Harry Potter Films: Worst to Best

Harry Potter.jpg

It’s no secret that I’m a massive Harry Potter fan and since watching Cursed Child my love for the Harry Potter universe has only intensified. So I wanted to put the Harry Potter films in order of my least favourite to my most favourite. I won’t be taking into account the books at all because that would be a completely separate list. So, here goes nothing!

8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One (David Yates, 2010)

Deathly Hallows Part 1.jpg

I used to absolutely despise this film because what actually happens? Not an awful lot. When I went to an eight film Harry Potter marathon over the span of a weekend I was dreading re-watching this film but to be fair, it wasn’t as bad a second time. But it’s still definitely the worst film out of the series because it’s just building up to something that’s not delivered because it all happens in part two. Although I wouldn’t go as far to say I hate the film anymore it’s definitely the worst one in the series.

7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two (David Yates, 2011)

Deathly Hallows Part 2.jpeg

Part 2 is massively more interesting because there’s the battle of Hogwarts and generally just a lot more going on but it’s still towards the bottom of my list. Probably because although I did like the Deathly Hallows movies I still prefer the films that are set completely at Hogwarts, showing lessons and general student life (and obviously Harry, Ron and Hermione’s adventures). It’s also the end of the series which is just generally quite sad.

6. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (David Yates, 2009)

Half Blood Prince.jpg

I know I said I wasn’t going to bring the books into this but actually the book helped me enjoy the film. When I first saw this movie I don’t think I really understood it (I was 12 I think when it was released) and I hadn’t read the books. Years later, when I turned 19 I finally got into reading the Harry Potter series and found myself feeling deflated when I got to the Half Blood Prince book – I was surprised when I ended up really enjoying the book. So I gave the film another chance and ended up enjoying it this time!

It’s still not one of my favourites because I think I enjoyed the book (I keep breaking my own rules) a lot more but I still appreciate this as a film and love it a lot more than I used to. I love that there’s more Luna in this film since she doesn’t enter until the fifth film and she’s one of my favourite characters. I also love the scene where Harry’s taken the liquid luck and goes to Aragog’s funeral with Hagrid and Professor Slughorn. So yes, it’s definitely a film I love more now that I’m older.

5. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Chris Columbus, 2001)

Philisophers Stone.jpg

It’s crazy that I was five when this film came out and that for a while this was the only Harry Potter film to exist. I remember owning it on video and I’d rewatch it over and over again. I tried to get into the books but I just couldn’t do it at the time but I was more than happy to sit and watch the film. I think it’s one of those that because it’s been around for so long though that I’ve seen it so many times that I couldn’t say it’s my favourite. I actually haven’t seen this one in a while, I wouldn’t mind rewatching it.

Ultimately, how can you not love the first film? The film where we’re introduced to Hogwarts for the first time and are introduced to all our iconic favourite characters. This film is a classic and I don’t think a day will ever come where I dislike it.

Quick story – I was at work and told my colleague, Sue, who sits next to me that I was going to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the theatre and she told me she’d never seen a Harry Potter film. I was honestly horrified and was even more horrified to find out my other colleague Shirley hadn’t seen any either. I thought this was weird but I was even more horrified when I asked our seventeen year old apprentice Kelsey what her favourite Harry Potter film was and she replied “I actually haven’t seen any of them.” What are you guys doing? These films are absolute gems!

4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Alfonso Cuaron, 2004)

Prisoner of Azkaban.jpg

I remember going to see this at the cinema when it was released and it was probably the first Harry Potter film I’d seen at the cinema. Unfortunately I was probably a little bit too young to appreciate it at the time and I remember getting a bit bored so I ran up and down the aisle pretending I was riding a broom stick like Harry (then came home and borrowed our brush so I could carry on pretending in the garden, haha!). Now that I’m older I love this film and fully appreciate it.

There are so many things to love about this film; Harry riding on Buckbeak just looked absolutely amazing, getting introduced to the marauders, Harry casting his first patronus, time travel… There’s just so much to love! This is another film I really want to rewatch now; I haven’t seen it for ages.

3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Chris Columbus, 2002)

Chamber of Secrets.jpg

For a long time this was my favourite film from the Harry Potter franchise but unfortunately I think it’s one that I watched too many times. I do still love it obviously but I don’t know. I’m not even particularly sure what made it my favourite, it just was. Interesting fun fact for you all even though this book was the second shortest it is the longest Harry Potter film. It’s just one of those films that you can’t help but love – until you watch it too many times. But it’s definitely still one of my favourites.

2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Mike Newell, 2005)

Goblet of Fire.jpg

When I ask people what their favourite Harry Potter movie is most of them say this one and I can see why. It’s packed full of adventure and it’s sort of the last light-hearted one before everything goes to shit and Voldemort comes back and all that jazz. There are so many iconic and funny moments in this one and I never got bored of rewatching it. Also it’s got a lot of Cedric Diggory in it which is always fun – until the inevitable happens and then it’s just sad again.

Every Harry Potter fan always agrees this movie is awesome and it stays pretty true to the book so it’s a good one to watch!

1. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (David Yates, 2007)

Order of the Phoenix.jpg

Back when I’d only seen the films this one was my favourite. I’m not really sure why, I liked the beef with Umbridge and the secrecy around creating Dumbledore’s Army – it was really exciting! It’s been my favourite for ages and most people argue with me and say it’s boring but I completely disagree. It’s definitely my number one favourite.

Due to it being my favourite film I was looking forward to reading the book and this book is my favourite too. However it’s sort of made the film a bit disappointing. This is the longest book and yet this film I believe is the shortest. I suppose a lot if had to be cut ‘cos it does have a lot of side plots, what with Hermione starting SPEW and Ron joining the Quidditch team but even if they’d given these side plots a little nod that would’ve been enough if they didn’t have time for the entirety of it.

Well there you go; those are my favourite Harry Potter films from worst to best! Feel free to leave a comment of your favourite Harry Potter movies.

Ten Favourite Harry Potter Characters

Harry Potter Still

Here I am again shamelessly stealing another blog post idea from Becca, you can find her ten favourite characters here [x]. Usually I’m quite good at putting things in order of how much I like them without getting stressed but I just couldn’t do that here so I’ve had to write the list in no particular order, these are just ten characters from the Harry Potter series that I love.

Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger gif.gif

Who didn’t want to be Hermione Granger when they were younger, let’s be real? I think I love her even more as an adult now that I’ve read the books to be honest. Everything about her from the amount of times she saved Harry and Ron’s asses, to her standing up for Elves rights (even if they didn’t want her to) and being top of her class from the get go even though she was muggle-born, Hermione was just an absolute badass. Listen, the girl managed to always figure out whatever drama was going on with Harry whilst maintaining good grades. I could barely maintain good grades full stop let alone having to literally save the wizarding community on top of that. She also literally wiped her parent’s memories of her to keep them safe whilst going to help Harry fight against Voldemort. I won’t stand for anyone talking sh*t about Hermione because the girl was amazing.

Cedric Diggory

Cedric Diggory gif.gif

I did find it sad when Cedric died in the movie but I think it’s worse when you’ve read the book because really you don’t get to know much about Cedric in the movies whereas in the books you get more of a feel for who he really was. The kind of guy who won a Quidditch match against Gryffindor but then called for a rematch because it wasn’t a fair win. As much as I loved the stage version, ‘Cursed Child’ honestly did Cedric dirty. Do not sit here and tell me that Cedric Diggory would’ve become a death eater just for being humiliated out of the Triwizard Tournament. Everyone has faced humiliation, it doesn’t turn them into a bloody terrorist? Especially not Cedric who probably would’ve watched Harry win then believed his story when he told him Voldemort had returned. Cedric would’ve 100% been on Harry’s side in Order of the Phoenix, no one will ever convince me otherwise or change my mind.

Professor McGonagall

Professor McGonagall gif.gif

What a badass professor, let’s all be real. The woman was amazing, a great teacher and quick to come to her student’s defence at all times. She absolutely whooped Snape’s ass at the battle of Hogwarts and was quick to start preparing everyone. She also never underestimated her student’s abilities and was just generally an amazing professor. If I wasn’t in Hufflepuff then I’d want to be in Gryffindor just so she could be my head of house to be honest.

Hagrid

Hagrid gif.gif

Someone once told me they disliked Hagrid because instead of fixing any problems he just added more and like I can see what they’re saying considering he literally brought a giant to the school in year five and bought a dragon in year one but like the man has a heart of gold and I will always defend Hagrid. He loved Harry unconditionally and extended that to his friends and was always inviting them over for tea and a chat like what a bro. He also did his absolute best to be a decent Care of Magical Creatures professor, a position that was perfect for him (even though he did ask his students to literally buy a book that tried to eat them but you know, no one’s perfect) and honestly Hagrid was just a great guy.

Scorpius Malfoy

Scorpius and Draco.jpg

Right so I hate the Cursed Child plot because it’s just ridiculous but if one good thing came from the book/play it was Scorpius Malfoy. He could’ve easily been written as Draco Malfoy 2.0 but he wasn’t, he was a huge dork with a heart of gold and honestly I’m so glad. I loved everything about his personality and seeing the stage show just made me love his character even more. Scorpius would be an amazing friend because he’s funny, loyal and just generally a top guy. He literally had Albus’ back from day one and went along with his crazy schemes even if he didn’t 100% agree with them – they both got into massive amounts of trouble for what they did but Scorpius still helped Albus repair any damage they’d done. What a great guy, probably my favourite Harry Potter character to be honest.

Luna Lovegood

Luna Lovegood gif.gif

Luna is another absolute favourite character because although I feel like she’d be a tiny bit annoying to know in real-life she was another character with a heart of gold who would’ve made friends with anyone as long as they were nice to her. Luna became everyone’s friend quite late in the series but she was always willing to help when she could and loved all her new friends so much that she painted them in her bedroom. She was lovely, had a lot of strong beliefs and remained positive even though she literally watched her Mother horrifically die and then came to Hogwarts where everyone called her ‘Loony’. I love Luna, watch me fight someone.

Ron Weasley

Ron Weasley gif.gif

Right I love Holly Bourne but I once went to a book talk and she said “Unpopular opinion but I dislike Ron, he just has to accept that he’s not the chosen one and get on with it.” Now I love Holly Bourne but Oh My God. Ron came from a family with what, five older brothers and a younger sister where he lived off hand-me-downs and although he had a loving family it’s safe to say he probably didn’t get much one to one attention. Now imagine he gets to Hogwarts, finds a best friend and for the next six years of school everyone prefers his best friend. Not to mention his best friend is massively rich whereas Ron can barely afford to pay for his school books each year. So yeah, he gets salty sometimes – I’m sure I would too if I was in his situation. But at the end of the day Ron still always has Harry’s back no matter what.

Also, the movies absolutely did Ron dirty because they show Ron as basically disliking Hermione whereas in the books he was always sticking up for her. The main one being in the movie when Snape’s like “Oh you’re a know-it-all” to Hermione and movie Ron says “He’s got a point you know” WHEREAS WHAT BOOK RON ACTUALLY SAID WAS “You asked us a question and she knows the answer, why ask if you don’t want an answer?”.

I could honestly write like a ten page essay on how Ron was an amazing friend to both Harry and Hermione and was super important to the overall plot but I think I’ll end this here before I go off on a proper rant. In short, Ron was a great friend and I will defend him no matter what.

Draco Malfoy

Draco Malfoy gif.gif

One of my many issues with J K Rowling was that in the books although she included lines like “The world is not split into good people and death eaters” she seemed to write as if the world was still split into good people and bad people for most characters. I feel like if she’d wanted to she could’ve written a decent redemption arc for Draco because I don’t think he was completely a bad guy, he just had a tendency to repeat what his Father had told him especially the whole ‘mudblood’ thing. But I think by his seventh year when he was literally watching his class mates die and kind of figuring out that maybe his parent’s weren’t good people he could’ve had more of a redemption – I mean he lied to his parents about recognising Harry in the Malfoy Manor and I’m so mad they cut that scene in Deathly Hallows where Draco’s like “Potter!” and runs back across and throws him his wand like that was perfect redemption for Draco but no.

Another thing I liked about Cursed Child was how Draco was written. He really cared about Scorpius but he struggled to have a relationship with him because of his own upbringing. I feel like if Cursed Child got one thing right then it was definitely the Malfoy’s.

Ginny Weasley

Ginny Weasley gif.gif

Okay let me talk about Ginny for a second, the girl that literally got possessed by Lord Voldemort at 11/12 years old and got scared but still tried to do the right thing. She spent the next few years working hard, joined Dumbledore’s Army without question and wasn’t afraid to call bulls*it when she saw it. She went back to Hogwarts even when it was overrun with Death Eater’s, refused to practice the cruciatus curse on other students and generally just was a complete badass. She also didn’t stand for any bullying and was always defending Luna, Harry or whoever else needed it. Honestly Ginny is so underappreciated when she’s genuinely a great character and also a brilliant Mom in ‘Cursed Child’.

Neville Longbottom

Neville Longbottom gif.gif

Last but not least we have Neville, another character who I think got a little robbed in the movies simply because they didn’t explore his backstory enough. When I’d only seen the movies I assumed that Neville’s parents were dead, it wasn’t until I read the book that I realised his parents had been tortured into madness and were still alive. Neville didn’t exactly have a great childhood considering his whole family thought he was a squib and they only discovered he wasn’t when his uncle literally dropped him out of a window. Yet just like Luna, Neville remained a kind person and even though he was bullied at Hogwarts by Draco and his friends he still remained a kind person.

Neville is the reason that I cannot accept Severus Snape’s so called ‘redemption’. Let’s talk for a minute, Neville’s parents were literally tortured into madness by a death eater yet what was Neville’s biggest fear when he was up against the boggart? Snape. That’s not right. Snape was Neville’s teacher for crying out loud, he should’ve encouraged him to do better not constantly put him down. Perhaps Neville would’ve been amazing at potions if he’d had an actual teacher who wasn’t a complete and utter arsehole.

Basically, Neville was a great character and actually really smart in some subjects like the guy was brilliant with Herbology and was just generally really important to the overall story. Neville’s another character that I would probably fight someone over if I genuinely had to.

So there we go, those are ten of my favourite Harry Potter characters – I got into way more rants than I thought I would that could’ve gone on for a lot longer if I’d wanted them to but there you go. Now I just want to go home and read the entire Harry Potter series from start to finish. Maybe I will!

The Movies Tag

The Movies Tag.jpg

I decided to do another tag because I think they’re fun and I chose this one specifically because I love movies. So here goes nothing!

1. Favourite movie of all time?

Great, I’m stuck on the first question. It used to be ‘Orphan’ as my top answer but now I’d say ‘Room’ because I just love everything about that film.

Room still.png

2. Favourite scene from that movie?

When Jack manages to help the police find ‘room’ and they rescue Ma and she reunites with Jack. Makes me weep buckets every time I watch that scene.

3. Favourite actors/actresses?

Oh here we go. I never used to get the hype over actors and actresses like musicians I understood but I never found myself getting hyped over actors and actresses. Things have definitely changed.

Actors – Chris Pine, Sebastian Stan, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Dong-yeon Kwak, Tom Hiddleston, Will Poulter, James Corden, Daniel Radcliffe, Zac Efron and Leonardo DiCaprio

Actresses – Isabelle Fuhrman, Brie Larson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Angelina Jolie, Kathryn Newton, Park Eun-bin, Kristen Stewart, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Blunt, Melissa McCarthy, Zendaya and Emma Watson

I’m sure I’ve missed tons that I love and I’ll kick myself later but there you go.

4. Most annoying actor/actress?

At one point I’d have said Owen Wilson ‘cos a lot of his films annoy me but he actually impressed me with his performance in ‘No Escape’ so I take it back. I used to love Johnny Depp but I can’t support him anymore, not after what he did. Same with Emma Roberts, I was a big fan of her but now I won’t support her anymore. Bella Thorne’s annoying too which is a shame ‘cos I loved her in ‘Shake It Up’ but there you go.

No Escape still.png

5. Best director?

Obvious one but Tim Burton. Or Hayao Miyazaki.

6. Favourite guilty pleasure film?

Mine’s probably ‘Annie’. I don’t care what anyone says, that film is amazing!

7. Favourite tear jerker?

I would’ve said ‘Room’ but I already picked that as my favourite so I’ll say ‘My Sister’s Keeper’. That film makes me weep buckets if I watch it alone. Oh my God or ‘Bridge to Terabithia’, I switch it off now when Lesley and Jesse say goodbye to each other for the last time and pretend the ending’s not real.

Bridge to Terabithia.jpg

8. Character from a movie that scared you the most?

I was trying to think of a childhood film character that scared me but couldn’t get one so I’ll have to settle on The Babadook from ‘The Babadook’. I absolutely love horror movies but that is the one horror I refuse to watch on my own.

9. Movie you love everyone hates?

I feel like I’m quite easily impressed by any movie to be honest. I loved the Ghostbusters remake with the all-female cast but then I never watched the original so I can’t compare.

Ghostbusters still.jpg

10. Move you hate everyone loves?

I could’ve said ‘Twilight’ but I feel like most people hate that film now. I can’t even say ‘Star Wars’ because I don’t really hate it because I can’t, I’ve never seen it. I’m not sure if it counts as an example but everyone hyped up ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’ and when I finally saw it I was extremely disappointed – not scary at all, just boring from start to finish.

11. Favourite movie duo?

I actually liked Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in ’21 Jump Street’ a lot more than I thought I would. I watched the sequel at university with an American girl named Sydney and enjoyed that too. They’re not really my type of movie but I enjoyed them and thought Jonah and Channing were hilarious.

12. Favourite animated movie?

I have a ton of different ones! To name a few I loved My Neighbour Totoro, Rugrats in Paris, Monsters Inc and Home.

My Neighbour Totoro Still.jpg

13. Actor/Actress crush?

Oh God, um, at the moment my top actor crush is probably Thomas Brodie-Sangster and my top actress crush is Zendaya.

14. Favourite movie villain?

I’m gonna be really cliché and say Loki. Before Ragnarok I wouldn’t have said him though ‘cos I didn’t really like the first film and although I was hyped during the second I didn’t really care about it that much afterwards. I did love the first Avengers though and after watching Ragnarok I’m quite hyped about Thor again.

Loki gif.gif

15. What movie surprised you the most?

Probably ‘Into the Woods’. To be honest I only saw it because Chris Pine was in it and I normally hate musicals where there’s it’s almost completely all singing. But I loved it, I went back to the cinema to see it about 6 times.

16. If you could only keep one movie what would it be?

Probably ‘Hairspray’ at the moment, I rewatched it a couple of weeks ago and got completely sucked into the story. I feel like I could watch that a lot of times without getting bored.

Hairspray still.jpg

17. Movie recommendation and for whom?

Right I’m gonna attempt to hit my friends with some film recs which will be difficult as I’ve either A. Seen the film with them or B. Don’t know what they’ve seen so here goes nothing.

Hirst – ‘The Greatest Showman’ because she’d absolutely love it.
Jess – ‘A Tale of Two Sisters’ because she’s got my DVD of it and I wanna talk to someone about it.
Becca – Becca’s the most difficult for God’s sakes. I’m gonna rec ‘Black Panther’ ‘cos I still don’t think she’s seen it yet and I bet she’d like it.

18. If you could go back in time and marry actor/actress from back when (now old) who would it be?

The only crushes who are now old that I can think of were child-actors at the time so um that would not be appropriate haha! Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio – not that he’s old! I’m just thinking like Titanic or Romeo and Juliet Leo.

19. One remake you wish had never been made?

Wow, not sure I have one because I haven’t really seen an awful lot of classic films and I don’t really mind remakes. Like I love the original Annie but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the remake because it was just different, I don’t see them as the same thing I just judge them as two different movies. Saying that I’m not sure I’d be happy if they remade the Harry Potter series which I bet they will do one day. Like it would be interesting to see if they added things that the original movies missed but I love my original cast and wouldn’t want them to change.

Harry Potter still

20. About to die but could only watch one more movie what would it be?

My original answer was ‘Bugsy Malone’ because I’d been wanting to re-watch it for a while but I finally did on Friday so now I wouldn’t choose that one. I think I’d pick ‘The Greatest Showman’ because I’ve only seen it once and I did absolutely love it.

21. Favourite movie genre/favourite movie from that genre?

Horror and probably ‘Orphan’. I just love a good plot twist and this was the first one that hit me at full force.

Orphan still

22. What’s the first movie you remember watching in theatres?

I remember being in the cinema as a kid but I can’t remember what I was watching, I do remember going to see Ice Age though. I actually took my nephew Tyler to his first cinema experience, we watched ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’.

So there we go, that was the Movie Tag! If you decide to do this tag leave me a comment ‘cos I’d love to read your answers!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child London Experience

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child 3.jpg

You have no idea how happy I am to finally be able to write a review of this show. I’m sure most fans appreciate this struggle but I bought mine and Becca’s tickets on 23rd January in 2017 and we finally went on Wednesday 7th March 2018. Let me tell you though, it was worth the wait. I wanna make it clear before I go in that I will do my best not to spoil any aspects of the show – I’ll talk about the plot a bit but I won’t ruin anything that makes the show amazing. Be prepared for a long post, here we go!

Because we’d had the tickets booked for so long we almost got to a point where we forgot we were going. We didn’t book our hotel and train tickets until less than a month before we left and I just kept forgetting that this was something I could look forward to. The year felt like a lifetime but when the day arrived it felt like I’d booked the tickets just yesterday. Me and Becca caught the train at 10:08AM and tried to pass the time on the two and a half hour train journey. Mostly by messing around on Snapchat, updating Becca’s Instagram story and then moaning when there wasn’t any data.

Me + Becca Snapchat 2

We got to London Euston, wolfed down a sandwich from Sainsbury’s and then headed to the theatre because me and Becca are absolute lovers of taking photos and we wanted as many outside the theatre as possible. It’s just as well we headed to the theatre early because I had it in my head that the show started at 2:30PM but once we’d finished taking our photos I saw that actually the show started at 2PM. It was an absolute panic but we grabbed the tickets and joined the back of the queue which had snaked around the entire theatre.

Me + Becca 4.jpg

Becca began to worry we wouldn’t get inside on time but luckily the queue moved quite fast. Security were strict and like I can understand why ‘cos it’s a popular show but they were extremely strict. Me and Becca had to bin about £5 worth of uneaten snacks between us because you can’t take in any outside food or drink. I mourned the loss of those snacks for the rest of the day. Security checking our bags was a bit awkward because we hadn’t had time to run to our hotel so all our personal stuff was in there and it was an intense bag search, they don’t just have a quick feel I mean they proper go through your things. Then you have a metal detector across your body and then you’re let in!

When we booked the tickets I was earning minimum wage and working one day a week so I had to borrow money off my Mom meaning I could only afford the £15 tickets right at the top. I’d been a bit worried about the view and when we sat down I was even more worried. Becca sat down first and I was like “How’s the view?” to which Becca replied “Awful, I can’t see anything.” Because we were so high up there was a railing to stop people falling which blocked the view a bit and then also the lighting blocked it too. Luckily when the show started we realised the view wasn’t too awful, it just meant doing a lot of head moving and not being able to see if anything happened in the bottom left corner of the stage. But to be honest I’d been waiting so long to see the show that I was just grateful to be inside the theatre at that point.

Inside the Theatre

I want to point out that I had read the book before going to the theatre and although I’d enjoyed some aspects (reading about Albus and Scorpius’ friendship being the best part) I really didn’t like the overall story. I feel like other than completely ruining some aspects there were also a couple of plot holes (which I’ll talk about later) so I just didn’t really like it. However, I was still super excited about seeing the show because I’d heard from my friend that it was absolutely amazing and I just generally love being at the theatre. So I went in with an open mind and pushed aside my negative thoughts about the book.

Guys, it was amazing. I’m so glad I went with Becca ‘cos I feel like we turned to each other every other minute like ‘Oh My God!’ and just generally freaked out about everything together. The cast were amazing and I honestly just loved every second. In the interval we had so much to talk about because it’s just so good that you want to discuss everything you just saw in detail. I remember moaning in the first interval about how before we knew it the whole thing would be over and I knew I’d be sad.

We watched the second half of Part One which was just as amazing and came out of the theatre at about 4:50PM. I’m so glad we decided to watch both parts on the same day because I wouldn’t have wanted to wait an entire day to see Part Two. I’m also actually really glad it’s in two parts instead of just one because it spreads the magic out for longer.

Because Part One had finished a bit earlier than we’d originally thought it would we decided to head to our hotel to check-in which was about twenty minutes away by tube to the theatre. It wasn’t the greatest hotel we’d ever stayed in but it also wasn’t the worst. My only complaint would be that we booked a twin room but for some reason ended up in a double room and then it was boiling hot in there for most of the night. But it didn’t matter because we were only there a few minutes before heading back to the theatre.

We grabbed dinner at a fast food place right across the street. We picked it for its convenience but unfortunately although the place even sold some food specifically for dogs it had little to no vegetarian options so Becca ended up ordering two portions of fries for her dinner. I had a chicken burger which was tasty but not very big. The fries portions were massive though and their milkshakes were good. Still quite pricey but at least it was close to the theatre.

Food

We took more photos outside the theatre in the evening because we’re absolute trash but these didn’t come out quite as well since it started to get dark. We joined the back of the queue which again had snaked around the theatre but went quickly again and we’d also dumped our main bags in the room so now we only had handbags which meant we got through quicker this time.

Dark Theatre

Once inside I knew it’d be a mistake but since we were earlier we decided to take a look at the merchandise. I had the quickest glance and decided to buy a t-shirt with the show name on it since I was enjoying it so much. Becca said she wasn’t gonna get anything so I queued up and bought it for £19.99 – by the time I’d got back she decided she needed to buy a program so she got one for £12. It was really pretty so we spent time looking through that before Part Two began. We were so far back that we didn’t really know what people’s faces looked like so actually getting to see them up close in the book was interesting. And then Part Two began!

It was just as amazing as Part One but also quite sad because we knew we were nearing the end and that tickets are almost completely sold out until next year. Everything about it was just brilliantly done and by the end we knew we needed to see it again at some point. The moment the next batch of tickets is announced we are getting some more. I remember getting stressed when I bought them last year because I was in an online queue for forty-five minutes but according to some other fans that’s absolutely nothing compared to how long they waited. I also heard horror stories of people getting to the front of the queue and getting kicked out but luckily that didn’t happen to me. I will fight people for tickets next year, trust me.

I wanna give another shout-out to the cast because honestly they were amazing, so full of energy and played their parts absolutely amazingly. My favourite had to be Scorpius, Becca genuinely cried with laughter several times and honestly he was just amazing. All the cast were though, they were honestly amazing.

Right, I’m about to talk about the plot ‘cos I assume that even if you haven’t seen the play you’ve probably read the book. However if you don’t want to read my spoilers about the plot, skip past and I’ll put a ‘Spoilers End Here’ line in bold so you’ll know it’s safe again!

First of all, I do not for one second believe that Harry James Potter would ever tell his son that he wished he wasn’t his. I don’t care how angry he was he just wouldn’t say it. After everything he went through as a kid he wouldn’t suddenly turn around and be a complete dick. Even Draco was running around like “My son! Clear his name! Won’t someone please think of my son!?” Also Harry literally stalking his son to make sure he couldn’t see his only friend was actually pretty abusive like really?

Secondly, the whole Delphi plot confuses me a bit because like other than the fact that Voldemort and Bellatrix having a kid is just absolutely ridiculous how on earth could Draco not have known about her if she was born in the Malfoy Manor? Did he not notice that Bellatrix was pregnant? I understand he was probably at school but nine months is a long time and he would’ve gone back home at some point and surely seen her? Also, when would she even have had the time to like be pregnant and give birth? Surely there was a lot going on at the time and she wouldn’t have- Whatever, I’m not getting into this.

Thirdly, do not even sit there and tell me that Cedric Diggory would’ve become a death eater under any circumstances. He got humiliated in a bloody competition and became a death eater? You really expect me to believe that? You can honestly piss off.

And now onto my fourth and final point. Scorpius and Albus are 100% a little bit in love with each other, they can push this whole ‘oh Scorpius fancies Rose and Albus fancied Delphi’ until the cows come home but I know the truth. Usually I’m the person that’s like “Do we need romance? Can’t we just let people be friends, not everything has to be about romance” but this is my one exception. I ship it so hard and I don’t care what anyone says I 100% believe they’re gay.

SPOILERS END HERE.

Basically, I am going to see this show again. I don’t care if I have to wait another full year, I am going again. Me and Becca wanted to bring Jess and Hirst with us but they’re not into Harry Potter as much as us so we’ll see. We’re also hoping to get slightly more expensive tickets next time so we could hopefully get a better view. But overall I wouldn’t change anything about our first time seeing the show. I was worried we’d be sat by annoying people who went on their phones or talked the whole time but we were very lucky. I think because everyone’s waited so long to see the show they do actually have some respect and put their phones away and shut up to watch it. I wish people were like that at every show!

The next day Becca came up with the idea of visiting Platform 9 ¾ at Kings Cross Station to get our photo taken again. We did originally go with Jess and Hirst back in April a couple of years ago and we each got an individual photo then a photo of us all killing Becca since the woman taking the photo ‘didn’t like Slytherins’ apparently.

Me and my friends are quite sad and we all have our own houses and we actually each have matching merchandise that’s in our own house. Becca is Slytherin, Jess is Gryffindor, Hirst is Ravenclaw and I’m a Hufflepuff. But as me and Becca already had photos with our house scarves on we decided to go for different ones. She chose Ravenclaw and I chose Slytherin and we each got our individual photos before taking a double one. We were asked if we wanted friendly or duel to which Becca said “Duel!” so the man told us how to pose. The moment Becca put her arm above her head the people in the queue started cheering for some reason and it was super embarrassing but I’m so happy with how the photo turned out.

We headed into the shop and that was our downfall to be honest, it’s even bigger than when we originally went in April and oh dear. To be fair if I’d really caved in I could’ve spent more but in the end I bought the professional photo of me and Becca, a Hufflepuff umbrella, a Hufflepuff pen and some postcards for my scrapbook. Becca bought the professional photo and a stuffed Hedwig. In just 24 hours I’d managed to spend £50 on Harry Potter merchandise.

We got breakfast and we really wanted to do more Harry Potter related things (because it had reached that point where we’d just accepted our nerdiness) but we couldn’t find anything so we decided to go sight-seeing. We’d never been to Buckingham Palace together so off we went. Becca’s Mom loves the Royal Family so Becca knew a surprising number of facts about Buckingham Palace, it was actually quite funny she was like my own personal tour guide.

After that we had to accept the trip was over and we caught the train back to Telford. You know when you get post-concert depression? I think I’ve got post-Harry Potter depression because it was honestly amazing and I’m just so sad it’s over. I came back to work and within minutes of going through my emails I was in a bad mood and just wanted to be back at the show. Me and Becca are going to make sure we have tickets for next year, it was that good! If you get the opportunity to see the show then I really recommend it. I’ve seen almost every show running in the West End and let me tell you, this is the best one I’ve ever seen.

I just beg that no one turns this into a movie. Put the stage version on DVD and I’ll be happy but please don’t turn it into a movie. The storyline is awful but seeing it on stage redeems it whereas I think a movie would just ruin it. There’s something about the theatre having limited resources compared to movies that makes it even more magical.

There we go, I wrote about this play in way more detail than anyone ever asked for. If you’ve seen the show then let me know what you thought in the comments, if you’re going to see it then let me know in the comments, just please talk to me! Thanks for reading.
