If he’d like shouted it or something then I could maybe think okay but it was said in the sweetest voice! [Disclaimer: I just watched a video and he’s actually saying ‘thank you’ in a British accent – oh dear hun, it definitely sounded like ‘fuck you’!]

Up next was ‘So What’ which like is a good song but personally I’d have preferred ‘I’m Fine’ but never mind, ‘So What’ is still good. Except for the video Becca took where you can hear us both singing along and we sound like overexcited sea lions. This was followed by ‘Make It Right’ before finally ‘Army Time’ appeared on the screen, we took out our banners and the boys performed ‘Mikrokosmos’. And just like that Wembley day one was over!

Getting onto the tube with thousands of other fans who had been at Wembley was a nightmare to be honest but luckily the train was mostly empty so we managed to get on. We were right at the front so we could’ve got a seat but unfortunately I hesitated and we missed out, something Becca was very keen to keep reminding me of on the journey back to our hotel as the train was packed full. Luckily we weren’t that many stops away from the venue so we came off the tube; grabbed some snacks and we were soon back at our hotel.

Last time we’d been to London we’d had a late night and an early morning making us both hate our lives but luckily this time we didn’t need to get up early for anything so we were both looking forward to a lie-in. The lie-in wasn’t as long as I’d been hoping for as neither of us slept well – the beds weren’t very comfy, the slightest noise was so loud and it was boiling hot. Irritatingly there wasn’t a window, just a door that leads to the outside which kept me paranoid all night long.

We’d originally intended to make a plan for the day but as usual neither of us had planned anything. However we’d seen everyone walking around with BT21 headbands at the concert the day before so we decided we’d quite like one. We had a quick breakfast at Pret then for some reason decided to visit the Harry Potter shop in Kings Cross. I had more money than I’d had last time so I bought a couple of necklaces whilst Becca was sensible and didn’t buy anything. After that we headed to Camden to visit the BT21 pop up shop.

Jesus Christ. We joined the queue and after a few minutes were told most things had sold out and we were now about an hour away from the front. I asked if they had any headbands left and they said no which was disappointing but we decided to wait anyway as we’d seen other people coming out with pillows and they looked quite cute. It was absolutely boiling in that queue, neither of us had a drink and we were stuck there for legit almost two hours. It was Hell but eventually it was our turn and we went upstairs into the shop. To be honest I feel like it was difficult to appreciate ‘cos I was hot and tired by this point, and fed up of being surrounded by other people. Me and Becca took a couple of photos, grabbed a pillow each (I got Chimmy and Becca got Koya), grabbed a post card and just checked out. Our next stop was a drink, just something hastily grabbed from Superdrug because I couldn’t be arsed to shop around.

BTS Wembley 12

We went to Primark but neither of us bought anything, had lunch in McDonalds and then we desperately needed some more AAA batteries. Becca had checked the battery on her light stick that morning via the app and it was on low so we’d both need to replace them. Neither of us knew where to get batteries from and after a lot of debate Becca rang WHSmith who said they did sell them. On the way back to the hotel we picked some up, had a ten minute rest in the hotel before heading back to Wembley for night two.

BTS Wembley 7

We’d been considering getting some merch but it was mostly just t-shirts so we decided to give it a miss and headed into the venue. Our entrance was a lot easier to find this time and we quickly found our seats. We were much closer than we’d been the day before, the only issue was that the chairs weren’t the comfiest and were a lot smaller than the ones in the stands are so it was a bit more uncomfortable waiting for the concert to start but it didn’t matter too much as we’d be stood up for most of the concert anyway.

The set list was the same as the day before but there were a couple of differences when they stopped to interact with us. The first was that they added a ‘Harry Potter’ section. Jin used stupefy on Jungkook, I can’t remember all the other spells, someone said ‘lumos’ then all our light sticks lit up. V came forward and said ‘purple’ and all our light sticks turned purple. Becca, being the massive nerd she is, was like “That’s not even a spell!” J-Hope cast a ‘fire spell’ which made fire appear from the stage. I’m glad they did that instead of making the typical fish and chips jokes that many groups make when they come to England.

Also when they left after ‘Mic Drop’ just before their encore a message appeared on the screen advising fans of a secret event we were going to do for BTS. When the words ‘Army Sing’ appeared on the screen we were all going to sing the final chorus of ‘Forever Young’. This was really exciting as I’d never done anything like this at a concert before and I turned to Becca and went “I really hope they cry!” Sounds harsh but like I wanted it to be emotional!

After they’d all made their final speeches they prepared to sing ‘Mikrokosmos’ again but the music for ‘Forever Young’ started. It was quite sweet as they didn’t really know what was happening then turned around and saw the lyrics on the screen and realised. I’m so glad they put up the lyrics as I don’t actually know ‘Forever Young’ all that well (they’d played the music video for that about fifty times in the venue so they were clearly preparing us). I know Jimin, Jungkook and J-Hope definitely cried and the others looked close to it if they weren’t actually crying.

BTS Wembley 13

It was actually really emotional, I didn’t cry but I was extremely close to it. Until of course Becca leaned over and went “Yo Taehyung’s highlighter is popping, I need some of that!” to which I responded “Becca, I’m trying to cry.” After that they each made a speech, Suga said he thought they’d messed up with the music when it started playing. I’m glad we went for both nights in the end as I would’ve hated to have missed that moment.

Before we knew it that was it. No more BTS concerts to look forward to. The comedown was hard when I went back to work I’m not gonna lie. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’ll come back to Europe again, do two more nights in London and I can get tickets to both again. Going to both nights was definitely better than just the one. It was nice to finally see them at their own concert and have a bit of energy instead of feeling half dead like I did in Paris.

This was quite long, sorry about that! I hope you enjoyed it anyway. If you were at either of the shows let me know your favourite part!

Favourite K-Pop Subunit Songs

Orange Caramel.png

One thing that threw me off when I first got into K-Pop were subunits. I’d never realised they were a thing and was confused when I couldn’t hear all the girls voices in Girls’ Generation’s ‘Twinkle’ – until I realised this was because it was a subunit and only three of the members were in it! So I figured I’d write a list of my favourite subunit songs!

10. Pristin V (Pristin) – Get It

Pristin V Get It gif

I was waiting for Pristin to have a group comeback last year but unfortunately they didn’t. However they did debut their subunit ‘Pristin V’ and their song ‘Get It’ was pretty good. My friend Jess really loved it and for a while it was the only song she’d play while I was in her car. It is a good song and the MV’s really good!

9. EXO-CBX (EXO) – Kaching!

EXO-CBX Ka-Ching gif.gif

I can’t remember why but me and my friends Becca and Jess once spent an evening watching the MVs for the cringiest K-Pop songs we could find. This was one of the first songs they recommended and to be fair it’s a bad song but like in a way that it’s so bad it’s good. I’m pretty sure it’s a Japanese release and I don’t know, even though it’s so bad I can’t help but like it.

8. Oh My Girl Banana (Oh My Girl) – Banana Allergy Monkey

Banana Allergy Monkey gif

I don’t care what anybody says, I love this song! The dance is really cute, the song is really catchy and I love the MV. I’m glad the other members got to get involved in some way and it wasn’t just focused on the three subunit members. I haven’t been a big fan of Oh My Girl’s recent full-group songs unfortunately so I’m glad they tried something different for their subunit. It was a bit hit and miss with the public but it was a hit with me!

7. LOONA xxyx (LOONA) – love4eva

love4eva gif

From the moment LOONA were announced I wanted to be a fan. I didn’t really keep up with each member being introduced but I was eagerly anticipating their debut. Now I’m normally a fan of cute songs but I just didn’t particularly like ‘Hi High’. So far the only LOONA song I really like is this one. The MV is aesthetic goals and the song is awesome. I will keep trying with LOONA because I want to love their songs!

6. Bastarz (Block B) – Zero for Conduct

Bastarz Zero for Conduct gif.gif

A couple of years ago me and my friend Becca saw Block B in London (we got a wave off Kyung and Zico acknowledged our existence, it was a good night) and they played this song. It was one of the most lit songs from the entire night. I’m so glad I got to see it live, I love this song so much. I don’t think I liked it from the first listen ‘cos when I first got into K-Pop I kept thinking songs were ‘too intense’ but I soon learnt to love it.

5. Orange Caramel (After School) – Catallena

Orange Caramel Catallena gif.gif

I’ve mentioned this before but this was technically the first K-Pop song I heard but I don’t count it because I actually thought it was J-Pop. I was just becoming a fan of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu when this song came up in the recommended and I decided to give it a go. I didn’t really like it at first listen, it’s one of those K-Pop songs that I will admit is a bit strange. After a few listens though I love it and it’s pretty much iconic at this point. What a good song. I love Orange Caramel to be honest, they have some great songs like ‘Lipstick’, ‘My Copycat’ and ‘Aing!’. They’re such a good subunit!

4. TTS (Girls’ Generation) – Twinkle

TTS Twinkle gif.gif

When I first listened to this I got confused about why I couldn’t pick out the other girls voices. I hadn’t been a fan of Girls’ Generation or K-Pop for that long so I didn’t know about subunits but I could pick Sunny’s voice out of most songs. When I couldn’t hear her in this I got confused until I noticed the ‘TTS’ written after ‘Girls’ Generation’ and realised it was a subunit made up of members Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun. SM aren’t very creative with their subunit names, are they? Anyway TTS are some amazing vocalists and have some good songs but my favourite is probably ‘Twinkle’. ‘Dear Santa’ comes a close second followed by ‘Holler’. They just have some awesome songs!

3. Hwasa & Moonbyul (Mamamoo) – Dab Dab

Mamamoo Dab Dab gif.gif

I will argue until the end of time that this song was way better than Solar and Wheein’s ‘Angel’. I’m getting better with slow songs but oh my god, it was boring! Although I did like ‘Dab Dab’ from the beginning it took me a while to properly ‘love’ it but now I do. I’m not much of a fan of the studio version as it seems a bit… I don’t know, dull? Lifeless? The live version was so energetic and so I keep listening to that one instead of the studio version. I’d love to hear it live one day but I doubt that will ever happen.

2. BTS Vocal Line (BTS) – The Truth Untold

BTS Vocal Line gif.gif

I’ve mentioned it before but I don’t particularly like slow songs. I get a bit bored and I prefer something more upbeat and energetic. There are however certain slow songs I will listen to and this one is one of them. To be truthful I find it hard to get into other songs on the album that aren’t the title track so I only gave this one a listen because it was on the set list for the concert I was going to. I quickly ended up loving it and now I listen to it all the time. I love it so much!

1. Strawberry Milk (Crayon Pop) – OK

Strawberry Milk OK gif.gif

I loved this song from the first moment I heard it and love pretty much everything about it. I know the entire dance because I love it, the MV is so cute and so much fun, and the song itself is just amazing. I listened to it on the day I was heading to a convention and over the weekend if there was a break during the con I would head up to my hotel room and listen to this song because I just loved it. It’s definitely my favourite subunit song!

Feel free to leave your favourite subunit songs in the comments!

30 Favourite K-Pop Songs of 2018

TWICE.jpg

I’ve only made this for fun, similar to when I made last year’s post. This is just my opinion, feel free to disagree or leave comments with any songs you think I missed this year! I’m only featuring groups once on the list and the songs could be comebacks, debuts, solo releases and it’s not just K-Pop some Japanese songs may be included. Here goes nothing!

30. KHAN – I’m Your Girl?

KHAN I'm Your Girl.gif

I don’t know much about KHAN but I came across a tweet on Twitter hyping up this song so I decided to check it out. It’s a good song – not my favourite from 2018 but still a good song nonetheless. I wish KHAN every success for the future!

29. Moonbyul ft. Seulgi – Selfish

Selfish gif.gif

Considering Moonbyul is my Mamamoo bias and Seulgi is my Red Velvet bias it’s safe to say that when I heard about this song I was super excited. The girls suited each other so well and it was an amazing collab. We need more collabs between companies, this song was amazing!

28. Oh My Girl – Secret Garden

Oh My Girl Secret Garden gif.gif

Last year Oh My Girl were at number 16 on my list with ‘Colouring Book’ but unfortunately this year they’ve dropped a few places because I wasn’t really a fan of their comebacks this year. I’m not sure what it is because I know I’m not a fan of like the chill vibe in songs but ‘Closer’ was relatively chill and I love that song so much. I’m not sure; I just wasn’t a big fan of Oh My Girl’s releases this year. But ‘Secret Garden’ still made it to the list because it is a sweet song!

27. Pristin V – Get It

Pristin V Get It gif.gif

My friend Jess probably would’ve placed this song a lot higher up the list because she loved this song. I remember at one point she’d give me a lift places and this song would be on repeat the entire time. We went to a K-Pop Night in Birmingham and she requested that the DJ play this song (I don’t think he did which she was disappointed about). It is a good song but not really 100% my taste. Still a good song though!

26. Nature – Some (You’ll be Mine)

Some gif.gif

Nature only debuted this year and I think this was another song I found through people raving on Twitter. At first I’m not sure this is the song for me because it’s quite sweet but then the chorus hits and it goes hard. The girls’ dancing is amazing and the song is really good! I hope they’re another group that continue to do well.

25. EXID – Lady

EXID Lady gif.gif

Everyone’s been raving about EXID’s ‘I Love You’ but truthfully, I wasn’t a massive fan. Obviously I’m over the moon that Solji’s back so I wanted to love it but unfortunately I didn’t. To be truthful I’m not the biggest fan of EXID’s new stuff because it doesn’t feel as iconic as their old stuff but ‘Lady’ was still a good song and I’m still looking forward to future EXID releases.

24. NCT U – Baby Don’t Stop

Baby Don't Stop gif.gif

I feel like the only reason I listen to NCT songs is because Becca sings them on repeat so I end up checking them out because they’re stuck in my head. I first heard this song when on holiday in Greece. We were driving through Crete and Becca was in charge of the playlist and she played this song. I actually enjoyed it so the next day I asked if she could put it on again. I’m not the biggest NCT fan but they do have some bops, this one included!

23. Cosmic Girls – Dreams Come True

Dreams Come True gif.gif

Cosmic Girls came in at 26th on last year’s list with ‘I Wish’ – with hindsight I probably would’ve ranked that song higher because I love it more as time has gone on. No doubt something similar will happen with ‘Dreams Come True’ because although I think it’s a good song, it’s not my favourite song ever. But it’s still a great song; I can’t wait to see what Cosmic Girls release in 2019!

22. Laysha – Pink Label

Pink Label gif.gif

I only discovered Laysha this year with their song ‘Chocolate Cream’ which I instantly loved. So when they dropped their ‘Pink Label’ comeback I was quick to watch it and loved it pretty much straightaway. It’s a cool song!

21. J-Hope – daydream

daydream gif.gif

J-Hope is my BTS bias so when I found out he was releasing a solo song I was over the moon and he definitely didn’t disappoint. I loved pretty much everything about it, the song, the music video… It was all amazing and you could tell how hard he’d worked on it. I’m so proud of my boy and I love this song so much!

20. Hyolyn – Dally

Dally gif.gif

Okay but to have a body and able to dance like Hyolyn… Would actually be a dream come true. This song is absolutely perfect for Hyolyn and she absolutely slayed it. I think it took me a couple of listens to get into but once I did I was gone, it’s such a good song.

19. Jennie – Solo

Solo gif.gif

I’m a bit sick of people moaning that this sounded like ‘Gashina’. I love this song and I think Jennie did amazing. As the first member of Black Pink to do a solo I think she did incredibly well. It’s a good song and I loved it from first listen. I hope more Black Pink members get solos in the future because this one was awesome.

18. 24K – Bonnie n Clyde

24K Bonnie n Clyde gif.gif

So 24K made the announcement this year that Kisu was joining the military and that they’d added a new member called Kiyong. It was their first comeback without Kisu and I was a little disappointed as Kisu’s always been quite high on my bias list. But this song was still amazing and I love Kiyong, he’s so sweet. I went to see them in Paris and had the best time ever; hearing this song live was amazing. I can’t wait to see what 24K comeback with in 2019!

17. Oh My Girl Banhana – Banana Allergy Monkey

Banana Allergy Monkey gif.gif

Okay, there’s been some divide about this song… But I don’t care; I think it’s a cute and fun song! I don’t care if it’s a bit childish; sometimes music can just be fun! I preferred this song to Oh My Girl’s main releases this year and loved that they didn’t take themselves too seriously and just went for it. I wasn’t 100% sure at first but as time went on I loved it a lot. Definitely one of my favourite songs of 2018!

16. Hyo – Sober

Hyo Sober gif.gif

I wasn’t 100% certain on this song at first but after a few listens I suddenly couldn’t stop listening to it. I don’t normally like English versions of K-Pop songs but I ended up preferring the English version to this song for some reason. Hyoyeon just absolutely killed it. I also loved ‘Punk Right Now’ as well but ‘Sober’ was definitely higher up on my list of favourite 2018 songs. I can’t wait to see what she releases in 2019!

15. LOONA yyxy – love4eva

love4eva gif.gif

Pretty much every K-Pop fan has heard of LOONA due to the loyal fan base who constantly spam pretty much everything with comments saying ‘anyway stan LOONA’. Ever since I’d heard about LOONA’s concept I’d wanted to become a fan but didn’t really enjoy their debut. However I loved the yyxy subunit song of ‘love4eva’ right from the first listen. I also love the music video and just pretty much everything about it. It’s such a good song!

14. Oh!GG – ‘Lil Touch

Lil Touch gif.gif

Girls’ Generation were at 24 on my list last year with ‘Holiday’ – it’s safe to say I was way more impressed with this year’s comeback. Although I’m sad that there are only five members left it’s also good in a way because members who previously didn’t get many lines are now getting a chance to shine. I’m so glad Sunny got a chance to showcase her talent, although was annoyed at comments like ‘wow where has Sunny’s talent been all these years?’ Um right there in front of you, she’s just now getting a chance to actually show it. ‘’Lil Touch’ was an amazing song and if you haven’t heard it then you’re honestly missing out.

13. Mamamoo – Egotistic

Egotistic gif.gif

I didn’t really feel like giving Mamamoo much of a chance after listening to ‘Starry Night’ because I wasn’t really a fan and figured I was going off them. Then Jess gave me a lift home and this was her current song that she had on repeat. I gave it a listen on Spotify and actually ended up loving it. It really suits Mamamoo and I feel like they’ve found a sound that suits them. It doesn’t make me like ‘Starry Night’ though.

12. (G)I-DLE – $$$

G(I)DLE gif.gif

Although I liked LATATA I wasn’t over the moon impressed with it. I still liked (G)I-DLE so when this song came up in my recommended I decided to give it a listen and instantly fell in love with it. (G)I-DLE are so talented and I’m so glad I discovered this song because it’s amazing.

11. TWICE – Yes or Yes?

Yes or Yes gif.gif

TWICE can sometimes be a bit hit and miss with their songs but I feel like they’ve done nothing but impress me this year. Each new comeback has been my favourite – I put ‘Yes or Yes’ on the list as that was their latest release and I loved it at first listen. But ‘What is Love’ and ‘Dance the Night Away’ were amazing as well. I can’t wait to see what TWICE release next year but I really hope they take a well-deserved break soon!

10. Black Pink – Forever Young

Black Pink Forever Young gif.gif

I loved DU-DUU DU-DUU at first listen but wasn’t so sure about ‘Forever Young’ initially because once the beat dropped it was almost like listening to a completely different song. But it grew on me and overtime became my favourite Black Pink song. I just love pretty much everything about it – even the beat drop I initially disliked.

9. SoRi – Touch

SoRi Touch gif.gif

I love CocoSori so much but I hadn’t been a big fan of Coco’s solo song. That didn’t put me off trying SoRi’s solo and I’m so glad it didn’t because I LOVED ‘Touch’ so much. I had it on repeat for ages when I first listened to it because I loved it. SoRi is amazing and I love her, she’s so talented. I also loved ‘I’m Ready’ from this year but ‘Touch’ is still definitely my favourite.

8. G-Friend – Memoria

Memoria gif.gif

G-Friend have had some good comebacks this year but there was something about ‘Memoria’ that I automatically loved. This was another song that I had on repeat for ages and is probably my favourite G-Friend song at the moment. It’s just so sweet and so very G-Friend. I love it!

7. gugudan – Not That Type

Not That Type gif.gif

To be honest I’ve never really listened to gugudan – well I did listen to a couple of songs but wasn’t particularly impressed so didn’t bother again for a while. Then I decided to give ‘Not That Type’ a listen and oh my god, I was blown away. This song was amazing and I will definitely be checking out more gugudan in the New Year!

6. AOA – Bingle Bangle

Bingle Bangle gif.gif

A few people were worried that without Choa that AOA would flop, but let’s be real… ‘Bingle Bangle’ was one of the best songs that AOA have ever released. Jimin’s rap part is definitely the best bit but it was a good song all around. I love AOA so much and this is definitely my current favourite song by them.

5. MOMOLAND – BAAM

MOMOLAND BAAM gif.gif

It’s crazy that on last year’s list MOMOLAND were at the bottom of the list with ‘Freeze!’ This year has been a good year for MOMOLAND’s careers since they blew up with their song ‘Bboom Bboom’. Unfortunately MOMOLAND have also low-key become the ‘in group’ to dislike but I love them and I loved ‘BAAM’.  While most people preferred ‘Bboom Bboom’ I much preferred ‘BAAM’. I hate that everyone’s moaning that ‘BAAM’ sounds quite similar – after the success of ‘Bboom Bboom’ of course they were going to play it safe, they need to establish a solid fan base before experimenting with different sounds. I’m proud of all MOMOLAND have achieved and I hope they continue their success in 2019.

4. BTS – Idol

BTS Idol gif.gif

I’d been worried I was going off BTS last year but this year they’ve definitely reclaimed their place as my favourite boy group. It might help that I finally got to see them live at their own concert (after previously seeing them at K-Con Paris). I loved so many BTS songs this year but my favourite title track was almost definitely ‘Idol’. It’s just so much fun and was an amazing song to see live (from what I could see considering I was at the back of the venue).

3. Red Velvet – Really Bad Boy

Really Bad Boy gif.gif

Red Velvet are another group that released bop after bop this year but I especially loved ‘Really Bad Boy’. I know a few people will disagree but I actually preferred it to ‘Bad Boy’, I don’t even care. I loved it from first listen and the music video is amazing. I can’t wait to see what Red Velvet release in 2019 because I have no doubt that it’ll be amazing.

2. Dreamcatcher – What

What gif.gif

I love Dreamcatcher but ‘What’ absolutely blew me away. I’d seen it was released but take a few days to actually get around to listening it – when I did though I loved it instantly, it reminded me of when I’d first heard them with ‘Chase Me’. I couldn’t stop listening to it until eventually I’d listened to it one too many times. But it’s still an amazing song and one of the best of 2019. Here’s hoping Dreamcatcher come back to Europe one day so I can see them live all over again!

1. CLC – Black Dress

Black Dress gif.gif

I did like ‘Hobgoblin’ but nothing could’ve prepared me for how much I loved ‘Black Dress’. It was definitely my favourite comeback of 2019, I knew from the moment it was released that it would be. CLC are amazing and can slay pretty much every concept and they did amazing at this one. I love everything about it and if you haven’t listened to it then what the hell are you doing? I wish CLC all the success in the world for 2019.

Feel free to let me know if you think I missed any amazing comebacks, debuts or whatever in 2019!

Favourite K-Pop Covers

Oh My Girl.jpg

Occasionally K-Pop artists do covers of other artists songs, both K-Pop and western ones. I haven’t listened to tons but I did want to write a list of my top ten favourite covers performed by K-Pop artists. Enjoy!

10. TWICE/G-Friend – Gee

TWICE & G-Friend - Gee.gif

It was awesome to see TWICE and G-Friend covering each other’s songs and interesting too considering they have different sounds. TWICE covered ‘Me Gustas Tu’ and G-Friend covered ‘Like Ooh-Ahh’. Then certain members of both groups came together to cover Girls’ Generation’s ‘Gee’, arguably one of the most iconic girl group songs. It was great to see the two groups collab as there are so many fan wars these days and it was a fun performance for their fans.

9. BESTie – Mamacita

BESTie Mamacita gif.gif

‘Mamacita’ is arguably my favourite Super Junior song so to hear BESTie had covered it was pretty cool. BESTie have amazing vocals and their cover of the song was really good and showcased their talent well. I definitely think they should do more covers in the future.

8. Girls’ Generation/f(x) – Sorry, Sorry

Girls' Generation & f(x) - Sorry Sorry.gif

Another girl group collab! Interactions within companies are always lovely to see so to watch Girls’ Generation and f(x) performing a Super Junior song was awesome. They absolutely rocked it, I just wish they’d done the entire thing. The outfits were good and the whole thing was just on point. I’d love to see another collab stage like this.

7. Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation) – Please Don’t Stop The Music

Hyoyeon Please Don't Stop the Music gif.gif

I grew up listening to Rihanna so was excited to hear Hyoyeon had covered this song. It suited her voice so well and I love it when she gets solo songs because it proves the haters wrong – Hyoyeon CAN sing and I’m sick of people saying she can’t. A song like ‘Please Don’t Stop The Music’ was perfect for Girls’ Generation’s dancing queen and I’d love to hear more Hyoyeon covers in the future – although her own solo songs are amazing too!

6. 24K – Talk Dirty to Me

24K Talk Dirty to Me gif.gif

24K usually do a few covers at their shows, at their most recent one Jeonguk danced to Black Pink’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’. Back when I first saw them they performed this along with a few other covers including Big Bang’s ‘Bang Bang Bang’. ‘Talk Dirty to Me’ was one of my favourite covers of the night, I remember getting so lit with Becca watching this at the Amsterdam concert even though I hate watching back the video I took because all you can hear is me yell “TORK DIRTEE TO MEH” and then a lot of screaming. But honestly, it was lit!

5. Dreamcatcher – Really Really

Dreamcatcher Really Really gif.gif

To be 100% honest with you I didn’t like this song until Dreamcatcher covered it. I didn’t really give Winner a chance but when Dreamcatcher dropped their cover I loved it. I think I still low-key prefer Dreamcatcher’s version and I wish they’d performed it in full at their concert, they sang a little bit of it but not all of it. It was a good cover, they do quite a lot of covers so I’ll definitely keep checking them out!

4. Jessica Jung – Gravity

Jessica Gravity gif.gif

I included this song in my ’10 Slow Songs I actually Like’ list and that felt like a bit of an achievement for me. When it starts it doesn’t sound like a song I’d be interested in but Jessica’s vocals really suck me in and I just love everything about it. It’s an amazing cover and really showcases Jessica’s amazing voice. I need to listen to more of her solo stuff.

3. Sooyoung (Girls’ Generation) – Sway

Sooyoung Sway gif.gif

This isn’t necessarily a song I would’ve picked for Sooyoung to cover but I’m so glad they did because the whole performance was amazing from Sooyoung’s dancing to the vocals to her outfit, the whole thing was just perfect. Sooyoung is an amazing singer and it’s a shame she doesn’t get as much of an opportunity in Girls’ Generation to showcase that. Hopefully we’ll get more solo stuff in the future!

2. Mamamoo – Delilah

Mamamoo Delilah gif

The vocals in this absolutely blow my mind. Solar, Wheein and Hwasa absolutely go for those high notes and it kills me every time. And Moonbyul’s rapping definitely brings a bit of individuality to the song and they owned the entire thing. I just love the entire thing, it gives me goosebumps pretty much every time I listen to it and I love it.

1. Sunny (Girls’ Generation) – 3

Sunny 3 gif.gif

I’m not really sure why this is my favourite but I’ve listened to it a ton of times. Sunny is my absolute Girls’ Generation bias and it really annoys me when people claim she doesn’t get many lines because she’s not a good singer. Yes, she is and this song proves that. It was the perfect song for Sunny to sing and I love the entire performance. I wish I’d been able to see it live but there’s no chance of that now. I just have the cover on my iPod to listen to over and over again.

Well there we go, there’s my ten favourite K-Pop covers – feel free to leave me a comment with some recommendations and your own favourites!

Top 10 Favourite 24K Songs

24K 3

It’s no secret that I’m a massive 24K fan. I’ve seen them live four times now and definitely intend to see them again if/when they next return to Europe. I don’t care if I have to travel abroad. I will do it! Anyway, I’ve written a few lists of my favourite songs for other groups so I decided to do one for 24K. Here goes nothing!

10. U R SO CUTE

24K U R So Cute gif.gif

I don’t care what anybody says, I love this song even if it doesn’t sound anything like the music they release now. They don’t perform it live anymore and like I don’t really blame them but I low-key wish they did. I would be absolutely jamming. “I’m breaking down!”

9. Our Block

24K Our Block gif.gif

This song goes hard and I live for it. It’s not my absolute favourite but it is lit and I love it when they perform it live. When I was first getting into 24K this was one of the songs that Jess recommend to me and I really liked it from first listen. Definitely recommend this one.

8. Still 24K

24K Still 24K gif.gif

This song seems really important since 24K have been through a few line-up changes and now the only original members left are Cory and Kisu, and Kisu’s currently in the military. Regardless of the member changes the group have grown and come far and this song showcases that. I think Hongseob and Changsun were just added to the group at this point and I couldn’t imagine 24K without them. I love this song and I wish I’d watched this MV before watching the ‘Bingo’ one because ‘Bingo’ continues from this one and sort of makes more sense if you’ve seen this one first.

7. Superfly

24K Superfly gif.gif

This was 24K’s ‘popular’ song, if you know one 24K song it’s probably Superfly. And it is good, it definitely deserved the fame it got and so much more! The dance goes hard man and it’s another song that’s amazing to see live, it always gets the crowd really lit. The song is really good and it’s another one of the first songs I listened to when I became a fan.

6. Honestly

24K Honestly gif.gif

Okay I’ll admit something, I hadn’t actually listened to this song until they sang it to me. And I really love the song but because it’s associated with that memory I do tend to freak out a bit whilst listening to it. But it’s still such a sweet song and one I definitely recommend!

5. Bingo

24K Bingo gif 2.gif

This was the first song I ever listened to by them which seems so long ago because I’m absolute trash now. When I first saw them live last January this was pretty much the only song I knew confidently. I’d listened to other songs but I ‘knew’ this one and proper went for it at the show. It was amazing and it’s always one of my favourites when they perform it live.

4. To for You

Kisu gif.gif

This song was written by Kisu and was included on the latest album because he wouldn’t be taking part in promotions due to being enlisted in the military. The title is based on the fandom name which is ‘24U’. On their latest Europe tour Kisu had prepared a video for at the concert which was an English cover of this song which had most of the audience crying. It’s one of those songs that I stick on whenever I’m feeling stressed and I think it’s one of my favourites off the album. It just really chills me out and I’m glad this song exists.

3. Bonnie n Clyde

24K Bonnie n Clyde gif.gif

24K’s latest comeback and it was absolutely amazing. They introduced their new member Kiyong and I’m sorry but he’s actually the sweetest person on the planet? He’s just so cute! I wasn’t sure on first listen but after a few I was sold and now it’s one of my favourite 24K songs. The boys just continue to impress with every comeback and I wish they had more fans to appreciate their amazing songs.

2. Hey You

24K Hey You gif 2.gif

For a long time this was my favourite song because I love the dance and I just think the song is really lit. I’m pretty sure Jinhong and Hui were introduced for this comeback but they wore masks so as not to reveal their identities. It’s such a good song, please listen to this if you’re gonna listen to one of their songs!

1. Only You

24K Only You gif.gif

This was the first comeback they had when I was officially a fan! And I loved everything about it. The music video is aesthetic goals, the boys look amazing and I love the dance. I loved it upon first listen and I’m so sad I didn’t own the album at the London Fan Meet because I could’ve had a signed copy BUT NO I was too broke. I did get given the album for my birthday though which was good. I definitely recommend this song, it’s amazing!

There we have it, my ten favourite 24K songs – feel free to leave your favourites in the comments!

24K in Paris Concert Review

24K Europe Tour.jpg

When 24K announced they were returning to Europe I was over the moon – until I realised that they weren’t coming to England this time. I was desperate to see them again but with my trip to Asia coming up this year I did wonder about giving it a miss. Or… Going to one of the shows and sleeping at the airport to do it on the cheap. Luckily I received quite a good tax return this year meaning I could turn all that into spending money for Asia and book my flights, hotel and ticket for the concert guilt free.

I debated about which show to go to but in the end settled on Paris because wherever I went I wouldn’t have much time to sightsee and I’ve already been to Paris and am going again in October. Plus it was the closest country to England so it seemed like a good idea. I got a bit excited and booked my flights and hotel before the tickets were even released.

Buying the tickets was a bit of a nightmare – they went on sale at 5PM UK time and I was debating staying at work to book them but luckily decided to leave work early to buy them at home. Just as well because the website went extremely slowly causing quite a bit of stress. I was going out with my friends that night and had to be showered and ready to go to Hirst’s for 7:30PM. Becca came to mine at about 7:10PM and as she stressed about her make-up I was still stressing about the tickets – with five minutes to spare before we were meant to leave I managed to secure a gold ticket and headed out to have a good time safe in the knowledge that everything was now sorted.

I decided to fly to Paris the day before the concert so I could get rested and that was good ‘cos it meant I could take three days off work instead of two. I’d asked my friends Becca and Jess if they wanted to come but neither of them had the holiday or the money so I had to set off on my own. On a plane. And I’m an extremely nervous flyer.

I had already flown to Poland by myself earlier on this year but I was still terrified at the thought of another flight alone and didn’t help myself by showing up at the airport way too early. I’d gone through security and had lunch with another two hours left to spare before my flight. I managed to distract myself by watching Friends episodes on my phone until finally it was time! Luckily I was sat next to one of the nicest women I’ve met in my life who told me she was a nervous flyer but actually spent most of her time comforting me on the way over! She kept calling me her little sister and tried to teach me some French but I was a bit useless and don’t remember most of it.

Arriving at Charles de Gaulle was just as stressful because the airport was massive and I found it difficult to navigate and then I had the travel ticket stress. The machine wanted me to pay 50 euros for a three day ticket but I wasn’t sure if it was the right type anyway. In the end I found a lady who sold me a week pass for 25 euros but told me I’d need to stick a little photo of myself on the travel card. She seemed genuinely surprised to find out I don’t carry a little photo of myself around with me and told me I’d need to get one. I didn’t bother; I didn’t really use the metro that much anyway.

I’d been worried I’d find the trains a bit difficult on my own but I’d had experience on the French metro with my friends and it was relatively easy to navigate so I got to my hotel quite quickly. It was a nice hotel, it was clean and I felt safe but unfortunately the room was stifling hot so I didn’t get the best night’s sleep. But I was still up bright and early the next day to get to the venue for the first check-in!

I got there at 11:20 and there were already quite a few fans there and I knew I had to get a number but I wasn’t sure who to ask and I felt a bit intimidated so I just sat on my own and waited to see what happened. About five or ten minutes later 24K themselves walked down the steps I’d just been down and headed into the venue. I tweeted about it but shout out to the French 24U who were obviously excited about seeing the boys but kept their distance and didn’t scream at them as they came down. A few people tried to take pictures but put their phones/cameras away when the manager asked them not to.

I eventually saw a family going up to get their numbers so I plucked up the courage to go and get mine and a really nice staff member explained to me in English about the fan projects, when things were happening etc. She was actually amazing, she’d come down the queue every so often and give updates or instructions in French, look at me and remember I spoke English and translated it for me. I didn’t get her name but she had dip-dyed blue hair and she was fab!

At 11:30 we all queued up for ‘check-in’ which took a while and then we waited for the selfie tickets to go on sale at 12. I somehow got adopted by the family who had gotten their numbers just before me – they didn’t speak any English but when they saw I was alone they offered to stay with me and we got by with our limited understanding of each other’s languages and gestures. The Mom even bought me a bottle of water and nothing for her kids – you know like in Harry Potter when Ron’s Mom treats Harry like the favourite child? It was like that. They were with a little kid and 24K gave her a lot of attention, she was really sweet and absolutely deserved it.

My plan had been to grab my selfie tickets at 12 then do a little sightseeing before having to come back for the 2:30 check-in. This was super optimistic as the tickets didn’t go on sale until about 1PM and then it took another hour to actually buy them. I went for Cory, Jeonguk and Hongseob as I couldn’t afford every members. I’m really glad selfie tickets were an option this year but queuing for them was not fun as we had to queue outside and it was boiling hot.

I was so tired and hungry after that that I got some food at the burger stand opposite the venue and was soon joined by the French family who had some food too. The fan sign was supposed to be starting at 3 so I went to rejoin the queue but unfortunately this was delayed too and due to the size of the room that the fan sign was in we had to queue outside again, right by the river with no shade. I wouldn’t have minded too much but I was alone again at this point so I had no one to hold my space while I got myself some water. In the end I had to take the chance and ran over to buy myself two bottles because I was dying. By the time I got back the boys were in the room and we were being sat inside in about groups of 6 – 10.

Luckily I made friends with the three girls next to me in the queue who were all super nice. Their first language was French but they also spoke English so they mainly spoke to each other in French as that was their comfortable language then translated the important parts for me and if there were any announcements they kept me updated.

I was nervous about the fan sign because I was low-key (high-key) hoping the boys would remember me from the London fan meet (which I wrote about here). The night had meant so much to me that I was kind of hoping they’d remember. But unfortunately I realised they didn’t when I handed my album with my name on it to Cory and he asked me if he was pronouncing my name correctly.

I’ll be honest and say I was a little disappointed at the time but I’m kind of over it now ‘cos like to me it meant a lot but to them I guess they were just doing their job. Like when I worked at Blists Hill and people had their weddings and stuff… I don’t remember any of the brides names even though it was their special day or anything? It would’ve been nice to be remembered but they meet a lot of people so I’m not upset that they didn’t. I was in the moment a little bit but not anymore.

Cory signed my album, held my hand and said he hoped I had a good time so I thanked him and moved on to the next member which was Jeonguk. He attempted pronouncing my name, held my hand and then… The person next to me was still talking to Changsun so I couldn’t move over. So Jeonguk just looked at me without saying anything and I got so nervous that I started laughing. He gave me a weird look so I laughed harder ‘cos it was so awkward and I managed to say “It’s nice to meet you… Again” and finally the person next to me had moved on so he smiled at me and pushed my album down to Changsun.

He was really sweet, he made sure he was pronouncing my name correct and then held my hand before pushing it down to Jinhong. Jinhong had intimidated the fuck out of me last time but my interaction with him this year was nicer. I was wearing a t-shirt with two cats sat on a banana and it said ‘banana’ at the bottom so him and Changsun, who was free, both started saying ‘ban-AN-a’ and I didn’t really know what to say so I just laughed. I held his hand too and then he pushed the album down to Kiyong.

Kiyong’s the new member and I’m quite proud of 24U for being so welcoming of him – I love Red Velvet and the fandom but there are still people who bitch about the fact Yeri was added to the group whereas when Kiyong was announced everybody loved him before we even had any photos or information about him. He’s so cute, he checked the pronunciation of my name too (a common theme) and held my hand. It was nice to meet him for the first time and he’s honestly so sweet.

He pushed my album down to Hongseob and it was mostly the same, checking the pronunciation of my name, hand-holding and then he made the ‘ban-AN-a’ comment as I was walking off so I laughed. Then we had to head back outside to queue up again for the hi-touch and group photo.

Although it was torture standing outside in the heat to queue up for things I don’t blame Skey Ace for it. At the last minute there was a venue change and I think they did their best in the circumstances they were given – it was a strange venue but I’d have been fucked if they’d arranged it for a different date or something so I’m glad they got a different venue and made it work. It just sucked going back outside because by the time I got back in my face was tomato red and it just wasn’t an attractive look.

It was nice making friends with the three girls as they offered to go and get two of us some water while we watched their spaces so it made the queue a lot better especially since we were all freaking out about the fan sign. It felt like we waited a bit less this time and we were soon heading in for the hi-touch. I ended up being second in the line which I wasn’t a fan of and nearly ended up going first because I thought the girl in front of me wasn’t going to.

Maybe it was because of the delays or number of things going on but things felt a bit more rushed this year than at the London Fan Meet and this time at the hi-touch the boys just went for hi-fives instead of holding hands. Which like is fine, it was still good! The girl in front of me ended up apologising to Jinhong so I had to stand awkwardly behind her for a while which was weird.

Then we went around for the group photo and two people could stand at the ends and one girl ran in front of us to stand by Cory and I’m so awkward that I just kneeled anywhere on the floor ‘cos I didn’t wanna be a nuisance. The photos won’t be released until after the tour but I probably look a right mess and I have no idea who I was in front of – I have a feeling it was Jeonguk but I won’t know until they’re released.

After the group photo we queued up outside again to wait for the selfie event. One of the girls I was with told me that at the other venues the selfie event had been held in private rooms so it was just you, the member and some of the staff obviously. She asked one of the staff if this was the case here and we were told no all the members would be in the same room.

It was a bit weird to be honest, the members were just dotted around the room and you handed in your selfie ticket at the desk, they shouted out who you had a selfie with and this woman held onto my arm for a moment and then kind of just left me without doing anything. There were obviously other fans in the room but Cory had just finished up a selfie so I went over and handed him my phone and he was like “Hey! Let’s do this!” I like the selfie but as it was my first one I’m at my most red and I don’t like my face in it.

It was awkward to navigate the room because it wasn’t very big and you were kind of just left to find the members by yourself. Jeonguk was next to Cory so I headed over to him and he was drinking some water and I felt bad ‘cos the moment I approached him he tried to quickly finish up. I think I liked this selfie the best and I set it as my phone background.

20180807_180805.jpg

Then I headed over to Hongseob who was just finishing up with somebody else and that selfie came out good too. I thanked him and turned around and bumped into Kiyong and I feel awful because he smiled and was like “Hi!” To be honest I’m not sure the staff would’ve known whether I’d had a ticket for him or not so I could’ve just gone for it but that would’ve been rude and unfair so I awkwardly smiled back and headed out of the room because that was all my selfies that I’d paid for.

Luckily after that we didn’t have to go back outside we could head downstairs into the venue and we had to sit down whilst waiting for them which was a bit awkward but also a blessing as we got downstairs at about 6:45 and the concert didn’t start until 8. Most of the safety announcements were in French but I was still nearby one of the girls from the queue so she very kindly translated everything for me. She was fab but I didn’t get anybody’s names so if the girl in the yellow top who hung around with the awkward British girl is reading this, you were fab and thank you for being so nice! Unfortunately we had to move so we got split up a bit and I ended up by a group of girls who said something to me and when I replied they were like “Oh My God, you’re British too!” and I ended up chilling with them most of the night. It turned out we’d been to the exact same 24K concerts last year – both London shows and the Amsterdam one!

Eventually the boys came out and were full of energy as per usual. I can’t remember the entire set-list but I’m pretty sure they opened with ‘Superfly’. They performed a few songs then went off stage to change while a video played. We were told that in order for all fans to see we had to sit down while the videos were playing which you can imagine was a bit awkward but the videos were worth it. Kisu had prepared a video of him singing ‘To for You’ as a surprise as he couldn’t attend the concert himself.

After the video 24K came back and performed a couple of songs before starting the Q&A. At first Jinhong read the questions out in English and the members would reply in Korean or some English and this was then translated to French by one of the staff. Cory told us he was losing his voice so he didn’t take as much part in the Q&A as he usually would do. Hongseob was hilarious and kept saying “Next Question! Fast Q&A!” Then Jinhong gave the piece of paper with the questions to the translator so at this point I didn’t understand much as the questions were in French and their Korean answers were translated to French. Me and the other Brits I was with tried to understand the questions but it was a bit hopeless, however the cheers from the French 24U’s suggested that the answers were good.

There were more songs and units – vocal unit, dance unit, hip-hop unit. I remember Jeonguk dancing to Black Pink’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ which was lit as fuck. They sang my favourites ‘Hey You’ and ‘Only You’. During ‘Blue’ we all put a yellow post-it note over our phone torches and waved them in the air then when they came out for the encore and performed the Bonnie n Clyde remix we all had banners to wave. I love fan projects like that.

I was sad when the concert ended but was also low-key relieved ‘cos I could grab some water and I was eager to get back to my hotel and put my pyjamas on. I swear my legs were just pure sweat and denim at this point, it had been such a hot day. I literally sat in front of the hotel rooms’ air con drinking water for like half-an-hour when I got back, it was such a relief.

Also I managed to completely destroy my handbag. I’d popped some chocolate bars into the bottom of the bag in case I got hungry during the day but unfortunately my bag was so full of stuff that I couldn’t reach them. I do remember giving one a feel in the queue and they were very squishy so I decided to deal with them when I got back. They had melted so badly out of the packet that they were all over my stuff. Luckily my book had been at the bottom and that took the most damage because I had slipped my signed Bonnie n Clyde album in there but as it was at the top it didn’t get any chocolate on it. I managed to save everything except for the charger for my battery pack and the bag itself. It was brand new and when I got back to the UK I had to go back to Primark to buy one of the exact same kind. I was honestly gutted.

I’m so glad I went, it was definitely worth the money and I’m already counting down the days until their next Europe tour so I can see them again. Should hopefully be after me and my friends go to Asia and assuming I’m still in employment I should be able to travel again if necessary. Here’s hoping that’s not necessary and they come to the UK next time but I’ll still travel if they don’t!

What I loved the most about this tour the most was probably the fans – when I went to the London Fan Meet I found that nobody really spoke to me in the queue or inside and I felt pretty lonely even though I’d obviously loved the actual Fan Meet itself. But this time tons of people went out of their way to stop me from feeling lonely, even if they didn’t speak my language. It was worth it just for that I think.
